yeah apostle has a harvey special.
It wasn't a quick easy fit afaik, I dunno if that was just down to the fmic pipework or not. I know stan had trouble with his turbo fit also, so its definitely not turbo specific. I know enginetuner have just finished another hatch with sc46 billet and a perrin fmic. Maybe Martyn can say whether that one fitted straight in or not.
Spool up is quicker than the standard turbo, need i say more?
As for driveability, on part throttle and normal driving it doesn't feel any different than standard. Stomp on the throttle and you will experience 4 wheel spin and a flashing esp light. Squeeze on the throttle in any gear and you will be going exactly where you want very quickly.
cheers

Yeah, MartinJ had mentioned earlier that the cossie fmic / pipework was not ideal but the Perrin one was better, and the fitting problems were sorted.

Scoobyclinic reckon these direct fit turbos do just that, and I was wondering if it's a do it yourself or take it in somewhere!

Thanks

The turbo is a direct fit, no messing at all and it even fits the stock intake pipe. You absolutely could fit it yourself but be gentle with it till you get it mapped.

I got a quote to fit it in the boot for £500!!! ended up doing it myself for £140!!! And YES Salsa it can now cook a burger BBQ ;-) flaming hot LOL cheers Ian

You have a 330S don't you - so just get the mic as the 330S headunit has bluetooth built in.

This system is great and I have not had any problems with it whatsoever.

Thanks Martyn, a further question - would the hatch need a FMIC or would the TMIC cope, or just cope to a certain level?

Only thing stopping me going SC46 is the need to build a forged motor!
Final Question - would drop in forged pistons suffice or would I need crank / H beam rods, ACL race, ARP bolts / head studs etc.?

Thanks

Neil

Hmm the above sounds like I am being cheap, really I would like to keep the std look and it's a waste to rip out a good 12000 mile engine ... but if thats what it takes!

You could stick with the topmount, add forged pistons only and run 420/420 all day long. Obviously fully forging it would be better, but not everybody has the budget to do so. With a bit of meth you could probably get 450/450 but the topmount intercooler would be beginning to struggle.

What are the options for 'drop-in' pistons and what sort numbers are we talking in terms of hrs to do that?

Must admit i am very tempted with the forged route but the coward side of 400 would more than suit me.

I am liking the sound of drop in pistons, turboback exhaust, cold air intake and a good map.

How much guys ???

A forged Engine in the hatch makes it a superb car in every way, no fear of the dreaded ringland fractures

Well worth doing for peace of mind, but that decreases as the BHP increases
400/400 should be pretty bomb proof and sensible money.
Martyn/Alan/Andy @ Enginetuner will do a good job.

I'd definately be interested in a price... although just seen where you are based. That's some drive for me from Manchester so supply only on the pistons

Thumbs up Not a 330S

Urban - Actually it's an Euro Spec Sti import - same spec as 330s but with out PPP But with the lovely forged BBS rims (just refurbed in a beautiful Ford 'blue'ish hue titanium' colour).

I bought the PPP exhaust bits second hand off JaySTi and then fitted the H+S d/pipe, Harvey hybrid up-pipe, Litchfield (Forge) caik, RCM wrapped headers and the Enginetuner rebuild (cough cough).

Trouble is in doing the drop in pistons only, it doesn't cost much more to 'future proof' it - as you always want more.

Replacing the rods make sense, plus RCM oil pump, Cosworth baffle, ARP studs are a sensible addition etc etc. Whilst in bits Enginetuner had their 'head expert' spend £500 worth of time porting and polishing which I thought was worth it whilst in bits.

Currently I'm at 365 / 430 with a maxed out turbo. SC46 billet, Perrin intake, 800cc injectors are next and 'should' take me to 430+bhp whilst still on the top mount... BUT funds are tight and right now I'm slowly saving the spondoolies. lol

My aim is not outright power, but 'enough' which spools nice and early, responsive, quiet and discreet (suits me fine).

It's good to hear that many more are heading down this route and YES they really are very nice cars to drive now.

Enginetuner gave me impartial advice - no pressure selling - did as they said - no surprise extra's - nice people to boot (expression only). Worth the 500 mile round trip every time.

You wouldn't be the first to travel that kind of distance for our services.
One customer sent his car from almost as far North as you can go for a 630bhp 2.1 build. Bypassed just about every other tuner in the country on the way.

I totally agree with Apostle. Once you get the bug for power you will want more. So while the engines out future proof it for a little extra. Will save you big money in the future.
Personally I wasn't given the option to have the heads done. At first I felt a little left out and thought I would end up having to pay big money down the line to get it done. Now running at 500/500 the heads still seem to be up to the job as standard. And in the US some big tuners are running 700/700 on the standard untouched heads. Im sure it has its advantages though.
After a visit to enginetuner you will definitely get the bug for more power. Not because of pushy selling or anything like that. Just because you will get to see some of the other top builds they are doing and you will get jealous.
I regularly do a 150mile round trip just for an oil change there. Its well worth it for the chat with Martyn or Alan, a go in one of the courtesy car fleet and lunch at the barbican. Twice I have dropped off my car for an oil change and ended up leaving it there for more power.

I'll also be inquiring on a cost.
However the trip from N.Ireland would be more substancial than Manchester I would guess.

We'll - all you need is this part number from Subaru H0018FG300
£100 odd for a cable is a bit steep, but bluetooth on the navigation unit is great I think.

Pump is good for up to 450bhp, stock injectors will need upgrading around the 380-400bhp mark so the Ecutek 800cc would be our preferred replacement. They cost £475+ vat and are available from stock.

Yes, should be a straight fit, quite a few peeps have done this on the WRX with the STI pipes to tidy up the second hole you have to cut.

These guys are usually pretty reasonable, not listed but I'm sure they have them:

http://www.subarupartsstore.co.uk/

They do occasionally come up second hand or you can grab yourself some carbon ones off of ebay.

Also pop over to the harch forum to say hi:

http://subaruhatch.forumotion.com/forum

I think there's some confusion here. The black plastic part at the bottom of the STi rear bumper is not a seperate panel so will not fit the WRX (at least not easily!)

What Arronb is refering to are the exhaust finisher trims (see below)which can be fitted to a WRX to tidy up the hole you have to cut in the bumper for the STi back box.

Incidently, the ones pictured are for sale - drop me a PM if you're interested.

Cheers,

Neil
