i was just kidding with you mate regarding the fast in the straight line just to get a bit of banter out of you. sorry did not mean to offend you.

now back to the subject :P

your car was definitely fast. no doubt about it mate, even more impressed to know that it is only 1600cc.

however it is not a race, and if a car catches up with you and stays with you for few laps it could only be quicker. makes sense ?. i have noticed that you were braking a lot earlier as you highlighted and that is why i was frustrated following you. also you can't expect me to drive as fast as i could following you through the corners !! what would have happend if you spun or something. i was driving well with in the limits of cars ability.

at the last session i caught up with you but i started getting fuel surge so i had to abort it would have been fun other wise.

don't get me wrong i really enjoyed it, there was very few cars that i enjoyed having a good bit of fun with. your was difinitley one of them.

for anyone reading the above track days are not a race so don't mix things up that was just a bit of fun

sam thats straight up and good of you ( ill remove all cheeky comments of the rs board in a second ) trying to get the banter going you cheeky man! hahah yeah i understand now. I suppose it was the case of "me versus the world" that made me go... darn it they are claiming i wasnt quick! etc

Yeah, i was braking late thru the complex and so on but on the route to the hair pin i wasnt being really late as its the first time i have trully pushed my new four pots and was never braking as late as it was possible to, i was kinda trying to get organised to get out of the hairpin as apposed to driving up to it ramming on the brakes and then turning into it which is what i should have done!

As mentioned it was not a race and more a case of comparing vehicles and enjoying the day! I tended to try and catch people up or to try and pull away as a kinda encouragement to drive better or a gauge etc.

I ran a 1.03.42 which was very happy with but as mentioned before this was a reference for me so that when i do more mods, i can see if they are working by taking a time check. ps did u catch a lap time ?

They were not timed in the fashion of oh lord i must now beat that and faster and faster, but just a gauge of what line works best.

as often if u feel u are going faster more intense, you are actually going slower!

ps the 1600 cc bottom end with 140,000 miles on it and 11 years old hahah. How does it keep going?!?!?! i DUNNO!

Dougie,
no offence taken here, you say Sam's car is faster round the bends,as it should be on slicks and thats what people (inc. me) want to know .there is not really much point in going head to head with Sam as i know from Crail track that his car can easily out-drag me on the straights.my car has 218bhp so i know my place is behind the higher power cars such as the P1's,Evos etc.you can't beat big horse power up a straight unless you're in a grey RST,that f***er is fast and not just on the straights, just glad i was never out at the same time as him otherwise i could have been

Ian,
during the day i would do 5 hard laps,1 cool down then in the pits for a while, that last session the car had only been in the pits for 5-10 mins so i think i cooked the fluid.those EBC red pads are really good, but do wear quick.out of a total of 30 laps it was only the last few, that the pedal felt bad,but i am sure it's fluid realated.i did a track day last year at K/hill and the standard pads felt bad after about 4 laps.

JohnS,
thanks again for a great day.a track evening or three would be cool .K/hill run top marques days like this but are very expensive.last year i went once and i'm sure it was £35 for 4 hrs.,have been told this year it's £50 for 2 but have to admit that the new track changes at K/hill are a big improvement.

I was just thinking there. ( suprise! )

What it must be like to be on the track by yourself. Just you and say a stop watch or something. I bet it would be a totally different experience. Total concentration with your own driving, not worrying about leaving a gap for ettiquete etc.

Has anyone ever done that before?

or going out with an instructor and just the track? I think that would be something else.

Maybe ill sign up for a course down there one day and go out with an instructor.

TFyus,
just call it as i saw it.last year i put my mk2 golf 130bhp@wheels round K/hill and held off a cossie for 4 laps before he past me on the pit straight.at the end of the session he came over and complimented me on the car which i greatly appreciated.if a car is going well, regardless of make it deserves a mention, especially when it's a old grey shed .you may have guessed that i am all for other makes on these days.

"you can't beat big horse power up a straight unless you're in a grey RST"

i think you have got it wrong mate the grey RST has got more power than all of us!!! steven said he has 195 at the wheels i have only got 190 @the wheel and i would guess you would have around 150 if that. there is absolutly no way he could hold his ground against me in the staight if he was only running 200bhp @ flywheel.

this actually reverses the story as i have caught up with a car that is more powerful than mine

sam,

195 at the wheels on my rsturbo equates to 220 at the flywheel in the real world. No over inflated figures for my car.

up the straight u caught me up ? im sure

u know yourself that three corners and the little straight at the back, behind a slowly driven elise can lose you ten seconds a lap

....making it very easy to catch up

thats the story im sticking too hahah

anyhows are u not around 300 bhp? with 4x4? unless im mistaken and race slicks?

here we go hahaha

Its power at the wheels to weight ratio that counts chaps. With equal power at the flywheel the 2wd car with the same weight will always win (in a straight line ) unless traction is an issue.

i only have 280 . so are you trying to say it was my driving ablility nogotiating traffic ? you are making me blush, thank you.

i did overtake you but it was not easy. not 220bhp car easy. i was overtaking elises and standard UK cars like they really did not exist easy ask Dougie. .
how much does you car wiegh ?

sam, ive been kinda warned off getting ivolved in whos car is fastest on the track. But id just mention this. No way your car overtook mine up the pit straight due to your power. FACT.

Im sure it could negotiate the bends quicker im sure you could probably brake later and driver better perhaps. But no chance it overtook my car up the straight due to power.

If the evo 6 in full slicks struggled and the std evo 6 had no chance and neither did any of the p1's or the 22b, wonder how you think yours did?

But thats a power statement, not a driver skill statement and not something i should be entirely proud of.

I know the time i let you passed. During my slower laps i was holding you up and knew that you were in a similar situation that i had been in with the evo 6, i couldnt over take it up the straight but i knew i was posting faster lap times at that point. So when i knew i was holding u up a bit i let u through up the straight as i knew u didnt have enough power to do it. I pulled to the right and indicated over.

...but anyway

someone asked the weight of my car. its 910 kilos with no fuel and no passengers.

so power to weight at the wheels its 195/910 * 1000 = 214 at the wheels per ton. Traction was a problem coming out of every corner. 3rd gear wheelspin with the slicks on. hmm

It has a bit of lag tho having such a big turbo.

anyhows i reckon i have everything to be proud of, having built my engine done all the brake conversions suspension mods, the lot, the home made chargecooler everything. The only thing we ( my fiances father and i ) didnt do was set the car up and thats where AVA come in.

steven.
i know you let me through and i appreciate this. that why i said thank you in the first post. you have got a great car and you should be proud of it. subarus weigh about 1260kg so you will find that we are running very similar power per weight ratio. no wonder standard cars were no match for you.

i have really enjoyed the banter so i hope you were not offended by any of my chat.

Roll on the next track day hopefully i will overtake you on the straight then . i am no where near the real capability if the car yet, shame about my driving.

sam you didnt offend me... well not after what u just said!

Its just that i was wondering if people were gonna feel hard done by being passed/held off by an older cheaper car. I thought u were one of them! but now i know your just one of the banter lads like me you shuld see me on the rsowners site im a cheeky begger!

i dont think ill be around for the next track day as im away bye bye for a while... like a long while...

but ill be at the nurburghring this april with the boys! not driving my own car mind..sob sob...

as for you passing me up the straight... haha... NEVER

wait till i get the two litre 16v with 260 at the wheels...not 195

let the banter roll

Cheers

Yeah im well proud of the car. Thanks for the compliments!

chicken. you big wimp where are you going. you don't want to be over taken again

260bhp @ the wheels is that on the same car or are you getting a new one ?

i am only getting started with my car.

on the wanted list
water injection
front mounted intercooler
2.2 stroker kit
30 psi full boost

i think that will overtake you on the striaghts and the bendy bits

sam im ofski around the world for a bit

water injection is rubbish and ill go toe to toe with anyone who says otherwise ( serious but smiling )

front mounted intercooler sounds good, make sure its an efficient core, thats what to do, if u get it good enough u dont need water injection.

2.2 stroker kit.... does that really benefit the car? im sure it could do, but lowering the compression would be the way to go infact very much lowered if u are to succesfully run and make use of 30psi.

30 psi full boost? can you car produce enough fuel for that or would it have to have 8 injectors?

and then ill still maul u with 300 at the wheels per tonne hahaha

only teasing i cannot afford that engine and im going away before any of that is to be done. It would be in the same car yes.

round the twisty bits? i was just getting warmed up and i could still hold u off hahaha

here we go!

LOL!

I think it would be very interesting to leave Sam and Steven in the same room for more than a few seconds with the banter that's gone on so far

All I'll say is that both cars were impressive around the track, and we were there to have fun, and not find out who was the fastest etc.

On a sad note, Knockhill have informed me that someone went away with one of their crash helmets Can all those who attended please check their cars, and ask any friends they took along if they have this helmet. They can't understand why anyone would want to steal a helmet that has been worn by hundreds of people before, and is covered in knockhill stickers either, but unless we find it, they are going to ask me to pay for the cost of a new one

John, that totally sucks re: stolen helmet. When dumped aka stage1 or martin, ran a track day the buggers stole three!

I can 100% guarantee that it wasnt us lot as we brought two helmets for the car and the passenger always used the spare one in my car.

Ill mention it to everyone i know to make sure they dont know anything about it. I agree, why would u want a sweaty stinky helmet worn by many many ppl??!?!?!

madness. Especially considering the quality/cost of the vehicles there!

hope someone returns it

as for sam and i in a room, i bet there would be quite a bit of cheeky banter going on

like when i met dougie from this site at crail, he said his car was good for 170, so i nudged him and said what bhp?

it was very amusing

ps dougs cars lovely

I'm sure its not intentional either, and its probably someone we don't know who decided to get some passenger laps, and tkae home a nice reminder of their great day out. I've sent an e-mail to all the participants asking them to check their cars (2 seaters excluded for obvious reasons ), and with their friends etc.

Sam/Steven - why don't you both go to Crail for a head to head up the 1/4 mile, and then around the driftin oval. I'm sure a few of us could give style marks out of 10 for the drifting.

Better still, agree to take each other out for pax laps at the next event, so you can appreciate the finer points of each others cars

john,

The passenger lap swapping would be a really good idea. And id be well up for that. though i have to admit that i wont be on the track for a while now as im saving to go away!

The 1/4 mile is a tad unfair as my rst has a wee problem with traction. Coming out of every bend at knockhill it was burning out 2nd at the hair pin and 3rd at the rest. so a standing start race isnt quite what it was built for!!!

though sam might be right up for it to allow him to assume an advantage and easy win cheat! hahaha

Though i would be happy to launch his scooby at crail and see who could get the best time!

Sam, see if u can beat my time, next time u are on. Im pretty sure its easily beaten but it would be a gauge for an uncomprimised lap. Have it done from the sidelines as not to break the rules of the day.

.... who ever thought of a subaru finding it hard to beat an rst hehehehe

cheeky!

Unhappy

John,

That's bad news about the helmet.

I used one for a couple of passenger laps, but I know for sure that I returned it.

Hope it turns up.

How much is a helmet anyway?
If you're charged for a replacement, I'd be happy to help out by chippng in a little (say a tenner? - between a number of us we could pay for it) so you're not bearing the cost all by yourself.

Let me know.

Thanks for the offers of money guys, but I'd prefer to leave it for a couple of weeks to see if it turns up. I am fairly certain they use only the cheap £40 helmets.

If I do have to pay, then I can hopefully get them to add the cost of the replacement onto our next event, so that the cost will be "invisible" to everyone.

JohnS, sorry to hear about a missing helmet, let us know if it reappears. We took our own two up and came back with the same two.

Steven, very impressed with the RST, much quicker than our EVO6 with road tyres round the twisty bits, but we pulled a length or two up the pit straight, due to better traction out of the hairpin.(standard EVO tyres and brakes, but Apexi boost controllers and probably over 300bhp - the next rolling road day will tell us)

You were obviously trying hard, as you spun it behind us once after Duffus, when the track was damp, then put the sh*ts up me when you got it sideways under braking for the hairpin, saw you coming and turned in a little earlier, so no problem.

Although Sam was out on the track nearly all the time, like us, we never got near each other.

But, a great day out, and a passenger ride the next time for me please.

Dave reid,

yeah that length or two is 4x4 traction out of the hair pin as u said, I have to wait to very near the exit before i can plant it and even then 70% of the time it just burns out 2nd even with the slicks.

The spin ( umb embarased ) and the locking up at the rear ( hehehe ) are due to the rear slicks not having enough heat and thus grip. My cars weight distribution is totally up in the air. Its 610 kilos at the front axel and only 300 at the rear!

so the rear slicks take a lap longer to warm up, thus providing rear locking up!!!

and they cool down faster when the snow hits them, thus providing us with a spin. First time i have EVER spun my rst in the four years i have owned it. The front slicks still had TONS of heat and grip, the rears went cold and DOH no grip

What i basically thought about our cars was that when i was getting traction and u were flooring it, we were both so evenly matched it wasnt worth talking about. Out of the hairpin ur traction got you away to start with and then it leveled out all the way up the straight as soon as i got the power down.

Through the twisty bits my car was faster and my only real opportunity to make a stab at overtaking was after the chicane which i could come thru a little faster.

But i felt it was great fun to be chasing an evo 6 in the old banger ( i do say cheeky things about my car but i know its quick )

all in all a great laugh.

If/when im ever on again, you are MORE than welcome to get strapped into the bucket and harness and come for some passenger laps!

though unfortunatly i think it will be some time till im on the track again due to saving up.!

cheers!

ps id love a shot in an evo 6 ive never been out in one before and they are my realistic dream car

hi david we must have been lapping at similar speeds that is also why wee never even saw each other .i am still thinking about gettin an evo vi in few months though, i think i can achieve more with the EVO VI and link ( evo link ) than i have with the UK car. it could be interesting.

will you stop blaming every thing on wheel spin i had wheel spin out of a lot of the corners on slicks but you don't see me moaning about it
