Hi Ellie,
Many many thanks to you, AET, for the continued support over the past couple of years! Your latest standard fit turbo has certainly delivered the goods. Let alone the Hyperflow FMIC, Breather Kit, Inlet Kit and various Turbosmart products you supplied. The recent real world results have been about the sum of all parts used and not just down to one individual item, so you have played just as big a part as any of the other professional companies involved with this car.

I have a personal thanks to go to Andy Taylor (AET MD)! He has bent over backwards with his support and generosity. To be honest, so has everyone involved..... it has been quite amazing.

I look forward to working with AET over the next 12 months!

You should be VERY proud of your results in Round 5..... who said "birds" can't drive! Just slow down though...... you are making the rest of us look like idiots!

Fair play lads and lady, Very enterraining thread!
I just wanted to say well done to shaun for the effort and the great write ups,
And well done simon on his ability to jump into someone elses car and drive it so naturally,
I had a great day at the scoobysprint myself, after the sighting lap I realised my car was to heavy and my tyres to worn to get any better than 46sec
So I was out having the craic, and i was subsequently asked to calm down and give it a rest, It was great fun though,
It was great to see, a road car (shaun's) running so fast, and a pretty little blonbe (AET ellie) not far behind! Well done!
Keep up the good work,
And thanks to all the lads who made me (the only irish lad there) feel so welcome on the day!

Cheers, there was something that just "clicked" that last round, thats why I was gutted it had finished. I changed a couple of things with my driving and it worked so its up and up from here. I was waiting too long before putting the throttle back on in the corners but tried a bit earlier that last go and the results were awesome (and having never done it before I surprised myself , let alone a few others!!)

Simonthrew the red rag in front of the bull when he said it was a good job I didnt beat him because he 'couldnt let a woman win' - simon is my main goal next year and hes never going to live it down when I do beat him (and I will at some point), he probably cant remember but you know what us women are like, we dont forget and we hold a grudge, pmsl!! Ill show him, judgement day will come!!

Thanks for that info earlier, we look forward to continually working with you, much appreciated

Are you planning any 1/4 any time soon.

Will be interested to see what you can do up the quarter.

IIRC...Duncan ran a 11.5 at TOTB

Thanks guys,
I never had the opertunity to throw the car around like that,
My local curcuit (mondello) don't allow any messing!
And when the check engine light flashed up on the morning of scoobysprint, and Richard from tracktive solutions (pure gent) pluged his computer in and told me that the lambda senser was broken and that she was in limp mode, I thought "**** it, sure i'll just have the craic!
I was asked to call it a day (I was getting a bit carried away) before I got a chance to get any video footage of my car on track, does anyone know if there is any videos around??

We were supposed to have a few other lads coming over from Ireland, but only I made it,
Again, I was delighted with the warm welcome from everyone,
Fair play to you's

I have secured a new full feature on the current format of the Spec C in Redline Magazine (this will be the third mainstream published full feature on this car since the modifications began in 2005) and also a potential "Cover Car" feature is in the wings with another well known publication. I will update this thread when finite details are known.

AET Turbos have produced a newsreel on their website about the recent events with the Spec C -> Shaun Fennings Scoobynet project car

Ellie,
The only thing I can say that is positive about your driving vs mine, is that when I stopped after my 3rd timed run and handed the keys to Simon I was beating you by seven places! If only I had carried on! Well done on your achievement.... I best get my backside in to gear for 2010! Along with the rest of the field, if your driving is anything to go by!

After visiting some of the potential venues recently with Simon, I think the ScoobySprint 2010 Championship will be pretty awesome!

Fai17,
I would be lying if I said I was "planning" to do a 1/4m run. Undoubtedly I will have a go in the future...... as long as I can get past the inevitable thoughts of only getting a poxy 12's run in in the public eye! I attempted at the final, but they decided to close the strip for lunch as I rolled up! Richard Bulmer states it could potentially get a 10's 1/4 (based on another two Newage cars he has tuned to similar power levels)..... I have more chance of beating Ellie on the sprint tbh!

Dan,
Glad you enjoyed yourself and I am certain that I am not the only one to say thank god you made the trip and took part in ScoobySprint!

Richard is a good egg and it is good to hear he helped you out!

You could try looking at Youtube for anything 'Scooby Sprint' related, to see if there is any footage.

I was very impressed with your driving at the final Ellie, you do have a bit of a weight advantage for accel and braking over us blokes but i suppose we might have slightly better traction.

If only eh Ellie. I jumped in Jon Beech's car after the timed runs were over and knocked 1.25s off his best time, with a couple of setup tweeks we made from those runs he went 1.5s faster. Too late then though!

Thanks John and yes if only....... Its the first time ive ever drove on a handling circuit this year and I think its just right for me. Something to do with the fact that im not having to be aware of other cars around me or worrying about hitting a wall etc.... at least on the airfield using cones you can push yourself to the limit and the worst you will do is spin out (ive yet to acheive this, will probably s**t myself when I do, but its gonna happen one day! ) I only have to think about me and my driving and its good for the confidence. MacDonalds breakfast is good on the way too

Shaun - dont worry, as Tom Cruise once said, you can be my wingman anytime

(I can see im gonna pay for all this wind up but it'll make for an interesting season in 2010! )

Ive re-done the news article, if you have any videos we could have then send them and ill put them up

Ellie,
Remember..... you are still only a "bird". "Wingman"... whatever next!

Updated article of the Spec C on the AET News section looks I love the two "Spec C stealth" images at the end!

I have two YouTube video links I can send over for you.

So basically Shaun during the autumn/winter months you become a magazine tart well the car does.......dont forget about your top mount intercooler which isnt there on a different note you dont wish to par-take in spilling the beans on where next years venues are likely to be after your reccy with simon

Gus,
ROFLOL @ "Magazine Tart" Not my place to divulge mate.... but based on what could be on the table (several different venues), it will be great and so much better than 2009.

Ellie,
No your not winding me up!

Paul,
Mate.... what's the point! We both know it will end in tears!!! However, I will probably still pop down, regardless of whether I find some *****.

October 2008 - Snetterton
As I mentioned previously I had already booked a day at Snetterton some weeks ago and the main aim was to have some real fun and get me some more seat time behind the wheel.

I really like Snetterton although I have only been to this track twice before.... not sure what it is about the track, but I have previously had some right fun. Since fun was what this visit was all about, it suited the remit down to the ground!

This was also going to the the first time Libby (my long term partner) was going to be a passenger on track with me as well.... so it was quite an occasion for her and me!

I thought it would be good for me to have Libby in the car, as I knew there would be less chance of me giving it loads than if I had been on my own. Not what this day was all about and certainly not on a public track day!!

Personally I always find mid-week trackdays are much better than weekend ones. The type of person and cars attending mid-week events are normally more mature. Having others on track that have good track manners is half the battle if you ask me. Way too many "other" track events have I been on, when everyone thinks they have something to prove.... not my type of environment!

Anyway, with the car ready after it's recent visit to Tracktive off we set at 4:30am Thursday morning!

We arrived at Snetterton about 6:45am after a gentle drive over and as soon as I got there I captured a garage! Drove the car in and started swapping the wheels over and getting the car ready. Time soon flew and it was then time to sign-on and complete the noise test.

Another good thing about Snetterton is noise limits..... they normally run with a 105db limit. If you appreciate this, you will understand that this is quite high. With issues I have had before with the noise level of my car, I have previously just got under at Snetterton, around 102db mark.

I know this sounds crazy but since the engine has been rebuilt, the car sounds a lot quieter on power. Running all season in ScoobySprint I have constantly had noise checks and they have all come in at around 90db. I have always thought this was because it has not been measured correctly, as last year it always came in at 102-104db. Low and behold it came in at 90db static @ 6000rpm! I can't see what else it could be.... as nothing else has been changed! Weird!

After the drivers briefing we all completed the obligatory sighting laps. Once this was out of the way it was Open Pitlane! Anyone that has not done many track days before, Open Pitlane is a type of trackday offered at some venues, which means that you can go out when you like, for as long as you like. I prefer this, as you can come and go as you please.

One thing I forgot to mention was the weather!!!

What a lucky sod I have been ALL year... every event I have done it has been bone dry and sunny. Snetterton was no exception!

There were all sorts of vehicles at Snetterton on this day. Ranging from Clio's to Ferrari's.... plenty of Porsches as well! There were also several Time Attack cars, which I assume were testing in readiness for Sunday's final. As per usual, everyone speaks to each other and it was a really good atmosphere.

It was time to go out on track!

As already mentioned, today was about having some fun. With this in mind (backed up by the fact that Libby would be riding shotgun with me) I decided to take it easy all day, use low boost and short shift. I am dead against "gunning it" on a public track event, especially with passengers!

I had already spoken to Curtis of AST UK the day previous and asked whether or not he could give me some advice on the suspension set-up for track. He obliged and asked me to give him a ring anytime during the day. After the sighting laps I gave him a ring and asked him what I should adjust. It was fairly in-line with what he had told me previously for track use, so off I went and made adjustments to the High and Low compression on the rear shocks. Everything else was left as road spec.

One of the things I had in the back of my mind was potential oil surge issues on this Circuit. It is renowned for killing engines when you are pushing it. But since I would not be pushing anything on this day, it should not of been a concern..... but you know what happens when you are warned about something!

Everytime I was going out (even though I was taking it easy), I was constantly keeping an eye on my oil pressure.

I was very surprised how well the oil cooler seemed to work, as temps seemed to stabilise at around 110degs after about 5 laps. I was only staying out for about 8 laps each time, but I did notice that once the oil temp got to around 100degs the oil pressure was dropping (but stayed constant) to 5bar. I called Richard after my first season and asked him if this was OK. He said that was fine..... you obviously are not driving quick enough!! In all seriousness though, he said as long as it is not dropping suddenly by say 2bar, then you will be fine. It wasn't, it just stayed constant at 5bar once over 100degs. Letting it cool back to 90-95degs soon saw just under 6bar as per normal road use. I was obviously not getting any oil surge problems.... not that I would of expected to, just completing leasurily laps.

The day went really well and both Libby and myself enjoyed it. I completed over 50 laps and the car felt and went really well. However I did have a couple of problems!! The seat came loose and the rubber seal on one of the headlamps came off!

A "could of, should of" kicker became apparant later on though.......

Obviously you are not allowed to time laps on a public trackday and since the car and myself were taking it easy, the thought of what times the car was doing was not even on the radar.

Now... I did film a few laps and here is one of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubvyDqOUR5M

Anyone that knows Snetterton will fully appreciate how much I am backing off, especially around the last 1/3 of the track. I can honestly say I never pushed the car, nor myself. With Libby in the passenger seat, at a public event, short shifting and in low boost, I was extremely surprised I managed a 1:22 on the above video. Each lap felt relaxed and sedate and all the filmed laps were 1:22-1:23.

The worst thing about this was the original intention of running in the final of Time Attack and the fact that Simon and I thought we would need some serious set-up time. First off that time above is not particulary quick, but when you compare the speed at which I was actually driving with the mrs next to me (you can clearly see where I am backing right off), together with my driving ability compared to Simon's, the fact that I was short shifting and in low boost..... let's just say that Simon said (once he saw the video) a)that was not me driving , and b)he will be waiting for my keys at Snetterton on Sunday morning for TA!

Like I said it was a great day and I can't wait to get back on track next month.

We stopped the night at a hotel and drove back today. I then had to unload the car and then give it a full wash, polish and interior valet, as I have Redline coming round tomorrow to do the photoshoot.

Happy Days!

Yes m8, although last time up, still an 11.1 but with a faster terminal 128.4mph. Was a smidgeon slower over the first 1/8th, gonna have a crack at the tyre pressures this time out, always ran a stock 32psi all round before, lol.
