regardless of colour or anything else, if 5 blokes turned up to look at my car, i wouldnt let them near it, let alone drive it, it's just common sense really, you wouldnt stand a chance against them if you took them out and they tried it on, sorry to sound harsh but you want your head lookin at, sorry about your problems but they could have all been so easily avoided.

Its nothing new these stories, just more popular because they need the keys to nick a car or if its got ant-hijack, they hope you will turn it off before they drive off. A long time ago, many, many years, I almost had the same issue. A group of lads turned up to by my RSturbo. they didnt look old enough to ride a bike! What they didnt know is 8 mates of mine where in my house drinking, all rugby guys and and twice their size. A little bit of intmerdation and pointing at a transit van, a handfull of black bin liners and mentions of huddersfield moors did the trick lol. But it is hard sometimes as they turn up and one comes to the door, you dont see the others and then there is another 5 behind you as you get to the car.

Sorry to hear about your loss mate this is the sort of thing that really takes the p*** and gets my blood boiling. These days there are a lot of tyrekickers/test pilots that try it on with every seller with a fast motor, hopefully you will find a genuine buyer bud

I sold a hilux when the bloke came to buy it turned out he was a pikey he came with 4 other blokes in a land cruiser they walked round the truck and he just took a roll of notes out and payed the asking price. I was crapping myself was on my own and they were big lads just shows you can't generalize about people no mater who they are.

It's always difficult to ask for a large deposit just to test drive a car and most people will not want to turn up at a strangers house with a wadge of cash.

Also get proof of who they are - driving license and credit card etc - note down their driving license details.

Proof of insurance for them to drvie your car is a must as well these days - shows that they are serious buyers as well.

A lot of pratting around but might save problems later on.
Put yourself in the buyer's position. Say you was looking to buy an evo, would you leave the keys to your scoob in the hands of a stranger, ie the seller's neighbour or mate? I think not.

Imo in this day and age, the safest bet is to test drive the vehicle yourself with a mate in the passenger and the buyer in the back!

I'm so glad I didn't annoy you when I bought your car which now after 5k miles still hasn't missed a beat

I hope your including me as an asian friend in all this Fud?? lol

Fatscoobfella - i think your last statement i.e. if you don't like the sound of the person, then you put the phone down is understandable (post 47).....and if it's the Asian Race you do not trust then i suggest that the opinion should be kept to yourself.....after all the OP did not make any references to anyones Race!

Everyone should avoid deviating from the original issue here which is "Thieving TW@S" who are trying to nick our motors. Yes i own a scoob and yes i have also spent silly money on it....and silly amount of my own which is worth 1000's as i work on it.

Please do not ruin a serious thread which could be of benefit to others.

Baly

Wow, there are a lot of nightmare scenarios being aired on this thread. I'm seriously considering selling mine after seven years of Subaru ownership, but the current low values and apparent hassle of selling is really putting me off the idea. The way I see it, if I decide to sell, nobody will even be taken to the car until I've met with them elsewhere and I'm satisfied they look trustworthy. The viewing will be limited to the prospective buyer and one friend as backup. There will be no test-drive by the buyer, they will be taken out as a passenger only. On the other hand, the buyer can arrange for any examination of the car they wish - I'm satisfied that the car is mechanically faultless.

just one problem with battering them

they have the upper hand & know where this guy lives & you no nowt about them , not making them hard but once battered & gone home they will only come back like cowards in teh night with more mates & wreck the house & burn his car out ....

experience talking here & cost me lots inc having to move house , wasnt a car sale with aisians but a faling out with some travelers over a recovery truck sale , needless to say after the initial glory of me thinking ive got one over on them turned out to have caused me 1000% more grief & problems which dragged my family into it .....

its been 4 yrs now & things are still tense when i come across the 2 travellers in question as we use the same scrap metal yards.

leaving things to lie as we have both got each other back but ***** like them dont have things to loose or just dont care .

take it on the chin & learn a hard life lesson unfortuanatly. yes i no its a kick in the ***** but every cloud has a silver linning ......your next encounter may stop you getting done over on a bigger scale & you would save face . be positive

Enough of this racist clap trap.

The thread starter never mentioned anything of race or colour. So lets stick to that? OK?

Please excuse the mass vapage.

When you see a load of guys, its never good, if someone wants to buy, they want the least amount of people to know how much they paid.
I had a fool ring me, had a bad feeling and i went ahead and met him anyway, turned up at meeting point, there he was, 3 lads and 1 girl with him. looked around car and asked for test drive, i said no bother jump in passenger side, next thing they are all getting in back, i just said who the **** is buying the car? keys out of ignition and got out, told your man he a fookn time waister, he said im not.. i said no bother then show me the cash, couldnt produce it so i just laughd at him and drove off..
Few rules i have
Never ever meet first time at your home, only if i really have to will i bring them home and thats only when deal is done
And always say, i dont mind you bringing one person to look at car with you, but no more then that... if someone is genuine they will understand

I wouldnt even go by or trust using the above approach

My mate was selling his R6 years ago and a seemingly decent fella in a very nice Audi turned up by himself to view/buy it.

He left the keys to his nearly new Audi and obviously his car while he took the bike out for a test ride....He never came back!

Turns out the lad got caught from the police a while later, he was well known to them for doing this kind of thing and the Audi he left with my mate was stolen!

The lad got another slap on the wrist and let off, as per usual,

and my mate still never got his bike back and had to claim from his own insurance.

i have had large groups turn up at mine twice when i have sold a car now, but luckily ive picked up on them being dodgey on the phone beforehand so when they come to insp/ buy the veh in question not only do they have to deal with me holding i nice big crowbar with a lovelly sized crow foot on it, they also have do deal with my well trained rotweiller standing by my side. they didnt even stop they just took one look at me and my trusted then just bugger'd off, what would they have done if i was a helpless old fella? genuine buyers are never put of by cautious sellers after all if they are genuine they will want you to take them for a drive and tell them everything about the car and ask you to show them around and there is normally 1-3 of them tops. if they ever ask for keys or to drive just dont let them, no if's no but's...... if a large group turns up to look at your mota be on your guard right away and do not take the car keys out to them with you they will be size in you up as to wether to take the keys of you straight away or as you have unfortunately found out that once the car is running someone makes a dash for the drivers seat trust no one until the deal is sealed and delivered.
