Connect your PS3 via HDMI. Only way to get full HD audio if the amp supports it.

Connect your Sky via optical to get 5.1 Dolby digital. connecting via HDMI for audio if you have a 5.1 setup is just stupid IMO.

As for Salsa's setup I wouldn't be surprised if you were tempted to get a bigger TV. that wall looks perfect for mounting a plasma.

Note that the Q 1000-series is v.cheap at moment because it's being replaced by 2000-series. Buy now whilst stocks last. I have 1050i floorstanders, 1000ci and QAV rears running on a Denon 3805, sounds great.

Films and the football are generally in DD.

Optical from sky, HDMI from the PS3 is the way to go.

Each to their own and all that, but optical from sky box isn't worth the effort

what effort?!

Why would you have a 5.1 setup and not want to use the Dolby surround sound when available?

The effort of having to
1. Spend the money on an optical cable.
2. Connect the cable to sky box and amp (which might be a bit of a pain on its own)
3. Configure the amp to use optical sound instead of hdmi sound

I have a denon 1910 amp - I set it to use Dolby Pro Logic IIx when viewing sky.

Dear me... how do you find the effort to get out of bed on a morning?!

Cable £5, plug in cable at both devices, go to amp menus, audio in (Optical). done.

Up to you but I think your advice is poor and lazy. why spend all that money on the amp and speakers and not try get the best from them?

Because pretty much **** all is broadcast in DD

And "plug in cable at both devices"
I assume you can get at the back of your equipment easily

Personally I can't and it means pulling both boxes out far enough to "see" what you're doing

Do you have sky movies? If so then all new films and most others are broadcast in DD. All the live sport tends to be as well.

I cant get to the back of my box and amp that easily but it would take me 5 mins to do it and make it all tidy again. Hardly a chore to get the best out of your home AV equipment IMO.

If I wanted to watch freeview (built in to TV) what should I do bai?

Either do i anymore but its still nice to have the ability to have 5.1 during documentaries.

Your TV will most likely have an Optical out for the Freeview audio. If you've used up your quota of Opticals on the Denon another option is the use the Second scart output of the TV and run a Scart to 2 phono cable into the Amplifier.

remember to check your sky box is outputting the audio as DD as well.

Thanks James - I've still got a spare optical after SKY.

STi wanna Subaru - Its already set to DD

Infact when I first set it up I used optical, but never once found something in DD
I had to do something recently with the sky box and the optical cable came out - I couldn't be bothered pulling it out and reconnecting the thing again

Since starting back in Richies, i've actually dusted off alot of my audio equipment with renewed interest! I need a new Amp and Blu-ray player though. My speakers should last another 5 or 10 years thou!

Ah the call centre, now as you know i'm not racist but my line seemed to be the Pakistani Hotline and after a week off, coming back to my first call with Muhammid threw me over the edge!

Luckily whilst picking up my missus at Castle Court the AM of Richies asked me to do a bit of temporary work for them over crimbo as a sales person. I declined as I don't want to do sales anymore, so somehow i've ended up doing the stockroom and wrapping boxes! I am the shop bitch!

If you're ever in please don't mistake me for the other James, he's an absolute tool!

Hi my Bose is the Lifestyle 48, plus extra amps for the other rooms. Sky HD does broadcast in dolby quite a lot of the time as the Bose displays what format is playing and it's showing Dolby 5.1 lots of the time. The reason I want the PS3 also optical is for when watching Bluray movies and wanting Dolby Surround sound. HDMI just will not support it.

Thats what I think anyhow....... It seems from other posters that the non Dolby HDMI seems right.

Your Lifestyle 48 system only has one Optical if i'm correct and 2 Coaxial? If so something like this Optical to Coaxial Digital Audio Convertor : Connect! - Digital Audio : Maplin will covert your Optical to a Coaxial and bingo!

I don't think you need to spend loads on them, I paid about 9.99 from Wilkos.

I bought my HDMi's from this company on Ebay
eBay.co.uk Shop: Search results for hdcable.

I also have paid £30 for HDMi cable (half price at Currys) but can't tell any difference from the £16 one I bought from Wilkos or the ones I got from Ebay.

As long as you get the 1.3b versions

Been out looking at some stuff this weekend.

Looking at going with the Denon 1910 coupled with the Q Acoustic 2000 Cinema 5.1 in Gloss black.
