I had thought about avoiding the GT version and just getting the standard S2000 and buying a hardtop, didnt realise though that i'd have to buy the catches aswell... will probs just pay the extra for the GT version, they arent massively over the price of the standard.

Only thing you need to worry about with a roof is does it leak or not.MX is great roof when required.
The PITA with hard top is you can't do spur of the moment throw the roof off

The hardtop might be a nightmare, for as you say "spur of the moment"... but i think during spring and summer it would just be stored, autumn probs off and on, and winter on all the time... I a dont really like the look of the material roof to be honest, whereas I really like the look of the hardtop

Great cars, recently sold one, regretted it so went and bought another with 120K miles and still going strong and intend to keep it. Ironically my current one even with the rocket ship miles, feels more sorted and quicker. Just sold the hardtop as much like Saxoboy I like to be able to have the choice to drop the hood on a winters day so long as the sun is shinning. Getting the hardtop on and off is too much of a faff and a 2 person job.
Simple cars to work on as well with equally huge knoweldge base on them.

High mileage on the Vtec's isnt really a problem is it? So long as they've been regularly serviced and looked after?
What sort of upkeep do they take?
After what people have been saying about the hardtops, may avoid them?????

gut i work with is selling his modded one at the moment, pretty marmite tho due to the time attack looking bodykit etc lol!
He's got it priced quite high (altho it is only 2 years old and got 4k on the clock, barely ever driven it lol) but i think tbh he secretly doesnt want to sell it as he's looking for a supercharger kit at the moment...!

Dead simple to work on, and self service. Everything is easy to get to, and parts rarley go wrong. I will now self service mine myself, part of the fun of ownership for me.
I just sold my Hard top and fitting kit for £700 which came with the car I didn't pay that much for car due to Mileage and a few minor marks. Which effectively gives me another £700 to put in the piggy bank for running costs.
As with Scoobynet there is a wealth of knowledge on www.s2ki.co.uk

Yea, I plan on signing upto S2KI before buying, just to read up alittle more on them... after checking around a few insurance companies quotes seem to be coming back really REALLY expensive for these... nearly twice what the Impreza is costing me, is that normal?
Can you recommend any decent insurance co's that do decent prices on the S2000?
26 years old, driving for 8 years with 8 years NCB, no claims or convictions = £1200!!

Worth trying Keith Michaels tel: 0845 3373380. Come highly rated in here and from me.
But yep loaded group 20. **** can be very twitchy, and there are lots of CATc and CATd examples about which goes to show something. They are a proper drivers car, that need to be treated with respect.
Dare I say is the car probably lures allot of people just for its looks and 2 seater convertible thrills, who possibly have little experience of a performance car let alone RWD 240bhp and Vtec.
I found a quiet (private)trading estate at the dead of night with a roundabout and large car parks and soon got to grip of its limits They handle extremely well and even when the **** starts to let go where others might panic and come a cropper, it's great fun holding it out there and just having fun with the RWD.
You really have to drive a S2000 (Part of the appeal), where as any lunatic can drive a Scoob or Evo relatively quickly.

Key to holding an S2000 out is to only back off a tiny fraction when she starts to go; if you lift you are in a world of trouble. Even at that though, it isn't easy to drift and you can still get caught out. I spun out on my 3rd pass round a mini-roundabout one morning on the way to work

Got me thinking now this thread.....
Wanted a bit of speed so was thinking of swapping MX for an Elise.Reason got the mx in first place though was reliability.
However much heart says elise, reality checks in....this might be the alternative

I would have one 2moro if I could get shot of the Impreza, cant sell as a whole as will lose too much, cant put back to standard and sell as have a forged engine (would need remapping)... and to break it, well, I would need a buyer for my engine 1st!!
I know exactly the one I want aswell! 3 mint ones have come and gone and i'm sat here with no money to buy them!
... i do like the noise mine makes though
