As my clients are large corporates I discovered early on that compatible did not mean the same. As I prepare complex documents and sometimes Excel models it is far better to have the latest MS Office - then I know everything will work. Numbers and Pages are not the gold standard in this space.

Once in a while I may want to run an MS only piece of software as well. So handy to have it available.

 

Acer make pretty good machines tbh, no issues with the ones I have, and ive had a netbook and my packard bell lappy runs great with no stability issues damn those acer people

As for HP being stable and reliable.... nah, not really, dell seem to have a good reputation but HP.... your joking right?

My home built (very quiet ) pc only has one issue that I have to fix, and thats a known firmware upgrade that needs doing to fix the bsod crash, its common with the latest ssd drives (ocz) but ive got to mess around a little as you cannot upgrade the main drive (i seem to be one of the unlucky 1% that suffer this issue....)

PS, your av issue is long out of date, Norton is no longer a bloaty system eater, they fixed that a few years back

PPS, never had any issues with asus mobo's either in a machine, seem to keep on going no matter what's chucked at them

 

my Mac Pro is being used by the g/f today - she's running Parallels with a Vista 32bit VM and, inside that, VPN remoting into an XP VM hosted on an XP desktop at her office.

you can't get away from MS, lol

 

I've few problems with friend PC,which he build and he get everytime BSOD after restart and problem has been he uninstall AVG without the AVG utility and this cause BSOD,sometimes BSOD cause just minor changes to some SW/HW,if you don't know what you are doing don't do,simple is that.

Kernel panic,depends what are you doing,if you are just user,which don't understand Terminal and Sudo commands,you should don't have problems with Kernel panic.Kernel panic is common on Mac like BSOD on PC


On my own Hackintosh i've get two times Kernel panics after overclocking my old CPU AMD X4(my RAM has been slow ) and later after i change RAM for slower type,just for test.

Yes too,but is common on Mac too,just use your browser correctly.

I said before i've before 2 times and never ever after.

Kernel panic can be resolved too on Mac or Hackintosh,on Hackintosh is really easy,if you are using something which is not supported by distro(Motherboard,Ram,GPU or HDD) etc.,you are get Kernel Panic.

given the OS is mated to the hardware, this isn't common... at least it shouldn't be. in my experience I've got KPs on hackintosh, but not real mac hardware. my own experience, of course.

 

I have had four or five kernel panics in four years. Half of them were trying to use a known incompatible piece of hardware when SL first came out. The others were unknown and the mac recovered perfectly.
