Gary - your website is still not using SSL.
The quote details entry form is http://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/get-a...php?view=step1

Note the http and not https.
I bet if you sort that out it will give people more confidence to enter their details.

The pop up box you fill your details in has a Http:// address not a Https:// The 's' is for secure (encrypted connection). You should also get a padlock at the bottom or top of the screen. But as it's a pop up without borders and address bar you can't check it unless you have some knowledge of web design or at least a slightly advanced knowledge than the average surfer, and a bit of paranoia helps.

The address of the pop up form is:
http://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/quote/

I tried
https://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/quote/
and found there is a secure form so the link is wrong.

But I got this message from the secure form:
The site's security certificate has expired!
You attempted to reach www.keithmichaels.co.uk, but the server presented an expired certificate. No information is available to indicate whether that certificate has been compromised since its expiry. This means that Google Chrome cannot guarantee that you are communicating with www.keithmichaels.co.uk and not an attacker. You should not proceed.

It looks like someone may have put the form unsecured so they avoided this error, not a good idea.

I hope fixing your website will get me a big discount

To all readers who are wondering about Keith Michaels.

I ended up phoning Keith Michaels in the end (got put through to Gary in seconds) and saved £170. He needed to phone me back and did so within 10 mins.

10 mins for £170 - yes please!

Cheers Gary. If everything goes well in 12 months I will be getting a quote again next year

Guys,

I seem to be reading a lot of unfair complaints that Gary is difficult to get hold of. From experience, at times that is the case. However, this is only serves as testament to how busy he is sometimes due to the fact that for Subaru/modified insurance, he's the man to get the deal done.

Trust me, when you get through it's well worth the wait.

He sorted me out yesterday for my policy which is up for renewal on the 16.1.12, all mods declared and saved me £200 in comparison to the quote I got from Sky & £25 cheaper than Performance Direct. My current insurer slapped me with a £750 excess and Gary has got it down to £350... My currrent insurer hiked my permium up by 100% when there have been no changes in my circumstances.

I'm 39 next month, max no claims, driving since I was 17, married owned the car 3 years etc. and they've treated me like I've only just passed my driving test; so it's no suprise that the've lost my business.

If you're having trouble getting hold of him, don't take it personally, some patience may be required.

Many thanks Gary, a pleasure doing business with you

Just got off the phone with Gary and he has done me a great deal. Saved me £450 off my renewal with Aviva and he was £750 cheaper than Adrian Flux!
A-Plan came close but Gary was £150 less than them.
Personally I had no problems getting hold of him and it was pleasure doing business with him.

Cheers fella

After a long three years away from any performance vehicles (Setup a new business and running a new VW Transporter) and effectively having my NCB of 7yrs tied up in my van policy, I thought it was going to be impossible to get back into a proper car, even as a weekend toy!

Called a couple of other companies and they couldn't help. Spoke to Jeremy at KM as he used to sort my policies when I had my Intergrale, Scooby and Evo.
He said because I was basically starting a fresh with effectively no NCB it was going to be pretty expensive.
I am looking at getting a 1999 RB5 by the way, and he came back with what I think was a very reasonable £1500 considering my circumstances. Granted at 33 I thought it would be lower, but I do see why it's not.
I havent got any recent proof of high performance cars even though I drove group 18-20 cars for 7yrs, which again I guess is fair enough.

At the end of the day, I know after 12 months of paying a premium like that, I know from experience that these guys will have that policy cut in half on renewal.

All in all, I am now actually looking for an RB5 so I will be speaking to you soon KM Insurance!!

I was put through to Jeremy as he used to look after my cars in years gone by, I think it might have been Gary that put me through to him Not sure though.
Either way, nobody else wants to insure me for less than £2.5k (Even had quotes online for £9810), and I thought that was a good starting point considering my situation

Well I tried all afternoon to get hold Gary,after 4 calls and leaving my number twice I gave up. Stressed that it was urgent and that I was collecting the new car in the morning, but still no joy. Shame, as I would have liked a quote and maybe saved a few quid.

Unfortunately today was the day from hell!

It's always manic after a weekend, and a bank holiday weekend makes it twice as bad, as everyone seems to leave everything to the last minute.

I hope to be back to normal by tomorrow afternoon (fingers crossed)

Sorry you weren't able to get through

i didnt know what car i was getting till Sat when i found it heh so had to leave it till the last minute. ;(
Didnt realise you'd be so busy all day so that i couldnt get my car changed on the policy :/ ended up having to get another temp day cover to get the car home from work today after using a 2 day temp cover sun to collect it and drive it back from a mates in the midlands.

hopefully i'll get a nice refund due to the difference in premium from a Scoob STI to a Focus St170 which'll offset the faffing
be even nicer if i got an extra 28quid off to cover the temp day cover from today heh

if i cant get the car swapped by thursday morning ill be in dire straits mind

Yeah that's fine, pm me your number and i'll give you a call.

The ST will be cheaper, so you'll get a refund.

I've swapped cars with Mrs Moley recently so have gone from driving the STI everyday to a Fiesta ST.
The Fiesta is almost as much fun to drive, but uses less than half the petrol the Impreza does, so you'll still certainly have fun.... and save money

Sorry to say I had to renew with Admiral after 3 phone messages and a message left with colleagues got no response from you Moley
Dunno if you could have beaten the price, but I was left with days to sort it and after all the other brokers couldn't beat my admiral bartered down price I had to take the plunge and just buy it.

Would a PM have been better?

Hi Gary

the issue with the website can quite easily resolved

Basically all your links on your website point to http not https

e.g.your "get a quote function" points to "http://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/get-a-quote/index.php?view=step1"

Simply changing this to "https://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/get-a-quote/index.php?view=step1" would help the majority of people accessing the quote page from the main page

Ideally though you should force the HTTPS connection, the snippet of code beneath (or a variation of it) will ensure that the page is secure all the time

Cheers

TB

Force Redirect to SSL with PHP
The public domain code snippet below shows you how to forcibly redirect a web page to SSL using PHP, if you require the page to be SSL encrypted.

The code below works best on Apache web server. On IIS, you may need to use different variables from $_SERVER. Although the 301 header is optional, you may want to use it for search engine friendliness, as described in Permanent Redirect with HTTP 301

// If page requires SSL, and we're not in SSL mode,
// redirect to the SSL version of the page
if($requireSSL && $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] != 443) {
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: https://".$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);
exit();
}
Variation on the above.

if($_SERVER["HTTPS"] != "on") {
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: https://" . $_SERVER["SERVER_NAME"] . $_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"]);
exit();
