so, is the lambda plugged in at all then?? it should throw a code all the time if its not!!
good that it was a just a leak though, solves that problem!! its always worth checking the pipes for splits too, after time they go brittle and can split really easily.
Strange if the lambda is not plugged in, and you are not getting a code.
The plug for the lambda usually is clipped in place on the rocker cover on the driver side, a 4 pin plug for the early ones (only 3 pins in use though)
Its worth checking the sensor, and if its a 3 wire one, the heater circuit, mine recently failed short and caused all number of issues.

Sooooo...

Went out today and bought an LS02 bosch lambda. Hopefully it won't be too much of a pig to change!!!! I can see where it goes now so fingers crossed it's not too hard to get it out.

Now - The Turbo Rattle!!!!!!

I have found out where it's coming from!!!!!! On the top of the turbo, there is the metal pot and arm which I believe is the actuator, and the arms goes to a lever which I believe controls the wastegate....feel free to correct me as I'm trying to learn!

If I apply a medium pressure with my finger to the lever the actuator rod joins, the rattle stops, so I guess the noise is the wastegate rattling? IS this known as wastegate chatter? And is it just a simple case of adjusting the rod to stop the rattle or does that affect boost?

God this is getting too much for my small brain to handle after being at work all day

Trace the wires back to the connector and dis-connect, slide a ring spanner down the loom and crack the sensor off. It may come off with an open ender but then again..

If this is what you are looking at, then yes, you are correct. The wastegate actuator.

Yep, looks like you've found it then.

Not quite. I would call it, a loose actuator arm rattle.

My arm is pretty solid/tight, which it has to be to keep the wastegate shut. Can you move it in and out, ie open and close it by hand?? It should take quite a bit of pressure to move.

It is a steep learning curve mate, that's for sure.

I'll go try moving it in a minute. The actual rod seems pretty well fixed, but the rod fixes to an arm, and it's when I put pressure on the arm, towards the front of the car, that the rattle stops.

It will need the slightest of adjustments to stop the noise, but will this do anything bad? Change the boost or something? Don't want to make a problem for myself!

You should be ok with minimal adjustment.

Undid the nut but the arm didn't move much, so twisted the rod ever so slightly and it's removed the rattling dramatically. Still there a touch but it's good for now, until I can get myself to enginetuner for a service and check up
