Id like to hear how loud these are. Do you have any in car vids from a car with all the interior.

 

I'd post my vids but it's stripped out....plus you wont hear it over the fuel pump!! If you're worried about them whining, don't, they're helical cut so pretty damn quiet compared to straight cut

 

I'll post it anyway, having just watched it I think you'll find it's relatively quiet given the spec of the car; stripped interior and the centre diff has straight cut gears so most of the noise comes from that part of the gearbox!

remember six speeders are much heavier.

I have one of these kits in my car, swapped out the straight cut PPG as it made my ears bleed, the Scoobyclinic helical is not much louder than a standard box, just a pleasant whine, reminding you there is something special in there., and you can use your steza.

Must say the car did seem quicker due to the straight cut noise.

All in the mind.

Hi,

one thing I need to mention is that the kits are designed for the 8 bolt bell housing box only, thats the later 5 speed box 99 on.

If your gearbox bellhousing is the earlier version then a casing will have to be sourced.

I have a full 754 casing should anyone need

 

Hmm .. I just asked this question in the drivetrain section but anyways;
would it be possible to buy a gearset and a 754 casing and just take parts from my original 752 casing to build a complete gearbox with dccd and stronger gears in a 754 case?

... my car is a v3 sti ra btw

you will need the kit and the 754 case, the dccd will just bolt straight on, but you will need all the later base internals inc syncro rings, syncro hubs, reverse idler.

Is better to find a faulty 754 box which has stripped a gear.

The box can take 580bhp / 580ftlbs but how much will my R160 diff and drive shafts take? before they break.

But these seem the be much cheaper than say PPG's. Could you give me a price inc vat and shipped to Finland?

Elite built my gearbox for my 5 speed Hawkeye, full dog engagement,
TOTB 2009 3rd run down drag strip, gear box went bang, Elite did mend the gearbox free of charge.
Entered scooby sprint 2008 got 3rd in priveteers modified class,
Gear box gone bang 3 more times, cost of removing, replacing gears & re fitting gearbox has done my head in. now running 6 speed DCCD hawkeye gearbox, should of gone this way at the start.

When I had these gearbox problems I was running 300 BHP 370 Torque.

I do have to say, when the gearbox was working it was fantastic, but when it lets you down for me it is not worth it,

It would be good to see if the Clinic and Elite have got it right now,
I know mine was Dog not syncro.

Hi everyone,

I'm quite interested in this gearset ; however I've got a few questions relative or not to my future setup. First some specs/requirements:

- stripped out / caged GF8 shell
- 2.5L 450hp / 55 mkg engine
- front + rear 114.3 PCD hubs/brakes/arms/frames/shafts
- DCCD

First I had thought of simply throwing in a full STI9+ transmission, which can easily be found second hand. However this adds some weight and remains synchro.

Questions:

- is this a dog engagement set? I'd rather have a real dogbox for maximum performance on the track

- how can I mate such a box with front and rear R180 LSDs and a DCCD with a 41:59 or a 35:65 torque biais? The STI9 transmission comes with a 6 speed synchro, 3.9:1 front helical, rear 3.54:1 helical (1.1:1 propshaft), center 41:59 DCCD. 180's are required for the 114.3 hubs.

another quick update.

T.O.T.B. at Elvington yesterday ( Sunday 8th of aug.) was a great day for testing our gearkits, and the billet turbo's of course.

Our "pink" car, piloted by Mikee Singh, pulled a 9.91 1/4 mile @132 MPH, backed up by a 9.96 @ 138 MPH.

Fastest Subaru of the day with a 1.52/60 foot time.

The gear kit on this thread is now a record holder for a 5 speed syncro kit, and it did not break.

Well done to Mikee and our gearbox partners Elite transmissions.

Kev, is it OEM synchro hubs or elite ones that Kev/Mikee keep breaking?

dont know what you have heard but Kev/bev broke a standard one at Cadwell/Time attack, Mikee hasnt broken one at all, and its Subaru's standard hub that failed, we have yet to try the uprated one.

Rest of the kit stood up well though.

No failings at T.O.T.B. even the oem hub survived Mikee's point scoring launch's and record breaking 1/4 mile times.

Both Kev and Mikee have said that it was Synchros that broke at Cadwell, cant remember what broke at Knockhill, just wanted to know if it was an OEM part or not.

Get Mikee some tidgy brakes whacked on and some drag tyres and see what it really can do.

As you know Kev i personally have been through a hell of a lot of gear kits over the years, so I wanted to know a little more before i decide which box will be going back in my wagon for next year.

I am getting fed up with PPG, as i am sure Mark is too. Every big event something minor has broke in the box, 1st one tiny selector finger, then another selector finger and god knows what broke on Sunday, but it shouldn't be happening IMO. We seem to be "testing" their parts for them!

completely agree, thats why we have gone down this route, PPG simply dont listen, we seem to do their testing, but they dont take on board our findings.

Give us a call I am sure if our gear kit passes your stringent testing then it will be a winner.
