Agreed a superb piece of film making.

Sharlto Copley (main character) puts in a magnificent performance, all the more impressive as its his first acting role. I think I read somewhere that he is a producer and special effects guy by trade. for me personally his acting was very convicing and leagues better then performances ive seen from the supposed cream of hollywood this year.

A lot of his dialogue was supposedly improvised, much to the amusement of my South African girlfriend who said he was using plenty of SA slang to include the equivalent of our C word lol.

One of the most original films Ive seen in a long time also and thoroughly reccomend it.

Also done on a budget of 30 million which is impressive and a testimony that some serious thought and planning went into this movie instead of just throwing hundreds of millions at it Michael Bay style.

Watched in on Sunday and it's the best film I've seen for a long time.

I empathised with the characters, enjoyed the fact that it wasn't a Hollywood ending and loved the weapons - straight out of DOOM or Duke Nukem

Can't wait for District 10

I saw it on Monday. Quite enjoyed it. It did remind me of every Sith Ifricaan I've ever met as they always used the words "Fock" or "focking" in every senence

Good effects and cool weapons and I too was glad that it didn't have the typical Hollywood ending.

I watched it last night and wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it, as I'm not a fan of cgi. To my suprise there wasn't a lot of obvious cgi. I think, like said above, live action effects. Anyhow I really enjoyed it, the end was nice change from the usuall Hollywood rubish. I'd highly recomend it, one of the best films of the year

Just for the genius reviewers earlier on in the thread... It's South African, not American. Hollywood didn't come anywhere near it. Made on a shoestring, no big names just a decent story, good acting and pretty fair CGI.

Obviously the latter points are merely my opinion, but the rest is fact. And considering that the OP asked for opinions from people who'd seen it I'm guessing that the folk who didn't realise it wasn't American didn't qualify. Or are really crap at working out accents...

I enjoyed it.

Hmm, I don't get why people like this film. Maybe I just approached it from the wrong angle and just expected something else.

For me, the acting was terrible, characters were wooden and fake. The CGI was reasonably well done, but nothing special. As for the actual storyline, none of it made any sort of logical sense to me.

The weapons were pretty cool, and I enjoyed watching the bits of the film that had the ship in That was about it....

I enjoyed it but it is sci-fi, I think too many people expect it to be some sort of masterpiece. It's a great B movie, nothing more nothing less.

Liked it, bit different, (although some familiar themes), and found I could really get into it. Think starship troopers with more plot interest and less shooting

Very good film IMO. I can understand why some don't like it but I would say its the best film I've watched this year.

It even succeeds Watchmen which I had issues with - D9 was excellent and hope D10 is just as good.

Good god, I just started a thread as I hadn't seen one on this film, now you can't make someone else like a film they don't but suggesting that anyone who liked it is dim seems a bit off, I am not sure what my IQ is but I enjoyed the film but am after suggestions as to what to watch that will make me look more intelligent.

Sometimes smart people like to watch dumb films, sometimes when you have been using your brain you want a film where you can give it a rest, exploding helicopters and talking dogs, not that I thought this was that dumb, it wasn't really cerebral and their were a few points it was trying to make and then seemed to back off but it was really entertaining.

My kind of thing I suppose but then I don't feel the need to prove my intellect, I will leave that to those suffering art house cinema to try and impress others, mainstream cinema is usually dissapointing if you are looking to be enlightened or challenged.

I wasn't sure at the beginning of the film whether I was going to like it or not. I do not like blood and guts in films, so I was fully ready to be grossed out, however, the blood seemed to be there for the story, not just to be shocking.

A really thought-provoking film which I would recommend.

Great film, love the bit when the main character is trying to be nice to the young alien ("the little fellow") only for him to lose his rag and call him a "fookin' prawn"

I am a fan !
