Got Jedi Knight II,.....which was nice
As much as I'd hate to admit it, I have to agree with Damaja. I found it utterly dissapointing. Points that stick out in my mind:
AI.
What the hell? How can anything move about side to side like they do? I found it very unrealistic and more to the point, annoying.
Also, how the hell can they hit you with that annoying disruptor rifle from 2 miles away with absolute accuracy and you can't even see them they're so far away!
Weapons.
Until the light sabre arrived, the weapons are pretty uninspiring. The standard issue has absolutely no use whatsoever and the storm trooper rifle has such poor aim, you end up unloading 300 cells worth of laser into an enemy without hitting him once and then watch as he runs past you in the opposite direction!?
Maps.
So unintuitive, every single map so far has had me back tracking on myself, without a clue as to what I'm meant to do now. No linear plot or direction with vague instructions as to what to do. Hit tab and it says "Complete mission by completing mission"
..ok.
Graphics.
Ugh..And this is the same company that owns Industrial Light and Magic?? Have you seen the cut scenes? The TEETH? What the hell are they about? So unconvincing, they should take a leaf out of the Half Life book, which is now 4 years old!
Also, I found myself hitting the use button on almost every single console not knowing if I'd missed one. And the night vision goggles? I may aswell stare into the sun!
Physics.
You cannot say that you enjoy controlling this character? You press forward, after depressing he still moves 2 foot in the same direction. When navigating platforms, you often find yourself falling off; Jump > ooh left a bit > oh no, right! STOP > AAARRGGHH!
I could go on, but I shalln't be harsh because I'm still playing it. Partly because I want to get the rest of the force powers, but also because I am unable to put a game down until I've completed it.
Sorry, room 101 for me. Companies like LucasArts should be inspiring and influencing other firms with their experience and quality of subject matter, but now they're just rehashing old ideas.

At least with MOH the graphics were amazing, the whole atmosphere helped you feel a part of the game (especially the beach level) and the teeth that the people had did not resemble that of a neolithic monkey.
At least someone agrees with me on this. Jedi Knight 2 would be a good game if none of the other great FPS came before it but even saying that I am sure people would get cheesed of with firing a laser at someone point blank and nothing happening.
I mean come on what sets this apart from anthing else? I agree it maybe more exciting as you get to be a jedi and play with a light sabre but man what an ugly looking jedi he is! Jan is probably better off getting killed at the beginning at least she won't have to look at his skull face anymore.

Eeee you guys
Partly agree with comments from Dam and Cem. I thought I had the graphics set up badly initially because some of the stuff looked pixellated. However, they were on the highest settings.
AI, yes it ain't as good as half life, but the funky storm trooper jig made me laugh as he took two steps forward, two steps back in front of me whilst I unloaded about 200 cells of my blaster into the wall behind him and then died
Cem, if you want to stop the extra steps, turn auto run off or hold left shift. It's much easier walking instead of running when navigating ledges. As for the guys that can kill you with the disruptor from two miles away....the only drawback I found was locating them...once I'd found them though, a quick zoom in in sniper mode on the disrupter, and a single head shot took them out.
So some fair points made, this game doesn't break any grounds in innovation, but I still think it's quite a good one. As I said previously, still has some of the annoying traits of Jedi Knight I, and they can't really go too overboard on new weaponry without inducing cries of despair from the star wars massive.
Like Cem, I will play this through to the end. I'm finding it fun, but not gripping like half life was. Haven't played MOH, so can't comment on that, but IMHO it's better than return to Wolfenstein.
My 2p laid firmly on the table

Oh well I suppose I'm easily pleased
Speaking of Half Life - what the hell are Valve working on at the moment ? Is there a Half Life sequel on the cards ? All I heard recently is this new Stream thing they're doing for net play.
And as for Duke Nukem....SHEEESH!

You need more caffeine
As an aside (sort of), whilst running around endlessly on the Trash level, I was thinking, if this was a star wars film and I was watching this bloke endlessly running around the same rooms, jumping about, shooting everything in sight for fun, I'd demand my money back. Now I know games aren't films, but you can probably see my point.
I still like it though
How many of you honestly think anything with a star wars licence won't sell? It's almost a licence to print money
And I agree, those teeth are damn scary

I'm fighting Desaan now, the final battle of the game, apparently.
