I have just seen the solution how to put this newer rack into older models (w/o changing the crossmember!), so please PM if anyone interested for a good deal.
You have 3 options and can make it work fairly easily:
More expensive option
1. Changing the Crossmember.
Intermediate option
2. Swapping the internals of this item with yours. Basically, your housing will hold the internals of this item. However, you can put your internals straight into this 05 housing and have an extra rack available for sale.
Cheapest option
3. Fabricating a special mounting kit (maybe q-rack guys can help)

I just sold 2 direct fit MY04 Spec-C racks, if you read back this topic!
I do not think it is that much of a hustle to get special mounts for about 30 GBP. You will NOT notice the difference!
Also, if you talk to any shop in the UK they swap the internals quite easily for not so much money (simple rack and pinion swap), plus you can keep your old rack to sell, if you assemble it with your parts, which would cover all your trouble costs!
