Found a wallet

Dropped the other half off at the train station this morning.
As she got out of the car she saw a wallet lying on the floor. She tossed it into the car saying "Someone has dropped this"

It has several hundred pounds in it.

There are contact details (Mobile / email etc)

What would you do?

what would scooby do 17 December 2009 08:32 AM

Smack the bitch for getting your car seats dirty

alloy 17 December 2009 08:34 AM

Finders keepers .......

But what about karma......

Decisions, how much of a b@s*ard are you?

stevebt 17 December 2009 08:35 AM

How would you feel if you lost a wallet with £700 in it !

Bubba po 17 December 2009 08:37 AM

Not handing it in is a criminal offence, I think it's called "theft by finding".

Purely from a moral standpoint, I'd hand it in - you might get a legit reward, anyway.

If I found a tenner on the floor with no hope of knowing the owner, I'd keep it.

Tidgy 17 December 2009 08:38 AM

hand it in to the police, let them deal with if the number on it is the rightfull owner. if the person can't prove its theres you can claim it back in a few months anyway. Also how do you know the money wasn't to pay a load of bills or childrens christmas presents? taking the money is just stealing.

Tidgy 17 December 2009 08:39 AM

tenner on the floor is a bit different, even if you went through the correct legal methid, handing it in to police etc, no one would ever be able to prove it was theres so you'd have it returned to you after a set period

Will 17 December 2009 08:40 AM

I'd hand it in. Imagine losing that amount of cash at this time of year!!!!

rossyboy 17 December 2009 08:40 AM

I cant actually believe you're asking the question. What would you want someone to do if they'd found your wallet? Do unto others and all that...

Different if you find some cash on the floor as Bubba says. No real way of identifying who's it is.

alloy 17 December 2009 08:45 AM

What if its hard cold drug money though? Think about the service you'd be doing to your community in keeping that away from the real criminals:lol1::D

dpb 17 December 2009 08:48 AM

Du reckon its a bankers ?

Trout 17 December 2009 08:51 AM

Must be mine then ;)

HT04 17 December 2009 08:55 AM

id keep it. if you had that much cash in it, youd make sure you dont lose it. finders keepers as far as im concerned.

dan

MattW 17 December 2009 08:57 AM

Can't believe anyone would ask the question, call the guy and put him out of his misery.

dpb 17 December 2009 08:58 AM

At tha rate search for imcriminating evidence with a view to a little blackmail :D

Lisawrx 17 December 2009 09:02 AM

I would keep trying to contact the owner, that way you know it will go back to them for sure, rather than relying on the police.

You may get a reward for your honesty, but even not you would've done the right thing. I'd be gutted if someone had found my purse and decided to just keep it.

As said, different if it was some money on the ground, but you have a way to contact the owner.

SunnySideUp 17 December 2009 09:02 AM

No good will come of the money if you keep it - call it Karma, or whatever you like, but it will not do anything for you - just how it seems to be. Maybe it is because in the back of your mind you know you stole it?

Handing it back could well get you £100 reward ... that £100 would be spent by you with a clear mind - maybe even give it to the NSPCC for Xmas and help a child you have never met.

I know what I would do, but we all have our own choices.

Xx-IAN-xX 17 December 2009 09:05 AM

Do the right thing and hand it in. :thumb:

sonic93 17 December 2009 09:15 AM

if u would find it easyer give me half lol. ring the owner your self so u know they def get it back as police prob use it for x mas party lol. They should give u a good drink.

JDM_Stig 17 December 2009 09:18 AM

I lost a week wages while at work once( banks cocked up so boss gave us cash on the Friday morning),
working on the new local police station about 15 lads who I had worked with for a while and not one owned up tells you a lot about people today !
As said it could be for the kids Christmas gifts etc do the right thing,
If you keep it its always in the back of your mind, every time a similar story comes along you will have a nice story to tell as you did the right thing.

Coffin Dodger 17 December 2009 09:20 AM

Having lost my wallet on two different occasions, once because if fell out of my pocket, the other time was being pick-pocketed, knowing what a terrible feeling it is and all the hassle you have to go through cancelling cards and stuff I'd definitely call them.

Luckily the time mine fell out of my pocket some kid found it and his Mum rang me. I was very grateful to them and turned up with a big box of chocs. for the finder in return for my wallet.

Just put yourself in the same situation and you wouldn't think twice about trying to contact the owner.

HT04 17 December 2009 09:22 AM

i still say keep it. if you had hundreds of pounds in your wallet, you make sure you know where it is and dont lose it. unless it belongs to a millionaire who classes hundreds of pounds as loose change.

keep it. ! . if the money was that important to him/her, then they should keep it safe.

I found a purse a few weeks ago with 3 passports in and 300ish of cash. Never tempted to keep for a second, took to the local station and handed it all in.

Karma has a funny way of coming back to haunt you.

Are you serious? Think about the answer before posting please.

Matt, there are people in this world that would take the damned thing out of your pocket if you gave them half the chance - sometimes with a broken jaw or a stab wound for good measure. Mere dishonesty doesn't surprise me in the least. :(

Hanley 17 December 2009 09:50 AM

Hand it in mate, as a few people have already said the guy could have been going shopping to buy his kids christmas presents...how would you feel if you lost your wallet and someone kept it?

I'd ring the owner and hand it back without a second thought.

Christmas spirit and all that :)

There is no continuity between your statement and your location :D

subaruturbo_18 17 December 2009 10:02 AM

this is a bit cheesey, But imagine if it belongs to a father of a working class family, who was at the station as he was on his way to go christmas shopping for his kids. Imagine the feelings he'd have when he realised he'd lost it. Then imagine the warm feeling you'd have knowing you gave it back and 'saved' his christmas..

Then again imagine you returned it to the person and it was some scummy drug dealer, you hand it over, the shrug off a thank you then slam the door shut.

Choices choices.

StickyMicky 17 December 2009 10:03 AM

LOL @ this thread

Lets be honest, the vast majority of British people would keep it.
You should have added a better poll, that would have been interesting as the vast majority of the people on the internet would never say "ohh i would keep it" :lol1: because they can not be arsed with a flame session.

The facts are IMHO if the majority of people in this country, think they can get away with some free cash and nobody will find out, they will do it.

Found a few wallets at work, usually down by the self service vac bunkers, punters always come back for them.
Stuff the punters never seam to come back for.

Floor Mats
Foot Pumps
Vacuum Cleaner
Parcel Shelf (more then one)
Steering Wheel locks
Various amounts of pound coins left on top of the vac machine
Various car cleaning products
Clothes
Boot Mats
Wheel Trims

StickyMicky 17 December 2009 10:05 AM

Also this reminds me of the time i lost my wallet :(
Called into the local police station and they could not have been less interested
