what speed have they promised you?

Yep. Sunny Cornwall. The line checker says: down - 34.2Mb, up - 7.8Mb
But they also say ADSL will be 5.5Mb when in real life it's 8 (and the Openreach engineers who have tested the line in the last fortnight (had a couple of BB problems - both BT's end but they had to check at my side too) said it would support up to about 9.5Mb. So I'm hopeful of getting near enough max. speed. I'm 400 'steps' from the green box (about 400 yds). Sad I know ....
