You will feel so much better doing that than keeping it - I hope the bloke rewards your honesty .... I would be giving you Ł100 for your kids.

I would hope that 'most' people would return it - to those who wouldn't, well, words fail me.

Agreed. And just think, it was quite possibly a banker's wallet.

In that case maybe Jods should hand Ł10 around to everybody close and call it a dividend on their bank ownership.

Couldn't have been a bankers wallet, theres not enough money in it.

fair play to you though for being a decent bloke and returning it, not too many 'honest' folk around these days.

This shouldn't even be a debate IMO. Hand it in to the Police station.
I once found a ladies purse in my local village after this woman left it on her car roof and drove off......I saw it drop on the floor and picked it up. There was lot's of cash, cards and even her pin on a peice of paper but I'm not a thief or pippin' so I went to the Police station and handed it in.
A week later I got a Thank you card and five pounds as a finders reward. The feeling that gave me......well you can't buy that.

As an aside, if he is a Banker ...... take the money out, get some dog **** and put it in it, use the Credit Cards to smear it all over his front door and Audi TT ...... then smack him in the gob from me, and wish him a miserable New Year.

If he's a decent, regular guy - wish him all the breast!

I voted call and give them a chance if they don't get back to you that's different.

Make sure he can describe it before you hand it over!

If there are contact details in there I'd try and contact the owner to return it to them. I'd leave a voice message if possible, or send an email if that info was present. If there is a drivers licence in the wallet I might even consider posting it off to the person (photo ID licence with address on it, plus you're required to have the DL on you when you drive, so most people tend to keep them in the wallet all the time).

If there wasn't any way to contact them, I'd probably hand it in to the local cop shop. I do admit I would be tempted to grab the cash and bin it, or return it and fein ignorance when it comes to the money, but I'm not really that dishonest.

Or it could be that he hadn't thought to look for it as he didn't think it was lost. I've certainly left my wallet at home, gone out, come back and seen it on the table and thought "Oh, I thought it was in my coat", but as I hadn't needed it when out, I had simply not thought about it and thus didn't think I'd lost it or left it at home.

For the record.

When I handed in the purse I found the police did an inventory of the entire contents including counting the money then it was sealed at the desk with me watching and a receipt handed to me. It is then given to an officer to deal with. Apparently if there are passports lost they legally have to try and find the owner. If no passports and there is an obvious way to contact the rightful owner they do. However they don't investigate, just log into the system and wait for someone to call.

Thats what they told me anyway. Never even got a phone call to say it had been claimed and the owner said thank you.

Right result. Well done that man. I can't believe some people some people would just keep it with no thought of returning it. Presumably these same people would happily take a car if they found the owner had left the keys in the ignition. Finders keeps and all that. Shouldn't have left the keys there.

I am guessing that you are not in the UK, you don't need to carry a license here, most people have not even passed there driving test and still drive!

Good result.

Reminds me of an incident many many moons ago. Got a knock at the door from a guy who lived about 10 doors up... " you left your phone on the roof of your car "

"Ahh... I was wondering where that had gone... thanks!"

"yes, it fell off as you drove past"...

"oh"...

He then produced a small plastic bag that had my phone in it... that was in about 30 little bits..

"thanks"...

LMAO....

Oh, and as for him not knowing he had lost it..

I know of a guy who "lost" is car.

He forgot where he left it, and it was later found in a car park about 6 months later.

Well done Jods, congratulations for doing exactly the right thing. You can be proud of yourself for that.

I regret to see that some 10% of the poll admit to being prepared to act like thieves.

Of course anyone can click a poll and say what you think you would do......but in reality half those would just pocket the cash.
