Well said.
Come on you lazy bum fix it.

If you maybe spent less time on your PC and got your hands dirty it would have been fixed by now.

Its not my hands thats the problem its my bank account - I have just paid off two debts in the last month and I am completely skint! That's why I was trying to find out what it is and if I am damaging the car driving it until I have the money to get it sorted.

Thanks for all the advice - I do appreciate it.

Rikki,

ring a dealer and ask:-

"Hello, could you tell me how much it would cost me to have my rocker cover gasket replaced"

They'll probably respond with a price.

I just had mine changed and from the pictures it looked in the same state as yours. Circa £80

Rikki...

I'd get this checked out if you can, I have the same symptoms with smoke coming from down the front right corner of the engine on my 95 WRX.

I had the car in for a service and I told them then that the power steering was a bit noisy at low speeds especially when stationary. The conclusion was that my power steering pump is on the way out, pressure release valve they said..

My Power Steering Fluid was going down and in one week I'd used a litre to keep topping it up, I've been driving the car gently since and only when I need to. I was told to check the O ring seal between the fluid reservoir and the power steering pump as this had failed on a friends car and his caught fire at Donnington, O.K. now. I checked this seal after draining the fluid, and used some gasket sealant for a good seal. I'm still having the same problem as before and the leak seems to be coming from behind the belt covers on the front offside of the engine and dripping onto the heat shield below.

I've rang the garage and booked her in to get this sorted, I'm selling the car and I'd rather the peace of mind that it was fixed than pass this onto someone else who may suffer because of my laziness.

Cheers

O.M.

p.s. > take what Pete Croney said seriously mate !!!!!

OM

Thanks very much - the power steering is a little noisy lately and it has been whining/screeching a little when cold. I know Dave (Fairhurst), who posted on page 1, had his go so maybe this is what it is.

I have sent Pete an email but he is in Spain I think. Will try and book it in when he is back.
