Weight saving on a WRX
I run some Hill Climbs in Slovakia on Skoda Octavia Group N(my friend car)with or without rear spoiler.
I must tell without Rear spoiler car has been so heavy and hard to control,yes on straight line car has been like rocket,but in first corner car has been so rubish.
With Rear spoiler has been another history and my time has been better almost 6 seconds.
With rear spoiler or without spoiler i run exactly its same setup,and in my eyes(and comparing to time) its best run with spoiler.
And another story is why guys,which running any trackdays,Time Attacks or TOTB have rear spoiler

I'm doing the same with my car but without taking out the luxuries like air-con. Took the front sub-frame off and saved 18kg by itself and got a far sharper turn-in on cornering and less under steer to boot. Did look at some very light batteries, however they drain far too quickly on a car with a tracker and alarm.
Relocating the battery to the boot can be a good move to take another 20kg off of the front and even up the weight distribution. Not been @rsed to do that yet. JDM Spec C glass panels are lighter than standard. Don't know if that fits a standard WRX or just the STI
Carbon fibre can be a good move for the doors, roof and boot (not the bonnet) if you have cash burning a hole but it needs to be dry carbon fiber otherwise it won't last without alot of care and the weight saving is less for wet. Overall would take 10s of kg off but cost 1000s
Their are a number of lightweight bumper bars out there or you can have them made (risky for road use) but still lose another 10-15kg there. Some people are running bumper bars weighing only 2kg although I'm not sure what would happen if they were rear ended by say... a gnat!

Food for thought, i removed my spare wheel from my MR2 and when i had a blow out the feckin RAC wouldnt do a thing as its meant to have a spare in it, had to get my brother in alw to go to my house, into my shed and then drive the 28 miles to where i had broken down. *****
