Oh and if its any help I have a PX80, PS3. Got freeview in the tv so no box, may get sky at some point and possibly a wii when they're like £50
. Wasn't shore if it would be best to get a Sony AV for the PS3 but been told the quality of the Denon more than makes up for matching tech.

OK, talked to a guy in creative audio.
He says that Onkyo do run quite hot and they definately have more of those back with faults than Denon.
He also says that they can't ship Denon and you must collect from the shop.
He seemed to give me genuine advice on various setups including a yamaha RXV765

WARNING RANT TIME!!!!
What a fffffffeckin joke! Last time I was in the shop the guy goes" oh, I have a 1909 in the back, only been used as a demo in-store" hence the price he was going to let me have it for. Not only do I find Sevenoaks selling three other units of the same model, ex display for £50 less but when I go to pick it up today, I'm told the one I was showed was actually a customers who had returned it thinking there was a problem. OK there is apparently no problem with it but, he still has the one they lent him, 5 weeks ago! five weeks! basically forget £50 I'd only consider maybe 300 now, thinking about it, no, if I wanted a second hand one I wouldn't go to a flippin shop, I'd get it online. All one of the guys could say(the one I spoke to to start with) was sorry but at the 378 price he still reckoned some one would have it....well good bloomin luck to whatever fool pays that for it!.
1610 for me now then...and not from Sevenoaks.
..........ok rant over
Urban I think the four digit numbers are meant to be shop models only, Denon give a 2 year guarantee too if you buy in a shop.
I have heard Yamaha mentioned a lot online, from my understanding its a good unit if you want to play a lot of music as well as films, depends on what you want the AV for, for me its prob about 50% film, 40% game, and only 10% for music.

I use the older Yamaha 761 and can highly recomend the Yamaha amps, works well for music and films, can switch to stereo output over 2 speakers I use for music with a seperate wired 5.1 setup as well. Very flexible. I have the optional Ipod dock, works well with full control and display on the amp. The new 765 would be my current choice.
**** me, thats another one for the pot now
Creative audio recommended that amp to me yesterday together with an MJ Acoustics speaker setup.
Up until right now I had my mind made up on a Denon 1610 with a Q Acoustics speaker setup
However.................am I about to change my mind and why is this so fcukin difficult in the first place
Denon can't be bought mail order - dealers are forbidden to ship them?
Seems daft to me - creative audio have what I want and I want to buy it now but they can't sell it to me.
Only place in belfast I know of is Richer sounds, but they're more expensive (typical of N.Ireland - everybody wants you to buy locally but it always ends up with them being much more expensive
) AND they have to order the speakers in because they've no stock

I've taken the plunge and went for a Denon 1910 with a Q Acoustics 1010i speaker setup
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Was torn between the Denon 1910 and a Yamaha RXV765

Highly recommend Band of Brothers blue ray to try out your new toy, it uses the latest master audio. Amazing sound and picture quality.
Amazing the difference good surround makes to the picture, I know its not effecting the actual image, but when you have good quality sound matching with what's happening on the screen, everything seems more three dimensional some how?. Totally puts my old Sherwood to shame.
Glad to hear you got one in the end, enjoy.
Really - dont bother with auto setup - even for a newbie?
Don't suppose you've got a spare minute or whatever to do me a setup guide or something?
Looking forward to it - in fact busting my gut to get it, can't wait - like a kid at Christmas, except I'm far from being a kid

I had a New Denon 1706 running my Monitor Audio's and found it quite "flat" so when I saw an AVC A1D come up 2nd hand for £400 I snapped it up and the difference in sound was like night and day.
The only downside is no HDMI switching..but I've not got HD anyway.
