Man saves family from attackers and ends up going to jail.
Unfortunately, all that this case would seem to suggest, is that if you f*ck with the criminal justice system, we will f*ck you over.
But if you are a criminal (fifty times
)- we don't care.
Let's be realistic about this.
The criminal justice system is not going to be improved.
Maybe if No 10 had been burgled 50 times it might have been.

I agree that the punishment side of things leaves a lot to be desired - and yes, most of the crime will be committed by about 5% of the population (these will be the repeat offenders etc). You could ask any police force to supply a list of their top offenders (5%) in the area and get rid of them. The crime will plummet. I've had experiences of putting away just one person for a spell inside will have a significant reduction in crime in an area. Problem is, they get back out and return to their old ways. The only solution is to get rid of them – drop them off in Somalia or Afghanistan for a well earned holiday.
Now that's an idea, after three strikes it's in the army and off to a hot spot, the worry of this would be quite a deterrent, also if they did go the ones that came back would have been taught a little army discipline. Star idea...........
I'm pretty sure that currently serving members of the armed forces would not approve of working alongside scumbags, even if they are used as disposable IED detectors.
Who says they have to work with the armed forces - just drop them off. Holiday if you like paid for by the social. If that's a bit extreme, why not set a settlement up on one of our islands. We must have loads off the coast of the UK where we can let them loose.
It would solve our immigration problem; we could have a 'one in one out' system

Have you noticed the sort of penalties that get handed out to violent criminals these days. Don't you think that violence and threats liike that deserve a significant and unpleasant punishment to deter, that is DETER crims from continuing to attack innocent people and cause them serious injury and abject fear at times?
Don't you think that when people see such wishy washy sentences that mean nothing to the crims that people feel they have to do their bit instead to try to persuade the crims to think twice next time?
Or do you join the rest of the PC Plonkers who think that no one should be punished for committing a crime and that it is not really their fault that they do it?
Whats the answer Martin?

Let's see what these thugs/murderers/robbers get ......
BBC News - Three guilty of post office murder
Whatever they get, half it and think whether immediate justice should have been delivered by the community .... wiping them off the face of the earth.
No-one asks to be robbed, to be terrified, to be humiliated ..... the community, if it can, should deliver it's verdict upon the guilty!

It's already been done, to Australia. Besides, they'll only come back as IT contractors and take all our jobs!! What we need is Running Man game show!!

At the end of the day, what has this case served? Has it deterred the criminal from committing burglary or deterred innocent people from defending their own home and family?

I can’t understand why it’s so difficult to get that just because you don’t applaud someone smashing someone elses skull in, doesn’t mean that you feel that criminals are really the victims. These are far from being mutually exclusive positions. Hence my response to Pete which you’ve (not for the first time) chosen to misinterpret.
Of course I could just turn complex and difficult issues into, cheap simplistic slogans, but then you’d have nothing to do
The guy deserved to go to jail of course, as he went beyond just protecting himself, his family and his property when he hunted the criminal down like a dog. A month or two would have been more than enough time though.
I work my *** off all year to pay my mortgage and fill my home with comforts for my wife and kids, so when some **** decides he wants to come in and help himself im afraid all the rules go out the window. Whatever it takes is my reasonable force.
This case is like Tony martin all over again
Im afraid the intruder got exactly what he deserved, in fact he maybe got off lightly.

Les- why ask me, I’ve made views on the need to toughen up our criminal justice system damn clear on various threads?

Of course I dont advocate deliberately doing permananent damage to anyone, but if I or my family are being attacked, especially being threatened with death, then the attacker can expect a very positive reaction in our defence and if he gets hurt-whose fault is that?
You missed the nub of my argument above-was that deliberate too?
Les
Or a bit of community service perhaps.
