8th Annual Scooby Shoot-Out
Elvington Airfield: 3rd October 2010
Elvington Airfield: 3rd October 2010
Big “Hat’s off” to everyone involved in the organisation/running of the event, they all deserve a medal, or a rubber duck!
Trevor, Helen and all the Straightliners crew, Kev, Adam and all at ScoobyClinic helped put on a great show in spite the weather.
Also has to be a big thank you to everyone who turned up and braved the elements to either spectate or take part. Hopefully you had a good show, and were rewarded for being true petrol heads!
The weather was going to play a big part in the day’s events, as heavy rain started to fall from 7am, and it didn’t let up until around 4pm.
The airfield at Elvington rumbled to the unmistakeable sound of the Subaru Flat 4 Boxer engine (and the odd flat 6!), as they were pushed to their limits (or when the drivers bottle ran out!) down the ¼ mile drag strip and around the handling circuit.
Brought to you by the “Straightliners” team, the driving force behind TOTB, the 2010 Shoot-Out is in its 8th year and it continues to grow and support the ever popular Japanese make. To strengthen the event this year, one of the UK’s largest Subaru specialists “ScoobyClinic” came on board as the title sponsor. Their involvement is expected to see the future of the Shoot-Out cemented into the events calendar for years to come, and already a date has been confirmed for next year.
In addition to sponsoring the event, “ScoobyClinic” also put their money where their mouth was by bringing along a team of cars to battle alongside the rest of the entrants.
With lakes forming on the handling circuit, and rivers running across the strip, it was the brave that prepared their cars to do battle.
The handling circuit proved to be the most popular, with cars snaking their way through the paddock as they lined up for their turn. Due to the weather, the course had to be re-designed at the last minute to avoid the larger areas of standing water however this still claimed a few “victims” as they slid over the finish line and ploughed straight through it!
Over on the strip, none of the cars were able to run anywhere near their full potential, and for safety reasons only one car was allowed on track at a time. A 10.6 second pass was the quickest on the day, being set by Paul Martin in his Evo.
The dedicated drag cars expected to be capable of 9 second passes remained on their trailers due to having nothing but slick tyres to run on. Even with full wets, the cars were spinning the wheels to half distance, and then faced standing water towards the end of the strip!
With a torrential down pour just after dinner, it would have taken Moses to part the water that had been deposited, which saw wheels and jerry cans floating through the paddock! With 5 inches of standing water in places, the event was called to an early finish in the interest of safety.
The real winner on the day was the weather however I think the majority managed to get some enjoyment from the event.
Again, top marks to all of the organising team, and ScoobyClinic for putting up the prizes and offering their support.

Hi,
just received the official scooby clinic shootout results.
Evo times are not to be counted as they were not in the scooby shootout hence the line drawn through them, no offence intended as they added to the days excitement but were in a different event called grudgement day.
cheers
