Mate the v5 and v6 are as far as I know the same thing. The only difference are cosmetic other than you have to push the clutch in to start a v6, the v6 was fitted with a front lip spoiler and the rear spoiler has a higher lip which kind of flicks up. Oh and the red pattern on the front seats is different.
Other than that I am sure you should be able to pick a very tidy v5/6 sti up. There are plenty for sale but I would pop a link up to any you are looking at and I am sure people will pitch in.
IMO make sure you hold out for one with full uk history, and a few choice mods such as full decat, panel filter, gauges, uprated full pump ie walbro 255, if your lucky most should have suspension mods too but please hold out for one that has been mapped for uk fuel and even better if it was by someone like bob rawle, Simon Aka jolly green monster (jgm) Andy forest, Paul @zen are just a few.
Good luck

Just to clear this up, here is my WRX Sti Type R V-Limited
The roof vent is standard
There is no blue dash surround
The seats are not blue, but are different to the normal Type R - They have red flecks on the seat back and the swab you sit on . The normal Type R has red flecks on the back only
There is no 'limited' edition plaque on this model, but they were a short production run from something like Oct 98 - April 99 so no *** of 1000
I think there are a few mechanical differences, but minor from what i remember
The is no such thing as a Type R RA in a classic. The hawkeye model that peeps are refering to is a WRX Sti Spec C RA-R. I've never seen or know anyone that has one of these in the UK.
Oh and the car was only available in Blue

The ra has a shorter ratio gearbox and is not to everyones taste. The type r and ra I think had quick rack steering unlike the STD sti, performance wise they are all very similar
Best thing to do is start a separate thread mate and I am sure you will get plenty of help

some hadn't been mapped at all, they had some crystal things in the fuel tank that added the ron to the petrol but they went off after a couple of years and then the engines detted thereselves to pieces. thats what i got told anyway.

Mine came from SVA imports. A bit pricey i agree but you do get a full 12 month warranty with the car. Always open to a deal as well and he puts everything right that may be wrong with the car. He does have some nice cars and will source you what you are looking for and takes away all the hassle yourself
