When I had my ex-wrx standard 260bhp b4 i tuned it a V6 vectra didn't even see me dissappearing until he was so small on my rear view mirror!.You must be really stupid to go and spend 30k on a car company taxi looking vectra!
With 12K i got a monster supra! (Ex monster wrx owner)

Revs Magazine (I can get the issue No. if you want) did a scooby V Cossie feature using 5 cars from each side (standard to mega Tuned) They had three tests, dyno, straight line and twisties and the scoobies won. Interesting article.

still think the escorts are not worth the money!!!
oh and why do all escort cossie owners say there cars are over 400bhp!!!
look in fast ford ,shoot out
expected bhp-400
actual bhp-270
owners comment-must be a weak actuator!!!,just re-built it last week!!!
there are SOME big power ones out therebut there not all 400bhp!!!

The Scoobs generally cleaned up to 100mph. It was decided that the big power Cossies would have it won over the ton.
Both are very good cars. When I was younger I wanted a Saff Cossie. Then I saw the Imp and decided that was for me.
Every enthusiasts car is the best. Nova boys will love their Nova's regardless of your like or disliking of them.
And to answer the original question, which is best.. The Scoob. Simple really.

"How I Got My Name"
REVS June 2000 Scoobs Vs Cossies
Cat 1 - Standard (JamesH as I was then!) vs Escort Cos
Cat 2 - Light mods ('zhorst, filter type thing) (Stef - before mega-mods) vs 4x4 Saff
Cat 3 - Bit more on the Cossie (4x4 Saff) vs STi (CraigH's)
Cat 4 - Mega Cos 4x4 RS500 Shell Vs 22B (someone also called Stef)
Essentially the scoobs won in Cat1, 2, 3 & 4
Vs the standard, my wagon was faster 0-60, 1/4 and top speed. Lost out (or equal?) in the handling test & seriously down in the BHP/Torque stakes - but 3/5...
Cat 2 Cos failed mechanically & also the beastie Cat 4 cos had it's engine expire
Rainbird stuck the articles in the Norfolk RS Owner's site somewhere (if someone has the url).
Made some good friends from that couple of days

Yo Puff, how come your the only one not smiling on page 28?
Got the magazine from out the toilet cabinet, it's been dump material for the last two years We'll start the bidding at a tenner!
Seriously though, it was Revs, Issue 48 July 2000. The front page has a picture of a Nitrous VTS with the worst alloys I have ever seen on it!
Some quotes from the verdict part of the article:
"The final result is a crushing 7:4 victory for the Impreza boys. In the last two rounds they have consistently slaughtered the Cossie challengers on the track."
"No matter how hard the Cossie boys launched their cars they could never achieve the pick up of the Scooby's."
"Imprezas kick Cossies arese. Mostly..."
Good article well worth a read.

I've been reading through the last few posts on this thread and listening to the opinions it's been quite amusing! Whatever happened to Mr Vectra? Did he ever come back for more verbal punishment? Now whenever I see a Vectra on the road I have to pass a laught at their expense. OK looking, poor company car's equivalent to a Beemer yes - but supercar - please!!!
I've got a Skyline and straight line power not much can touch them but hats off to you scooby guys - I've always wanted one just for the English roads - how far can you go in this country without hitting a roundabout or a tight bend?
If anyone wants to swap for a day - let me know!
Andrew
PS. Cossies - yeah they look the D's Bs and I imagine they drive well too - another of my personal favorites.

Dilema time for me right now. I am pondering going either Impreza Turbo or Escort Cosworth.
I used to own a 2wd Saphire cossie with 350BHP. I loved it to bits, used it on track every months and ran it daily, took it up to 99,000 genuine miles on the same engine. Interior had the crappy saphire dash but the seats, oh boy were they fantastic. Leather recaro's. The brakes were fabulous too with 4pots up front as standard. I really missed that car when i got my scoob company car. It cost me a mint to keep on the road though, but that was down to me doing lots of track days and being meticulous, if something wasnt 100% right it got sorted out.
I currently run my Impreza Sport, fantastic chassis, for a car with 115BHP its amazingly quick cross country. This shows the real strength of the Subaru over everything else out there. The great thing about the subaru is the low centre of gravity due to its boxer alloy engine and longetudinal box. The escort cossie cant match that because of its design.
The escort cossie does have some major plus points such as seats, build quality and ease of tuning. You can upgrade to 350BHP for £500 if you know the right people. Personally i think they look amazing as a road car and think the 22B is the only Impreza that can give the same presence.
If you want to talk performance then really neither car is that special. For that you need something like a lightweight 2 seater like my westfield was. That used an Escort Cosworth engine giving a 480BHP/tonne package. 0-60 in 3.2, 0-100 in 7.5 and 0-153 in 17.5. Thats what fast is for a road car that can go round corners too.
As to rallying, i help run an escort cosworth GroupA forest rally car. The Escort Cosowrth is unbeatable as an afordable GroupA car for clubmen. Spares are plentiful and parts prices are reasonable. Running a subaru of the same spec would be Imposible for us, it would simply cost too much. We seem to do quite well against the Subaru's in the forest's, the only ones that beat us are ex prodrive cars, and lets face it, they should at 10 times the cost. A GroupA subaru is a faster car than a groupA Escort Cossie because of it's inherent design, it's pretty damn close though and there arent that many proper GroupA Impreza's out there really, Escorts tend to rule in the UK on the whole.
Both are fantastic pieces of kit, they are very diferent though. I love them both.
P.S. Before i bought my Sport, i test drove a vectra SRi for 2 days. I have to say i was surprised, it was bloody fast cross country and had lots of toys. I still bought the scoob though!

You lot need to do that again.
And pick some of the better cossie's
Bondy, 330, 2wd will hammer any 330bhp scoob.
Karl Norris, 270 bhp 4door, 13.01 @ 111 at santapod, just because of a mag shoot out it don't mean its fact, I mean CraigH hammered most on track at National Day including the 500bhp boys..
or this
http://www.goorey.com/subaru/cat4-c.JPG
1/4 in 11.8 360 bhp @ 118
and craigH 360 bhp 1/4 in 12.4 both at the pod @ 113
All the above are facts too

Puff - Two things about that article confused me:
Your car's 1/4 miles was 15.04 seconds at 92mph which means it would probably take you till about 17 seconds to crack the hundred! Isn't that worryingly slow for a scooby?
Conversly the impreza with reg S7EFI did the 1/4 mile in 13.34 seconds at 99.8mph which means the 100 in about 13.5 which seems bloody quick for a UK with with only a stainless steel exhaust and K&N filter! Bear in mind a number of postings ago it was argued that it needs a lot of modification to get a UK scooby over the 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds.
Can you shed any light seen as you were there?

I'm glad you stand corrected Steve, because I'll take issue with anyone who accuses me of bias or being a liar (you know who you are)
Im not getting into the subject of scoobies v cossies, I've respect for both motors.
