'Twas me 84.... my daughter was a nightmare compared to my son... she was just so much more aware of everything around her from such an early age. My son seemed to do nothing but sleep for the first 3 months. He had the odd hour here and there playing but that was about it.
I always had some sort of noise when he was asleep, even if it was just the radio on in the background. I think that is why they are such good sleepers. I could put the hoover on at this time and they wouldn't wake up.

 

No, she didn't say anything about it, so good news on that front..


Yeah, she doesnt think she had enough blood and pricked him 4 times.. still the flow was weak, even after a soak in a warm tub... I dunno when she is coming, so I cant prepare sadly ..

He is pooing more now and honestly it looks and smells like mint sauce ... really, really odd ..

I'm relaxing a bit more now too .. the milk is strong and he appears to be a sleeper .. waking to play for only a short time, or when nappy, food is required.. although he hates having his nappy changed or being undressed..

 

Opposite here. My baby son (first child) seemed to be so troubled! But then again, he was born through stressed emergency Cesarean. he suffered asphysxia straight after birth and was seperated from me for 2 days; away in the hospital ICU. Oh, he cried, and cried, and cried day and night for months! He rejected breast feed, so he had to be fed on powder milk. By the time he was about 9 months old, he gradually grew out of his whingey state.

On contrary, my baby daughter was very confident, born through planned and comfortable Cesarean section, and she had no problem with taking on breast feed just after half hour of her birth. She was a very content, trouble free baby who hardly gave me many sleepless nights. She went out like a light at 7PM, would wake up at 6AM the next day, throwing her arms and legs, gurgling and salivating

That built my opinion that the boy babies are cry babies, while girl babies as much stronger and satisfied ones LOL

Intranatal, perinatal, and even prenatal circumstances/occurings can bear the reasons for the way new born babies react/respond. Colics, jaundice and constipation etc. have already been mentioned in other posts. IMO mother's diet during pregnancy and during breast feed is to be taken into account in relation with baby's gastric problems.

God, my son was a pain last night. Jesus ! Little chap wasnt happy, and was a right grouchy sod. Didnt have his usual sleep during the day, and boy didnt we know it !

So, despite the advice, god it was a rough night :-) So, it happens to all of us.

Pimmo - a lot of very young babies look a bit odd. Yours genuinely looks very cute. Proper handsome little chap.

Two bad nights for us then fine last night - we have a very random sleeping baby it seems!

Mind you, all babies look similar. Mmm although I say that, my partner has a friend that has possibly the most ugliest baby Ive ever seen. I know that sounds harsh, but christ he's an ugly git. Head is in the shape of a kidney, and he's got terrible `flat head`. Forehead seems to come over over some sort of qwosimodo looking thing.

Sweet little boy, but everytime I see him, I cant help but breath in with shock ! I so hope his looks improve.

My little pig is beautiful and is such a cutie. I love walking him about in his pram, as all the ladies pop over to take a look and remark how cute he looks :-)

Turboshot gave some good info about mums diest while bf..... sometimes it can trigger certain things like wind and constipation, so if Mrs pimmo eats anything she usually wouldn't get her to just note it on tha calander. Might sound dramatic, but if he ends up with bad wind, and constipation, it pays to take that into consideration and maybe not to induldge in it when bf.
Glad all seems to be settling down pimmo. Things will soon regain some normaility, I assure you. Then you will wonder what all the fuss was all about.
I found my son was alot more placid that my daughter, she was a right little moaner, and still is!

sbk - I know what you mean. I've seen some proper shockers in my time - sweet but odd looking in the extreme.

Managed to get a pretty "normal" one luckily - no funny lumps or bumps!

The feeding lady just left and she is happy, he has gained weight since yesterday .. nothing massive just enough ..

She doesnt like the expressing milk option as it encourages the body to make more milk than the baby needs causing problems for the mum.. shes given us her number and some good tips .. and his poo now looks like curry which is excellent ... or so I'm told

Pimmo if the Mrs is going to exclusively breast feed then there is no need for her to express. Just if you were going to continue with the formula. But as they both seem to have got the hang of it, why pay for milk when its there on tap for free, and already pre heated to the right temp! lol

 

I am feeling a lot more positive about the whole thing now, I think the lack of sleep and stress of 3 days in hospital took its toll on my emotions .. and hes me thinking I was emotionally dead

When are you back at work? Would grandparents have your eldest without her feeling left/pushed out so that you can both have an early night, or a lie in... or both?

A little bit of extra time to catch up on sleep will do wonders, and for us who have had more than one child know all about what its like. You can't just stay in bed like you could with the first and its a killer.

Before you know it you will be asking advice on crawling and teething!

So is the Mrs getting over the labour ok? Almost been a week now so I bet she is a lot more mobile now.

Back at work a week Wednesday, but they are flexible and I can add holidays if required..

I'm waiting on a start date for my new role, its been like 4 months now ..

Hey Pimmo,

I am not sure if this has been mentioned. If your baby is still colicky (either now or in the future) the most effective solution we have come across (in addition to the usual winding etc) is an additive called Colief. It is not cheap (£10) a bottle - you add 5 drops to a small amount of milk (expressed if your partner is breastfeeding).

The product itself is simply Lactase which metabolises the suger in milk. Undigested/unmetabolised lactose is one of the main sources of wind.

Hope all goes well - with our second the lack of sleep was torture as I stayed up with him to let me wife sleep.

good tip we picked up for the cold hands was use baby socks, also helps prevent them scratching themselves. Ours is 10 and half months now, he is going to be a giant
