I've seen it - looks good in the flesh - better, alot better than the photos (and I think they look pretty decent), and driven it - its a great drive.....OK, so no whale spoiler, but I think you can add it, and i'd have thought plenty of ways to scooby it up too, if thats what floats your boat!

Nah, it's finished - and that stupid price tag has just killed it stone dead .... type in £33,000 into AutoTrader and see what serious metal comes up - I think you will agree with me that the Tacky STi should be given a wide berth.

Ok I agree I do think making it go above 30k is a mistake, I also agree there are a lot of cars at 33k people could buy s4 2nd hand rs4 and the list goes on, but because subaru are quite rare you have that certain kudos as well as a fast car, but I don't know many cars that give that presence as a scooby, sit yaself in an Audi s4 ok its luxury but it's also insignificant just like your Honda, I agree if I want quality I'd get an s3 or s4 or maybe a 335i but I don't want to be like the 25000 other insignificant people out there. It's all down to personal pref really , but not many cars get the gratitude a scooby gets.

For the record I also have a Honda, its in my garage and comes out at weekends in the summer. I quite like it, but hate emptying the grass box all the time.

i do like the new 4door but the boot is very wide but not that tall

But I'd not get one with a rear spoiler fitted

I have until now watched this thread with some humour, but having seen the car in the flesh I have to say that I really do like it.

Times have moved on since Subaru's rally days and they have had to try and market the STi to a wider audience than they traditionally have; if you want a spoiler whether low or high then you can specify it and if you want a more subtle look then just leave it as is.

As for the specification levels then you will find that a lot of manufacturers especially the German ones you will find that nearly everything is an option on the order form rather than standard equipment.

Pete, your argument about your oil burner being a faster car than the new STi or any STi come to think of it is utter twaddle, you may have a very narrow band of torque which is I would imagine is all over in 2500 revs. Your car even if it has the label of 2.2GT is in no way a performance car, do you really think that the GT label makes it a sports model?

I think that if your car is standard then the performance figures are 138bhp/251 lbs ft of torque which is quite respectable for an oil burner, with a 0-60 time of 8.7 seconds which again is not too bad.

Pete, your continual slagging off of anything Subaru is starting to grate with nearly all of the members of this forum. I understand that you are a wind up merchant and like to post threads in order to sit back and watch the members get wound up and it can be entertaining to watch, but...

 

Just rumours but a new Subaru model is due out in 2011

It may just be the two new engines to "WRX STi" range ..... Diesel(now suprise there then) but the big unvieling will be Turbo Hybrid.

Most believe the new 2WD coupe will also be unvieled August.

Other rumours that Hybrid or the 2wd Coupe will be unvielled in the USA January but more likely a March/April 2011 Auto show

I bought a brand new STi at the end of June - a 330R. Basically IM were getting rid of the last of the boat load, and threw in the PPP and 330S 18" wheels and tyres - free, and called it the 330R.

I paid £28,000 all in. On a new car today that would cost around £36,000.

Feeling like I got a good deal

 

Brand new, fully loaded STIs over here are the thick end of AUD75k (base STI is 67k). That's topside of GBP45k Aussie motorists are being royally screwed.
And there's an auto version too.

The new direct injection petrol engine is launching in the US about now in the Forester. It's said to improve fuel efficiency by 10% (in Subaru terms that pretty good) and CO2 emissions will drop. If they can get the STi down to 224g's then it quids in all round.

 

Diesel STi should do that easily

that new saloon looks horrific and it goes to show what a jap is capable of with a pen!!
would i be right in saying that the original imprezas-bugeyes were designed by an english man and since giving the pen back the japs have managed to turn it into a honda civic saloon

Not sure who designed the Bug but it was turned into the much better looking Blob by the very well-respected Englishman Peter Stephens. At one time after that FHI had an Italian, or was it a Spaniard, who had worked for Alfa on the job. Don't know who designed the new saloon.

FWIW, I'm with those who think the new saloon (and the hatch) look great. Scoobs have never been lookers, but with these models they are beginning to get there, imo. But then I'm also one of those eccentrics who buys a car for the oily bits.

 

At work one of the 2 leggy diesels has been chipped - driver has got used to it now, but was impressed with the additional performance he said he got from it...we'll have to do some time trials one against the other to see what the real impact is....

You misunderstand me ... I think Scoobys are great ... they are simply not worth £33,000 - simple, end of, period.

They have had their day, sadly ..... and haven't kept up. No longer is sh1te interiors and cr4p build quality allowable - hell, it's not even the ballistic missile it was back in the day.

It is a car (the STi) which is looking for a buyer, looking for someone stuck in the past, looking for someone who is blind to the alternatives.

A Subaru Impreza was a performance bargain, that's what made it what it was - that and some imprezive Rally wins ........ it is no longer a bargain, it is matched in speed by many others and it doesn't appear on the Rally Stages of the world.

I feel sorry for those who missed out on the Classic years .... they were the best.

The last chapter has been written and the book is about to close on the Subaru FairyTale .... Subaru will return from where they came - looking after Farmer Giles with his sheep and Mrs Giles with her Justy.

 

i saw a funny advert today, seat leon cupra r, £27,000 basic price, not on the road price. i think that is overpriced, an extra 6k for the impreza over that would be the easiest choice i ever made.

Ok 330r 28k 0-60 4.8 or 4.4 depending on where u read it not many cars I know that look conservative u can throw loads in the back with seats down with those stats,
33k is drifting into then realms of other models but it's al downnto pers pref and the fact your man enough to afford one. There not mass produced like Audis hondas thats why when I drive around where a select crew of people. Ive driven to London and id be happy to see one scooby amongst the 500
