Last time I bought oil I paid about £45 for Millers CFS. That's about £20 more than a vanilla semi-synth. £20 in 6 months is pretty negligible on the scale of things for a better oil. £20 in the Impreza ownership scale of things is miniscule lol.

Penny wise, pound foolish

That said, I'm quite confident you're about to tell me your car's done 100k without setting a foot wrong

Have to agree with Pete (sigh)

Prodrive MY97 uk wagon commuting every day, 28 mile high speed blast in the morning (regularly cook the brakes and blown two gearboxes), plod back in traffic in the evening (yawn). Last 60k on Vauxhaul 10W40 semi and pattern filters, changed every 5k.

Now at 151,000 miles with a spare engine in the garage waiting, only takes 7 hours to change LOL

At a minimum of £20 saving per oil change that is £240, nearly what I paid for the 30,000 mile spare block......

You see?

You are taken in by the marketing men ... 'vanilla' semi-synth ... vanilla?????

Of course, you are probably not an Engineer so get easily led by the Adverts and stuff ... those who know, don't!

You continue paying £45 every 6 months, you are happy wasting that money - your choice. I pay about £15 for the required spec. for my Scooby - changed every single 6 months (with Subaru Oil Filter). Over 10 years you are looking at £600 which you are throwing down the Oil Pan ..... if you think that insignificant then OK carry on, waste your money.

And yes, mine has done 100,000 miles and runs as smooth as it always has - that is hard evidence, not marketing hype! You have a choice, believe what you can see - or believe the Ad men with their vested interests!

I meant 'vanilla' in the boggo/standard/ordinary sense of the word, not literally vanilla flavoured oil you wingnut.

You're probably right for the way you drive though. Mine is a track car so sees ridiculous punishment though so I'm happy to pay the £20 premium

And finally, I am an engineer

Mine is a road car that sees ridiculous punishment and frequently visits the red line. Vauxhaul 10w40 semi all the way

You Ba***tard ..... I put some of mine in the wifes Ice Cream last night thinking it was really vanilla - and now she is suffering OilyItus the Doctors say!! Never mind ... it's improved her lubrication

As an Engineer, then .... could you please confirm that, for a Road Car, 10W-40 Semi is absolutely perfect?

It's fine. Among other things, I worked for about 3 years on a very popular small Japanese car's oil pump project as we were the OE supplier so have a little bit of relevant experience.

I only started arguing because it was you tbh
