We've had a couple delivered in pieces after the dealers took them apart for a second time then said "sorry no warranty". One of them was really badly repaired previously, with parts damaged all over it.

 

why did they say 'sorry no warranty'?

was that after they saw how bad it had been repaired?

I wouldn't worry about that after seeing your average fuel consumption

Joking aside are you planning on doing anything about it? At the very least I would have thought you'll take it in for a warranty inspection at the end of Jan and then give a respected mapper a call?

As in you pick up the phone to the dealer and ask them to give it a good look over before it expires?

 

They repaired it both times! They also said he'd been "hammering" it.

 

and they'll strip down the engine to have a look to see if it has any issues?

 

This is one of the main reasons why I got rid of my 330S - the uncertainty, and the niggling in the back of the mind that it might just go bang.

Hi guys, bought an 09 sti330s from a Subaru main dealership in Jan this year, it's covered 7000 miles this year mostly sensible with the family in but with the occasional bit of fun (as you would expect, I didn't buy a a 1.4 Astra!!), mileage is now at 43000 and the expected ring failure has struck. Don't know previous history of car until I go to the dealer tomorrow to have a discussion over who is footing the repair bill! I will most certainly be pushing for a 'proper' repair job with forged pistons probably under threat of much media attention and/or high explosives :-) I'll let you all know how I get on tomorrow night....

 

if they foot the bill for the rebuild will be back to standard engine im afraid

 

At least the dealership in stoke seems ok? What colour is your 330s? Ive seen a few hatches about

 

what reg is it? someone on here might of been the owner and know the car, if it has had a warranty claim previously.

Sold mine after 4 years with 15,000 miles on it.pampered to death with five Subaru services from new.

3000 miles with new owner and a trip to Enginetuner was needed

What still rattles me is Subaru's denial, body swerving and lack of respect for there customers. They should have recalled, designed the problem out and stood by some very loyal customers.

I feel for anyone who has suffered this problem. No one should have to spend circa £3500 to fix a inherent problem on this type of car if it has been driven sensibly, maintained correctly and not DIY modified.

Yeah I was up that way getting a crimbo present for my missus from moddershall, and I live over in forsbrook too. Just heard from dealer, comp+leakdown test were fine oil level was dropping because of a crack in the sump. Rough idle was due to an intake hose worked loose and they aren't too sure about the excessive smoke so I suppose it's good news! What color/year/type is yours?

 

Ahh nice, was working at the BT cab on the mini roundabout, in the sleet, heard the burble coming past, seen it was a hatch, mines a 08, blue/ gold, same spec as a 330 less the 30bhp lol, good news with the car tho, all easily resolved, and a relief for you, shame u have no answer with the smoke tho? Maybe get a second opinion else where?

 

Yeah, i'm still fully intending on forging it in the new year anyway this just may have advanced the programme by a few months lol. Gives me a chance to earn a bit more cash and hide it from the missus too!

STi hatch, with PPP fitted for its third birthday. Big end has gone apparently. Down to the dealer tomoz to discuss and look at its innards. Out of warranty etc so will be digging into the pockets to resolve. I am happy with performance as is, but planning to keep it another five years, so... Any specific requests I should make to the garage to maximise future life?

 

Ask them if they deliver to API, Engine Tuner or the Clinic

 

Strongly agree with trooper on that one. I wouldn't entertain giving it to a dealer at the prices they charge. Give it to someone who specialises in them day in day out would be my honest advice.

Dealers like the standard route and if you request aftermarket parts then they may not want to warrant any work, and bollocks to having it put back standard for more money than a forge build would cost you may not all all of them but they are out there

 

as a minimum

custom remap after any work

rebuild with forged bearings set
forged pistons
uprated head gaskets and studs

 

Finally got a reply from Mercedes about my car problems, via their solicitor.

Well no surprise they are still denying any responsibility and refusing any help whatsoever.

They are still going with their initial claim that I ran it without oil but now saying “While we have not had the finalised report yet the initial indications from the expert confirm that the failure of the engine upon your subaru is purely as a result of lack of oil”.

They did an independent report on 8th November but that has not actually turned up yet.

here are some facts:

My car has had close to 8ltr of oil go through it in just 3491 miles.

* Bought car, oil was full.
* 2900 miles later had to top up oil
* approx. 200 miles later noticed smoke from engine, oil leak from disconnected breather pipe. Oil empty so topped up again.
* approx. 300 miles later blue smoke from exhaust, engine stripped and pistons 2 and 4 ringland failure, crankshaft destroyed and oil pick up pipe plus some other bits missing (turbo stay bracket for example).

I should also note that I have my shell Vpower fuel statement and have receipts to show oil was bought twice and topped up during this period.

David from API Impreza is rebuilding my car as I got fed up of waiting, been 3+ months now.

Need to send a reply to this letter so looking for some other thoughts on this from people who understand the mechanics of my problem

If it used that much oil in so short a mileage, was it sold with a known fault ( did previous owner know, or the dealer? )
Would it then be sold fit for purpose?

Write to the dealer principal at the dealer, explain again the timeline, challenge if they think this is acceptable ( especially what is expected to be frequency / amount of oil top ups ) etc.
DON'T say you found it empty of oil!!!

Worth trying trading standards or consumer aid groups, maybe even Which? or watchdog?

 

I bought the car with the presumption it was in perfect condition and they did not make me aware of any issues. Subaru in Otley told me the car will use roughly 1ltr of oil for every 1000 miles, i don't know how true that is But certainly seems excessive to me what my car used.

I'm in contact with citizens advice so will try get a referral to trading standards on Monday.

Also the dealer principal has now referred me to his solicitor and will not respond to me personally.
