[QUOTE=Loco;9981677]I am 25, 5 years NCB, my WR1 (315bhp) is £1045 to insure with Admiral. although, got plenty of quotes around the £2.5k-3k mark at first, which nearly put me off buying one!

some tips:
- I have always been with admiral or bell. they are part of the same company, and seem to do well for younger drivers (although are crap if you have mods).
- Do you have access to another car? I am required to drive another car while at work from time to time so I tick this box on the insurance application form.
- Add parents etc. on to insurance as named drivers. I have a friend that adds his girlfriend, which takes his premium down, however, beware that female insurance is rising this year to match the same price as males.
- Get a garage. Sometimes it works out MUCH cheaper to rent a garage yearly than to pay the extra on a premium to keep the car on a drive or street.[/QUOTE

Have you tried A-Plan? They are very competetive with Subaru quotes including mods!

I'm 19, been trying to get a quote on a 2006 R-Sport.. not happening. No where will do it, so now I'm gonna have to wait until I'm 20 (3 months..) it's not a massive deal but really irritating.

Just worried that when I'm 20.. the prices will go up or people won't insure me. I did a 'fantasy quote' as if it was my birthday that day for an estimate and it came at about 2k from Admiral.. I can deal with that.. I just hope it stays that way when it comes to purchasing.

Heck, at least I can sit in it I guess.

Who honestly pay £9000 for one years worth of insurance?
I thought £2k for an sti 4 back when I 21 (2003) was enough. It dropped to £2000 at 22, £1600 at 23 and then it was around £850 when I was 24 on a UK turbo.

Moley quoted me £650 on another UK turbo earler this year, which wasn't bad.

I had a look at them. problem for me is its my first year of ownership of a scooby. I was told by a-plan to come back next year after proving I am able to own a quick car with out stuffing it in (fingers crossed )

Yep, over 9k. Bought the car without realising just how much i'd be paying. Foolish really but i would have only spent the money on junk i didnt really need. Plus, i dont think i'd have the money to buy the car now so i'm fairly glad i stuck with it

I was told the same...Phone next year
Told them to ring my traders policy up , over the last year me and my missis have had 2 evo's , m3csl , golf r32
But hey I suppose the wr1 is the fastest / most stolen/ most expensive car on the planet

I've just got me and my missis insured for £720 and she's the main driver
Maybe next year when we have 'proved' we can drive it may be cheaper

well i feel sorry for anyone that has a car now as even if your car is taxed and not driven it has to be insured unless it is stated as sorn.so you cannot even have a taxed car to work on the road that is not driven unless it is insured or sorned thiefing b@st@rds.

odd, because a CAT2, as you clearly state, is only the immobiliser. so by the sounds of it, the insurance company's main concern is theft. nothing to do with if it is broken in to, or vandalized, etc. very strange request!! especially considering having the tracker activated made very little difference at all to my quote

You'll find thats the goverment, not the insurers, who bought that rule in.

It's supposed to reduce the amount of un-insured cars on the road.

Enless you get hit by one.... then it becomes a BIG problem.

So let me get this right.... in your ideal world the insurers would all go bust, hence everyone would be un-insured.
So you're driving along and get him by someone, causing damage to your car.... you'd just be happy to shake hands and pay to fix your car yourself?

Everyone looks at insurance as a rip off.... untill they need to use it.
There IS a reason premiums are going up you know

I have no idea how the youngsters do it these days. I paid £500 when i was 17 on a Nova Sport.

But 17/18 year olds are such bad risks that insurers just don't want to insure them, only leaving the very expensive ones to quote.

In English, or with some punctuation?

Young people pay a higher premium, as they are deemed a higher risk - fact of life.

Shouldn't matter whether male or female, and as a slight aside, it's also why it's a good thing that women can no longer get reduced premiums simply for having split *****. Women are no higher or lower a risk than men, I spend more than enough time on the road to know that.

My insurance stayed the same this year, I guess it helps that I've owned my car a while and have been with the same insurer for 5 of the 6 years I've owned it.

Yup the last time I claimed on my insurance was back in 1997, thats when I was hit by an uninsured driver who ran a red light in my new (6 month old) 306 GTI-6 which I had for a mere 2.5 hours so waved goodbye to my (16k's worth) of GTI for a few months whilst it was "repaired"
3 years later.... (note I was paying more now even though I had protected no claims due to the claim of over 7k on the car, hit by a 300 quid ford escort van ) and it wasnt until then that I was fully paid out from the MIB for the full ammount and injuries (yup I was injured, very bad whiplash as it was a side impact pushing the car left a fair bit), sold that car less than 9 months later, it wasnt the same after that accident...
Though being an old fart I shouldnt be getting quotes of 18k on a 55 plate astra 120 diesel

Tony

PS direct line never reimbursed me the extra I had to pay due to to having to claim on my insurance even though they were eventually paid back by the MIB

I look at uk motor insurance as a huge rip off whether i need to claim several times a year or never. What they charge is grossly disproportionate. That's the word i was after, what UK motor insurers charge is disproportionate. As for the 2+ million uninsured, you are suggesting i foot the cost for them also? Are they my problem, i re-ask? I think definitely not!

Yes a 50 quid banger being crushed, 200 quid fine and some points is a lot cheaper than 1k car insurance!

It once was a great idea, a fair, reasonable and proportionate one too. I just feel that car insurance prices are excessively high, and there should be some form of Government body which forces them to lower their prices to more reasonable and generally acceptable levels :-) Just like they did to the banks and mobile phone companies. Us working people will all benefit then! :-)

GREGGYG - i'm sorry, but it seems you don't understand how insurance works.

The FSA are there to make sure insurers aren't doing anything wrong, so the insurers ARE regulated.

The reason for increased prices is due to increased pay outs. When people stop for dodgy injury claims prices WILL come down.
In 2010 there were 400,000 whiplash claims (whiplash only, ignoring other injuries) and the average payout was £5k including legal fees, so thats £2bn insurers paid out - 20% of your premium.

Insurance companies are a business, not a charity. If they know they are going to have to payout higher costs then they have to take more in premiums to cover themselves.

Insurers don't tend to make money from the premiums you pay them, they normally pay out more than they take. They make their money by investing the money you pay them.

What car do you have and how old are you?
Also, what the **** do you do for a living???

That's like £800 a month, which is more or less my mortgage payment!

I thought that plan had been shelved?
Can't anything that actually says that this is now in place?
