I've been using tesco's for a while now... They were more than 5p a litre cheaper than the shell garage (till it closed). Never had a problem and i can get about 300 miles from a tank...... if i'm careful

Tesco 99 used to be fine, but about a year ago they must have changed something, as i noticed a drop in performance and got a lot more det. Once the tank was empty i put Shell fuel in and all was back to normal.
Tried the Tesco again about a month later and the same happened.
Haven't bothered since.

Default What about Morrisons like

Is Morrisons unleaded any good if i pass Shell garage i generally fill up with V-Power, it sometimes seems beneficial due to getting the points.Morrisons also have points scheme just wondered if any good.

Theres a BIG difference between supermarket fuel and branded fuel, Tesco 99 is the best for supermarket fuel, but any branded Hi-octane name Texeco,BP,Shell,Esso, is MUCH better than Tesco,an it aint much more expensive. It depends wot you want, to get you to work and back, buy anythin, you wanna listen to your engine, buy a "branded" Hi-octane fuel.

Disagree there mate as ive worked in the oil industry fo over 24years, all the fuel that is refined is the same fuel it has different additives added to it depending on where its going ie branded stations or supermarket fuel.

Jus contradicted yourself bud, you said its all the same fuel, BUT has different additives..so the end product (wot goes in mi tank) cannot be the same??

As someone said earlier, 99 octane fuel is the one to always use.

Here in the UK, that can be Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power.

I would suggest forgetting anything else, which answers your 'is Esso any good' question.

The only real difference is if the fuel is branded hi - octane, regular unleaded from supermarkets generally originates from the UK refineries of the big brands so bar a different detergent being added is identical. Sit outside a fuel distribution terminal ( I worked in one ) and count the different branded tankers collecting from it. As a matter of interest regular unleaded close to a refinery is often of a higher than advertised specification to allow for degredation if it is transported by pipeline or rail to other distribution terminals.

STI hand book says use only 98ron or above to prevent engine damage. Super unleaded is only 97 ron and normal unleaded is 94 or 95 ron. Has to be t99 or v-power really. If non is available then used Millers additive which will bring up the ron by 3.

my local Tesco's is as expensive as the local shell garage on U/L and Diesel and frequently the shell garage is cheaper. not sure about the T99-V power as that isn't on the displays.

I buy the petrol at work in London its normally 3 pence per litre cheaper

Run my UK turbo on tesco super and Vpower, prob about 80% Tesco. Recently had issues (may be the maf sensor again though) so going to just use Vpower for a while and see if it helps.
ran my car on sainsbury's once and the car hated it, lost a lot of power, the whole car just felt wrong. BP is ok but my car def runs better on tesco super or Vpower.

whats new with the tesco fuel? just a name change? my car used to run great on it.
