Thanks guys!

ScoobyNoobie,
I was amazed how long 10ltrs did not last. I never asked Richard how much the fuelling was upped to account for the fuel change, but after a handful of runs the tank was empty! We had to put some more in, especially for when I gave it a quick blast on the road.

Well Sure i know with mine, and its only running about 320-330 on pump fuel, 10 litres of motorway miles would only get you about 80kms/50 miles.

When giving it the gun it would half that!
Its great fun until you have to return the pump again after only about 200miles

Keep keeping us posted!
Cheers,
Rob

It did 4 full pulls on the dyno before the fuel light flashed (to be fair I think the initial load was about 9ltrs, as we were finishing off a drum) and we had to put some more in. I wouldn't want to use this stuff for every day use! lol

Hammer Man,
Cheers to you as well!

Frayz,
Yes... back on VPower. It is a daily shopping car you know. The "mix" will be used as and when required.

Will do Peter once Ive finished and will show complete evolution of car from standard, through first engine build to where it stands (Almost) now .

I took alot of photo's along the way so should have something to put together. Seeing threads like this by Shaun, Duncan, Daz and yours kinda inspires one to do a proper write up although I must admit mines more about building it with what I have/had at hand at the time and some things are fit for a purpose apposed to lots of bling.

My mate says I love my files

I Guess the new fuel system looks very bling (For me)

Cheers
Col

Hi Col,
Thanks for your kind comments.

Look forward in seeing your write-up at some stage (hopefully sooner). I'm sure it will be a good read!

What size of turbo are you going to be using?

Default The end is nigh.........

This will undoubtedly be the final update to this project thread.

After 5yrs ownership of my MY03 Spec C I have finally come to the conclusion that it is time for a change.

I have thought about this long and hard. Whilst this is not the first time I have thought this, it certainly is a reality now. The deal has been agreed and I will be dropping my Spec C off and picking up my new toy within the next 3 weeks.

Although the Spec C has only ever been a weekend 2nd car, it is certainly the longest I have ever owned any single vehicle in my life. For me personally that proves to me how great a car it has been. Don’t get me wrong I have had some “down’s”, but also plenty of “up’s” as well. I still stand by the fact that the Spec C (or equivalent JDM STi), as a COMPLETE road car and everything that should really mean, was at it’s best at 370bhp. Awesome car and great reliability, that only ever required the petrol flap opening for fuel.

Making the decision to go for a completely new engine, loads more ancillaries and 500+bhp has been stressful and costly. Saying all this though, last year more than made up for it during ScoobySprint. The car was great and having my car on the top podium spot was a feeling I will treasure forever.

Customers can get hell bent on BHP figures, without the realisation of the potential cost to achieve, risks of achieving and reliability against say a fairly standard road car. If you accept all this (and I have always gone in to this with my eyes fairly wide open) then fill your boots, if you don’t, STOP!

For the level of tune and use, this Spec C has been amazingly reliable and I am sure will continue to be so….. but it is no standard Subaru, where you just plonk fuel in, get it serviced every 10k miles and are able to fully relax driving it.

Firstly I want a change to something else and secondly I no longer have the desire to have a ***** out thinly disguised road car. I desire more comforts like lower noise levels, ride compliance, electric everything and aircon!

Overall and certainly as my car stands now, it is fantastic! The journey over the past 5yrs (more so the past 3yrs) has been a massive learning curve, for me and some of the companies I have worked with.

To think that 3yrs ago I explained my goals as regards to power and was questioned by some as to how realistic that would ever be. To surpass that initial goal, win events and more recently achieve 600+bhp on a standard position GT30 core turbo….. makes everything worth it in the end.

Anyone that has gone through what I have, will (I suspect) fully appreciate that none of this is easy and costs an arm and a leg. What has undoubtedly helped minimise the stress has been the opportunity I have had, working with some of the best (imo) professional outfits in the business.

Without the help, expertise and more importantly, enthusiasm of so many companies none of this would of ever been possible.

I know people maybe bored senseless with me saying who has supported me, but I feel it is only right to say a personal thanks to everyone who has over the years, on this closure post. Apologies if I have forgotten anyone, but here we go:

Tracktive Solutions
AET Turbos
Hyperflow
Turbosmart
Litchfield Imports
Keith Michaels
Greenlight Insurance
AST UK
ScoobySport
API
PowerStation
ECUTEK
Forge Motorsport
Scott Lowe
PSi
Lateral Performance

So what have I bought now???

I couldn't bear anything other than another Subaru in reality, so I have decided to go for an extremely nice, unregistered, 7k mile JDM Hawkeye in the very desirable Urban Grey (same colour as S204). You know when you see the right car as you immediately want to buy it, and that I have! Car was sourced by API and is so nice the interior still smells new.... what you would expect having only covered 7k miles since new.

I have always loved the Hawkeye and the differences between the JDM STI and the Spec C of the equivalent year are minimal, and certainly not worth the additional premium in my view.

The car is pretty much standard, apart from the normal exhaust, panel filter and remap. It also has a brand new set of Performance Friction front brakes fitted, front lip spoiler and mudflaps..... and most importantly AIRCON!

Test driving it the other day bought back the memories of the Spec C when I brought it. Great twinscroll and ultra responsive.

Not much will be done to this car apart from some extra camber bolts front and back to crank the camber up, megarom remap and just maybe one of the latest 400bhp twinscroll turbos with uprated injectors in time. Well... that's the plan this week, so who knows how much BHP I will plan to have by the end of the month!

I can't wait to pick it up!

Such a shame to see that beast of yours leaving your company.

What is the new model.....it doesn't even have a spoiler! No doubt it'll end up the same spec as your old car!!!

But i like it tho

Tough decision I'm sure Shaun. Nice choice of replacement though but I'm sure as hell it wont be long before you start modding this one.

Glad you're not leaving the fold though as I enjoy our banter and I sincerely mean that!!

Good luck with the new one

Frayz,
Thanks.

Pete,
Five years of ownership is enough for me mate.... especially at the hardcore rate I have lived those 5yrs!

It is a JDM STI mate.... the spoiler is off as it is being repainted, due to a couple of marks I want removing.

Believe me.... I will certainly not be anywhere near the level of my Spec C.

Daz,
Yes and no regarding the decision. When the "right" car came up the decision was a lot easier.

Mods will be sensible and only if really warranted. Suspension and ARB's will not be changed at any point in the near future, if ever. I don't believe they are needed for a road car tbh. The only thing I will change on the handling is the geometry, just to sharpen it up a bit.

I will certainly keep the engine as it is for the moment and probably just get Richard to remap it on ECUTEK MEGAROM to get the best from it (per gear boost control and two fuel maps etc).

Brakes have been done so no issues there.

Cliff,

I should of kept those 800cc injectors now..... I might need them soon!

Beef,
It certainly caught my eye and I love the colour!

Congrats on the new car. I have had my JDM STi from new for over 7 years and cannot find anything which will give the reliability/value/performance that the JDM STi's offer.

Out of interest what has happened to your Spec 'C'++ ?

Very nice write up shaun, I was acutely looking forward to seen how far you will push the spec C but like all good things must come to an end.

Best of luck with the new motor

SPEN555,
My Spec C will be having a different owner.

Mus,
I obviously didn't push it hard enough as it has never blown up!

Cliff,
I look at David being my local "Mr Miayagi". He might be a short ****, but......
