Agreed, but don't get over keen on using the gears to slow down - a couple of times in the snow last year I shifted down too soon and it locked the wheels up

Snow driving is brill, still to find an hill to stop me yet. Nice steady speed in 2nd never fails me.
As for ABS take the fuse out, and as said use gears to slow. If you find your revs are to high, use common sense and let the clutch out SSLLLLOOOWWWWLLLLYYYYY.
Hope it's like this on xmas, ant had a white xmas for yrs.

Just 'blip' the throttle ...wheels unlock & engine braking resumes. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll come to a standstill using the above, rather than just using the brake pedal

Shouldnt that be, "We have snow in London, prepare for it to dominate the national news for days to come, all blamed on global warming, trains planes and buses to be cancelled , the roads gridlocked " .... despite only a few mm of snow in the capital

Slid into a bush this morning. Came into the carpark at work (slowly, at like 2MPH) - put my foot on the brake and anothing happened, just slowly slid into a bush.
Bloody great brick wall next to the bush though, so pretty glad I missed that.

Agree with using gears and not brakes. (the handbrake can be fun at times though [in the right place of course] )

Snow driving requires steady and smooth driving with no sudden movements, do that and you should be fine....

My Impreza did me proud today.....took it very steady but it soldiered up the icy slippy hills without any bother.
I can see how people gain a false sense of security with these cars though as they do find traction with ease which can make you forget how slippery it actually is. As we know it doesn’t matter how many driven wheels you have when it comes to stopping. I know it caught me out a few times the first winter I had the car, shat myself when I overshot a junction into a main road, luckily no one was coming.
I wouldn’t say that the Subaru ABS system is poor either, far from it. The problem is the brakes are very good so it doesn’t take much to lock the wheels...my ABS never activated once today.
All I need to do next is get a set of winter tyres. Goodyear Eagle F1’s aren’t really suited to this weather and still the car can find enough traction to make progress. Can only image how much better it would be with the correct tyres.
Although as others have said I’m still very fearful of others running into me, even with the wrong tyres on my car I’m confident that I can stop in time it’s the ***** that follow me as if it’s a warm summers day that scare me. Or those that learnt to drive at the school of MORE POWER just like the idiot in a Vectra that ended up sideways less than a foot aware from a fence in our car park at work and then nearly came through the front door on full oppo lock

just got it like this today started midday and ant really stopped, tuck me 1.5hrs to get home from work. Takes just 23mins in norm conditions.
Would have tuck say 30mins if the other selfish roads users dint get stuck, i pasted nothing short of 9 cars going up the hill close to my house. 3 of the sad acts beeped their horn
