Cool

Guys tell me WHAT ABOUT and WHY should I apologise to him?

Because it was not Mark who made the remark about Luxemburg. So you are accusing the wrong person. How's that for a reason ?

You know, on a BBS, the user name next to a post defines who made the post. Is that a difficult concept to grasp ? Noooo, good lad, I thought so...

How much clearer do you want this ?
Do you want a drawing ? Hei elei kuck elei ?

Sheesh you are dim.

Do you want a link ?

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...=75937&Page=11

If you hoover your mouse over this, you see it change color ... that means you can go "clickety click" on it... now do that, take a deep breath, and read that page. It will contain the comment that offended you. Now have a looksee if it was posted by Mark.

See ! Easy huh !

If you need any more help with this, let me know.

LOL

I would suggest that any form of sexism / racism or any discrimination should not be tollerated. The difficulty is what appears to be a joke to one person might be taken differently to a third party. I recall taking great offence to a comment made by someone who frequently posts here and has on this thread. I could have reacted and made a big deal but concluded I had misinterpreted the meaning of his words.

The trouble with emails/ bulletin boards is that unless you choose your words very carefully it is all too easy to read them wrongly. That said any blatant racist / homophobic comments should result in the poster being removed.

In a relativley civilised society I would hope none of us would tollerate bigots and would make some effort to stamp out this unacceptable behaviour regardless of our desire to maintain freedom of speech.

Alberick,

The reason you were asked to apologise to me, was that I DIDN'T MAKE THE COMMENT, IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE !!!!!!!

The geographical comment was followed by a it was a JOKE, and directed towards Theo, who lives in Belgium !!!!!!

I accept that I have a lot to learn, and I know there are MANY people out there that know far more than I. I also know that both you, and 370, DON'T come into that catagory.

I, like most people with "some" intelligence, LEARN, because we LISTEN to lots of OTHER peoples opinions. We then make out judgements based on ALL the informaton.

You make assumptions that the ONLY CAPABLE tuners are in Japan, and that NO ONE in the UK, or even Europe have the ability to even equal their skills. YOU ARE WRONG.

If you took your blinkers off, and actually found out just what was being achieved in the UK, Europe, Australia, and the USA, you would know that 340bhp was not only common place, but easily achievable.

YOU ARE A FOOLISH PERSON, direct enough for you ???

Mark.

Hey Mr. EVIL,

Phew gotta admit I did it but it wasn't easy, just by pointing the pointer to the link, whew I'm still exhausted!!
But, my mouse didn't change color by hoovering over the link, it remained white and still is, did I do something wrong?
Anyway, you play a good role here in asking others to apologise, good man, keep up the good work!!
But, don't get me wrong it didn't offend me at all, I'm just having some fun here stirring people up, guess I'm too old to be upset by a bunch of candy-a$$es.

Ok, Evil, t'was nice to have a small talk with you, probaly I will see you at the Tour of Luxembourg Rallye with the Lux Impreza gang?

Having said that, my apologies go to Mark, as indeed with all those people I thought that this comment came from him.

And before any more comments like "stupid, ignorant, etc" arise, don't forget was it was all about, the topic is "I only buy and trust Japanese products whatever it is for my car, TV, DVD's Video recorders, car hifi, game consoles, PC's, toys, dogfood or whatever you may think of...".
In fact, even my wife is japanese, and having been to Japan more times that most of you dream of, I KNOW EXACTLY why I trust them more than I will trust any other, nothing against CraigH or whoever believes he's a Scooby veteran (not wanting to say that he does not know anything), but sorry guys you're just not in the same league than them!

Alberick,

No.

Do you know what's being achieved in the UK ? YES or NO ?

The problem is, you think, I don't think the Japanese are good tuners, THEY ARE. BUT, you also think no one else can achieve the same as them.......This is WRONG.

This will go nowhere, because you are too blinkered,

Mark.

I will stand up and qiute happily take responsability fo r the comment about people from Luxembourg. But where you get the racism thing from I just do not know. There was no recism implied in any way whatsoever. Are you now saying that I or anyone else for that matter should be denied a right to form an opinion of someone (remember that this is my opinion and that of a few people I know of)

Finally apologhies to anyone who was accused of this "crime". I take full responsability for the qoute and will stand by it.

Oh one last thing - SB370 slagged Craig off for having a C**P German motor, does this not seem to lie in the same trouble spot as my quote? (Jap is good, German is C**P!)

Jees this stuffs a bit trying.

Like Pete said it`s Si`s board n all that, an yeah there is no room in a modern society for racism n all that.
Here`s the catch, everything in communication is open to the receivers interpretation. I for one am still a relative newby on the board (only been here a couple of years) but can say that when the ugly stuff rears it`s head it is dealt with very quickly and effectively.
What we don`t want is to be dictated to by sandal wearing, tree hugging, do gooders that are oh so PC. Otherwise we will loose some of the character of the forum. IMHO the board runs well without censorship and if the aforementioned peebs get their foot in the door thats it the ball is burst As has been said what offends one may not offend another, so c`mon peebs before blurtin out on the board, how about reading the articles a few times ? or even mail the sender 2 confirm u r interpretation ?

BTW no offence intended to any1 who wears sandals, hugs trees,
does good or is PC. Jus stay outta my face cos i got a right to an opinion as well

Keep up the good work Si

Pete

R19KET,

Ok, no, you've never been to Japan, so that finishes our conversation then.
I traveled to more places than you'll ever dream of, so know probably more what has ben achieved in any country than you.
Yes, I know what has been achieved in the UK. As I said tons of backyard tuners arose with the import trend, that want a big piece of the cake and some even going so far to call themselves "the best tuning company in the world".

So, that's it, I'm completely on my own here as BlowDog said.
So, indeed a Scoobysport exhaust f.example is better made than a Blitz......... LOL

Alberick,

You've not mentioned ONE company, that either I, or anyone I know, would concider a "serious" tuner.

These companies cater for a different market, and some of them come into the "bolt on" catagory anyway.

If you really want to know what's going on, you've got to speak to the right people........

Surely censorship is not the way forward unless the bulletin board is itself at risk from a legal perspective (in which case put a big disclaimer in place on entry).

I haven't seen anything racist on here (no idea what the chap from Luxemnburg is on about!) and self policing appears to work very effectively with people being castigated or outed for inappropriate behaviour.

Tell us what prompted this post and where you're coming from?

There seems to be a very, very fine line these days, as said by somone, a joke comment between two people who know each other can be seen by a 3rd party as being a very racist comment, and thus uproar ensues.

If the comment was a joke then i'm sure Simon would, when emailed reinstate the person, provided they were a tad more careful in future.

The bbs is great, and I don't want to loose it, but one too many comments on many varied but possible explosive subjects could see it close, which none of us want.

Simon and the rest of the team have worked hard to get the bbs to where it is.

It is sad that a small minority are being rather silly.

maybe now is the time to consider a fee based subscription for scoobynet? maybe fiver a year? viewing free, but replying or posting new topics would require the fee to be paid. Maybe have one totally free forum for 'guests' to post in without fee, but have this forum ruthlessly moderated to strip out any dross. I'd be more than happy to help out and moderate such a forum.

anyway, my 5 cents worth.

Racism is bad in any instance, but what is worse are those who are considered the common target for racism using it to their advantage..

Thus any blanket ban on racism permits some to play the race card to their benefit..

Mr S. De Banke
I am a foreigner (whatever that means over the net!). I got immense help in tech forums by the likes of Mr Rawle and Pat to name a few.
I always find that forums are NOT for "arguing" rather they are better suited to factual exchange and thesis-like evaluations. Thats why I value most the tech (and wanted/for sale ) sections.
My view is that what really annoys internet bullies/arrogant sob s etc is contempt. Do not make a fuss about nothing. Ignore them they always go away to find negreener pastures to graze

Good grief

When I read that the thread involved Alberick, I thought... wow we may see a thread involving him that doesn't slag off my company. Alas no.

But can someone confirm...

Was there a concern of racism because someone questioned the intelligence of people from Luxembourg, or because Alberick always rubbishes British tuning companies?

Either way, I don't consider this racism, just ignorance. EG If I challenged Alberick's views by asking him where Prodrive and Ralliart were based, would that be racist? I would hope not, even if the answers were "multiple choice".

I have found 99.9997743% of the population of Luxembourg (est 442,972 in 2001) to be intelligent, informed, witty, friendly people of good character.

Unhappy

Step 1 - SDB posts a perfectly rational anti-racist statement
Step 2 - a few people post in agreement
Step 3 - a few more people hijack the thread as an excuse to perpetuate yet another pointless slanging match that would either be better left alone or fought out privately.

All excellent examples of tolerance, co-existence, mutual respect and understanding - not. Its enough to make you weep.

carism / racism - seen many more examples of the former, hardly any of the latter.

n0va n0bh**ds, w***ing n0va drivers, max flower p***ies, TT tw**s etc.

Whilst being fun, it can lead to the more serious mud slinging etc. when some can't keep it funny and have to resort to more personal insults.

I'm not innocent of carism, no-one here is. Its fun!

However subscription is a killer blow to a forum IMHO

Ok, Jean la Gaufre errrr Evil,

I will lookout for you at the "Luxemborg rallye", it will be easy you can easily spot me (192 cm tall so you easy gotta see my ugly head).
And then, you can explain me how you do this trick with the mouse changing color....well, on second thought no, just knowing that somebody as low level as you, who can only insult people, drives an Impreza without having a clue where it comes from and the spirit behind the whole thing (ask your mates at EFJIE, the ultimate in belgian backyard Impreza tuning knowledge), would make me sell my Impreza.

Pete, ohhhhhhhhh Mr Scoobysport himself, what an honor, ok I will try to answer your challenge, Prodrive is located in the UK and Ralliart HQ is in Japan (as all the good things are, STI, Zerosports, JUN, Bozz Speed, Prova, Syms Racing, Car Station Marche, Cusco, Aqua to name just a few),correct? Did I win a full Scoobysport exhaust now?

I'm surprised to hear that there are sooo many good people in Luxembourg, I thought they're all boring, beer sapping morons....
