I hear what you're saying Moley, and i am aware of why car insurance costs have risen so steeply. One of my main points was why should i or anyone decent and honest have to subsidise the indecent and dishonest who do make false claims? I will never be accepting of car insurance costs unless i myself see them as fair, reasonable and proportionate.

To you. The problem is you share the road with 30 million other driver's.
The insurance premium is not just based on 'you', it has to consider hundreds of factors.
Ofcourse a performance car is going to cost more to insure. You can drive faster in one than the average ford focus which means there is more of chance of you stuffing it into a hedge, regardless of experience. That's a fact.
Then, you have to understand that a performance motor is more desireable than the average ford focus, so more likely to get nicked, or vandalised through jelousy.

And then you have to consider that it is a flaming Impreza turbo! Not the best car to have if you want cheap insurance.

End of the day, nobody forces you to drive or to own an Impreza. It is a choice.

The problem is if you nudge someones bumper in traffic your insurers are possibly looking at a £20k claim (assuming the car has 4 occupants).

People try to claim for everything.
We had one claim a while ago where a Subaru drove past a cyclist, and the loud exhaust scared them, making them fall off.... and they claimed £3k for that!!! (no contact was even made, they just fell off 'in shock')

My daughter's renewal for her Mini 1.4 came through from Direct Line - £1900+. She only passed her test a year ago, but this is more than last year even though she now has a year's experience and a year's no claims. We tried comparethemarket and got 5 quotes around the £900 mark, so Direct Line won't be getting the business.

Commercial vehicle prices are getting stupid.
There are a massive amount of claims on vans, but even then i can't justify why they are so high.

What car do you have and how old are you?
Also, what the **** do you do for a living???

That's like £800 a month, which is more or less my mortgage payment!
23 now, but when i was paying such a silly amount i had just turned 20 and only had 1 yrs no claim bonus. Car is a 2003 wrx sti type uk with a tracker too, probably doesnt help living in a shi*e part of london.

As for what i do for a living, well, lets just say i had nothing else to spend the money on

The FSA are there to make sure insurers aren't doing anything wrong, so the insurers ARE regulated.

The reason for increased prices is due to increased pay outs. When people stop for dodgy injury claims prices WILL come down.
In 2010 there were 400,000 whiplash claims (whiplash only, ignoring other injuries) and the average payout was £5k including legal fees, so thats £2bn insurers paid out - 20% of your premium.

Insurance companies are a business, not a charity. If they know they are going to have to payout higher costs then they have to take more in premiums to cover themselves.

Insurers don't tend to make money from the premiums you pay them, they normally pay out more than they take. They make their money by investing the money you pay them.

i can i also say being a man who work in claims is that all these robbing greedy hire companys are not helping i.e i paid a claim for 800 pound the other day and there was a 2000 injury claim and over 3 grand of hire becuase the third party could not make do with a small free car from the garage and had to have liek fo like for like car becuase he need it like f%%k he needed it it the same with every claim i deal with when peopel start seing that then and stop blagging it there insurances will go down

p.s moley keep my renewal nice dude its must be due soon

I've just gone back to A Plan, 2 cars covered for £749. Impreza WRX 312 bhp with 12 "mods" including brakes suspension etc together with wife's Zafira.
My current insurer, Admiral, wanted £689, however they now limit each policy to 6 mods. Also mods are not replaced on the policy in the event of a claim so your car will only returned to standard spec.
The extra £60 is a no brainer in my mind...

Look at the thread I have started in the insurance section for some encouragement on this matter.
