The Torys reply is right on ... "... The Conservatives said Mr Brown's comments spoke for themselves. Shadow chancellor George Osborne said: "That's the thing about general elections, they do reveal the truth about people." ..."
Spot on.

PS: still not going to vote for them.

He'll be blaming all women called Sue for causing earthquakes!
EDIT - I fail to see how this incident raises the issue of immigration up a notch? She complained about a number of things not just immigration yet the media is really playing up immigration.

The original exchange between the Gillian Duffy and Brown that sparked his comments

Have a lsiten from 02.28 and her (Gillian's) immigration question and his answer - fantastic and no wonder he hated the interview, he was cornered and unable to get away.
He answered that "A lot of English people in Europe as well" so what does that mean then?
She has him on the railings grilling him and he looks shifty and unable to do anything but generalise with soundbites - no substance or honesty at all.

"... "I think we need to allow people to have their own consciences," he said. "I personally always took the view that, if you look at the case of should a Christian hotel owner have the right to exclude a gay couple from a hotel, I took the view that if it's a question of somebody who's doing a B&B in their own home, that individual should have the right to decide who does and who doesn't come into their own home." ..."
Strangely you'll only find the most (il)liberal folk disagreeing with this comment. Or those on the opposite side in the election debate ...
Secondly, Brown's comments showed him to be the most hypocritical and small-minded of people (to use polite adjectives!) and the sort of person we don't want anywhere near the levers of power. He showed what he really thinks of us *proles* and especially, in this case, a natural Labour supporter!!!
There's an article on the Independant site that Guido links to ... http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion...y-1956110.html
It's actually about ***** and there is a paragraph of description on him. But him and Brown are cut from the same mould so the description could just as easily be of Brown ... "... Cocky, fake, slimy, inelegant, ineloquent, charmless, witless, weird, sinister, glacially cold and luminescently remote, he may be the most chillingly repulsive politician of even this golden generation. If Pixar set out to create a CGI character to embody everything the public has learned to despise about its political class, they'd be thrilled to come up with this lizardy schemer, who may have slipped through a tear in the fabric of space-time himself. Certainly he seems best suited to skulking beneath stone archways, in a purple robe, sibilantly sidling poison into the bloodstream of the medieval Vatican. ..."
That about sums it up ......

Firstly, Grayling's comments were wildly misrepresented. From here ... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010...-bed-breakfast
