Exhaust noise test!
Mate i promise you use will be well over 90 db and would never pass, I cant tell you how quiet the miltek is, people cant barley here me arrive at there home etc, In the car its so quiet too, As ive said the car was standard when i bought it with the ppp pack and the car is not really any louder than stock, So put it this way if i fail the test that mean's no one else's car unless running stock exhaust will pass

ok ill bare that in mind then. ill just have to sit at low revs then.
one of the places i use to work we had a posrche 911 gt cup car. on the track it was 110 db's and with the silencer on it, it was something like 87-90 db's. and that was very loud then!

In my experience Milltek are somewhere between 93 and 97db at Track Day static sound checks .... it all depends on the exhaust / turbo setup and whether check at 4k revs or 3/4 of the red line .... but I have had one up to 104 db on the track itself.
Apparently de-catted twin scolls are the noisiest ... with a cat making it slightly less noisy
Hope this helps

hi all,
raising an old thread I know
but I'm after advice on quietening down my 3" H&S (no Cat 3" front to back).
on an STi8. At 1.9 bar
it sounds ... cough cough a bit loud IMHO.
I hear people talking about bungs for track days (which is why I need to quieten it) anyone out there using one on fairly high bhp car?
Where might I buy one for this exhaust?
Will it (as I fear) reduce my BHP? IMHO it would.
As my car has had quite a few quid spent to make it the bhp it is I'm rather keen not to reduce it by shoving a bog roll up its chuff (in the exhaust)
But also I need to get it a bit quieter for track days... help!
Cheers

I think mine might be the loudest lol i have a full 3" roger clark team ice system decat with only a silencer in the centre section and at approx 120db its a bit on the loud side and i keep the revs down where plod are about lol.
I'm still a bit worried I'll screw something bunging my exhaust.
read a thread on a Nissan forum where a guy split his back box running a bung - something wrong there?

Nothing they can enforce with a test like that imho.
Exhaust type approval is another matter though and one almost all petrolheads would fall foul of. Luckily it doesn't seem to be enforced.
Miltek are one of the quieter systems out there.

on the other forum im on someone had a similar prob and they police couldnt do anything other than request his car takes an MOT test, which it passed, so there was nothing they could do,
seems a very open ended thing, if someone complains about the noise then you can get bother.

exhaust type approval only applies to later cars made after a certain year, i have a friend who is a police officer and the other day i was chatting to him about my car being very loud (98dba on idle and 120+ dba on full chat) and he said to me not to worry unless i am the type of person who hammers up and down the road all day long (which i dont), i have been followed loads of times and pulled on a few occasions and have only ever had my exhaust noise questioned once and that was by one of them young im moving up the ladder and i dont care how i do it coppers, so i just told him "yeah its a bit noisy but they all seem to be like it" he had no answer and said ok have a good day and buggered off??? i think he thought i was gonna bite so he could do me for it!
