sorry for being thick, but didnt realise that the vent just pulled off the bumper. does the black section clip off or was it a case of placing the 3m over the whole thing and then cutting it to size ????

Yeah the whole vent comes out and cut a piece of 3m slightly bigger than the bit you want to cover and the just trim it after with a sharp knife.

Curious about that last part of your post... You think gluing it on would have some kind of adverse effect? Honestly I intend to just put it on and leave it on... If you're worried about it marring the paint underneath that won't be a bother for me really...

I'm just concerned about the finish, does it have that glossy look that would look like real CF that you'd find on a wing or roof or is it dull like the Di-Noc appears to be?

Also, if you look at it does it jump out and say "I'm a sticker vinyl!!!" or can it pass until very closely looked at?
If you decide you don't like the vinyl you can just peel it off, with the Neffy its more permanent.

My sample of the 3M stuff arrived yesterday and I must say I'm not impressed, it looks nothing like the real thing to me. Its dull and looks fake even from a distance, IMO the Neffy wrap looks loads better. I've got some real CF cloth knocking about somewhere, I'll have a look for it and post a pic of all 3 side by side. Neffy wrap gets my vote for looks, it's much more glossy than the 3M vinyl and is pretty convincing. I found the Neffy dificult to apply to complex shapes, but that might just be me as I am no good at that sort of thing and have no patience to do a good job.

Heres another pic of the Neffy, I placed the PS3 cover on top to cut out a piece for it. Where it bunches up at the bottom of the pic shows the Neffy quite well.

The Neffy is definitely more difficult to use but I prefer it to the 3M stuff. Tried to cover a mobile phone case with some white 3M vinyl and it just wouldn't hold in place. Still playing with both though so may change my mind

Have read further back in this thread. I think it's been tried but with bad results.

THANKS A LOT FOR ALL THIS!!! This is what I wanted all along!

I don't think the GC8 interior parts are quite as curvy as the new age bits so I think I'll try my luck and just be extremely careful. Don't think the curves would matter too much when using it on something like a wing blade or maybe part of a front lip as it should just be a direct wrap over scenario... The look you described and the pic you posted up is exactly what I'm after...

Like I said before too I don't intend to keep the car SO long as to get fed up of the Neffy n I have read somewhere that it can be removed just kinda tediously and the surface cleaned up with some other 3M product.

But the shine and appearance and price have really pulled me over to the Neffy side of things. Can't wait to see those comparison pics of the 3 items.

Thanks for this too! I can live with the difficulty if the end result looks better and like I said... the surfaces I want to wrap don't APPEAR soooo impossible to do.

Keep us updated on your progress!!

Hmmm, interesting you say that, as i have found the complete opposite.

Wasn't impressed with the Neffy sample i got, but the 3M seems much better.

Agreed.

Personally I think the glossy finish can make interiors look cheap, the matt finish definitely suits interiors better in my opinion.

Same project as Stu, but thought I'd post up my efforts, I may leave the silver round air vents if I cant get them off, as they tie in the air-con controls and hazzard switch, so dont look out of place. Gauge pod was the last thing I done.
I much prefer the matt finish to 3M, looks more natural from the real carbon rolls I have seen (F1 car building prog's)

I'd like to do the Mirror mounts, but haven't a clue how they come off, will have a closer look next weekend, spent all afternoon washing it, it went 3 weeks without.......sorry guys

Stu.... that looks well smart. Did you use the 3M stuff or Neffy? I want to do my electric window switches but can't get my head around how I'd do the 'welled' parts....

I did get a lot of the centre dash done today and I'm quite pleased with the end result. Pics to follow...

.....

Zooming in on the pics.... I'm guessing 3M

Yeah it's 3M, just lots of heat and stretch it into place and then trim with knife
