re battery cut out switch, I take it your fitting FAI type with the resistor, how is this going to be wired in? are you retaining the key start or using a ingition switch and push button starter? I'm building a car for the Subaru Cup/ Nippon Challenge and I'm not sure which wy to do it, I think I'd prefer to retain the key start (with the locking mech disabled) but I'm not sure how to wire the resistor in, woud it be OK to simply solder the wires to the back of the ignition switch?

he was but posted no time, he had a small issue and felt it safer to save the engine and fix the problem rather than destroy it, thats why the car only did a few laps saturday. sensible choice if you ask me

yes guys i was, i forgot to fit a transponder on warm up, but fitted one on practice, however started going for it just coming out of lodge and by the time i got back round to lodge again the engine let go, so thats why you cant see a full lap from me, if you look at the sector times and speed traps in the sectors, i think i did very well indeed considering i hadnt turned a wheel on track for a full year in that car, and only running 440/440 on the day, the speed trap shows on some sectors fastest subaru, so obviously all the ingredients are there, just thouht a stock spec c engine would take this power and torque, how wrong was i.

well done to all involved on sat, some very impressive cars

28k martyn, however i do think that there are 440 hp cars and 440 hp cars if you know what i mean, i dont think the 440lbs ft torque helped and also the turbo was pretty much maxed out, as it only has a to4e wheel of an rs 500, i do know a few guys that run full seasons at said power but imo for my car to be pulling over 115mph on the finish line speed trap on my first lap with tyres or brakes not upto temp, it was quite a bit more than said more powered subarus, this could be because i could be taking corners quicker but with my tyres and brakes not upto temp i realy dont think this is correct. there was also only a 40 hp loss through transmission as it made 400atw. i just generally think the limit for a spec c stock engine running this spec and being used for what it is being used for and with me behind the wheel is less than what i had going through it.

thanks andy h

lol, how did you work that out on 2 out of three sectors ?
on my warm up i did three 1.35s on the bounce on my stack dash. the car was capable of a 1.33 with me driving. i did the track day the day before and was doing 1.52s on full track on my stack dash. i dont know what the difference is from full curcuit to island curcuit but this would suggest theres about a 19s difference.

for the record, on the two sectors that i completed in the one lap that i did. it would of put me third in my class.

anyway enough about me and my broken car again, back to the project, sorry for hyjacking thread guys.

Duncan,
Nice times, with improvement over last years.

Andy,
Hope you get it all sorted soon..... let's hope the run of bad luck ends now!

I'm sure we will see you back at full hammer soon!

It's a shame "what if", "could've" & "should've" don't count in Time Attack! I tried that in 2006! roflol

Looks like your in the wrong class Andy. Those times are within the 5% rule (if that still applies this year). If you are doing 1.52 on the full Oulton circuit you really should be in club pro mate.

Sorry about your issues on the day by the way

Duncan, as I said on Saturday, well done. Do what I mentioned to the brakes and you should find it a whole lot better. There are other things too that can help, so PM me if you want.

thanks jon, its just my luck mate, did a full day on track the day before and then it pops when its needed most.

glad to see you were true to form as usual mate, your mate matt was a nice lad too, bit nuts on track but very nice genuine guy. he did very well too with such little power. i think he is also one to watch.
keep up the good work jon

Sounds about right if its on a hub dyno in 3rd gear, perhaps i would expect a bit more in 4th gear at about 60hp, but also depends on rpm.

If i remember rightly it was 460 bhp at the fly and 405 at the wheels , then it was detuned slightly to 440 bhp but i know it was a normal dyno paul not a hub 1 .
Hopefully i will see u all at brands and have better luck than andy.

nobody can have more bad luck than me mate,
it does make a massive difference neil when you drive a competative well set up car. the difference with me driving mine this year and that old red scrapper last year was like night and day, however i did get more points in the red one lol.
i am sure yours will be ok mate, i think its just me cursed with very bad luck. i think its about time to move to the dark side he he

it was a dastek dyno and run in 4th gear, the losses were alot less than the losses i had when my dog box was fitted. it was 75hp loss on the dog box.
i dont agree with percentage hp losses . eg. a 800hp car will not have double the losses than a 400hp car, nah

good luck neil mate

Losses depend massively on roller speed. SO expect significantly more in a long 4th gear at 150mph roller speed than perhaps a close ration box in 3rd at 90mph, probably 130hp vs 75hp losses. And it's not unusual to run the higher powered cars in the higher gears to get the traction, thus sometimes leading the false conclusion that the loss is just a %age of the output power.

Anyway talking figures is boring!

Talking

well why did you bother asking on here then duncan!if your going to start talking times its obvious at some point the conversation will turn to power, thats innevetable . you know why andy wasnt on the time sheets the same as everyone else knows why, id stick your sarcastic comments back in your pocket and start worrying about your lowly 12 place finish, for such a talent as yourself
i dont know why you would want to have digs at someone who has had terminal engine failure at their fist event, bit below the belt dont you think? if the tables were reversed im sure you wouldnt like it. how old are you again? think i might get them to double check your licence make sure you are over 17.
ridiculous!

If I knew Andy's engine had died I wouldn't have asked - Andy didnt tell me nor had he said anywhere that his engine had died. Just wondered where he was so that I could compare times as I was told that the times should do the talking. (It wasnt his first event btw)

My 8th place is another thing altogether and I know exactly why I only beat my last year's best time by 3 seconds - a distinct lack of boost/power and leaking brakes being the two reasons (along with a lack of sleep for not spotting the two reasons earlier in the day)

Now go play with your lego Matt.
