iphone or not a iphone, that is the question??
Wouldn't have thought it would have much problem doing that. It's hardware performance sits somewhere between an Xbox and PS2. Could be a RAM issue as it only has 128MB, doesn't it ? And I believe some of that gets allocated to it's PowerVR integrated graphics (same gfx as the Palm)
Well its about 400MHz ARM Chip, but as you can not compare CPU architectures between different platforms, it would be a pointless task to compare clock speeds with gaming machines, agree it could be a RAM issue, but this negates the fact it still can not do it...Try it.
Another +1 for the new Android OS.... I bought the T-Mobile G1 and its the best phone I've had in years.... bearing in mind I tried several derivatives of the Nokia N-Series, O2 XDAs etc.
Not necessarily better than the iPhone but definitely a serious contender. I'd wait it out til the newer G2 is out at the end of the month and have a play....

You don't need the stylus for any email apps. I take it you haven't used the Touch HD, whereas I tried the top 5 touch phones before purchase and choose a phone on its merit (what it could actually do) not as a fashion accessory Background services? I thought they are explicitly disallowed by the terms of the SDK?
My contracts due to end shortly
Toying with a G1 , but would like a better camera, and the ability to use 3rd party nav sw
Going to hold oput and see what the new N97 is like.
I liked my N95, but the GPS was fubarred, and Voda wouldnt / couldnt fix it
Ive seen the gps on the N96 and that worked fine..
will give the G2 a look though

Agree with the last two, the 1st No in my opinion
Didnt rate the blackberry storm very much, seemed nice but didnt perform. G1 just looks plastic and the guy in work that bought one cause he didnt want to buy an iphone like everyone else in work now hates his.
HTC HD is so much better than the old HTC diamond we had as work phone but I still dont think it was as slick or user friendly as the iphone. Would probably be my second choice though

Just bought an iPhone and, to be honest, it's the best phone I've ever had (and I've had a few) - makes my last Windows Mobile 6 smart-phone (Samsung SGH-i600 'Blackjack') look and feel like DOS 3.3.
The usability is 2nd to none, and the seamless way that apps are downloaded, installed, used and uninstalled makes the process on WM6 - if you can find that many useful and free apps for WM6 - seem painful and slow.
TBH there are a few other phones that offer similar size, weight and functionality - but it was the apps that compelled me along an iPhone route. Whether it's games, daft utilities (spirit level?), cool eBay/Facebook interfaces (much easier to use than the browser based versions), etc. - it's a fantastic experience.
However, battery life could be better.... but, again, given the use that I'm giving it it's very similar to my Blackjack battery (which was usless as a web browser, so I only used it in emergencies - unlike the iPhone).
OS 3.0 and the new hardware due in June/July will only make it better...

Glad you like it I've been mega impressed with mine cannot really find fault and the apps stores makes it some of the apps and games I have make the iphone so useful far more than any other phone I've had

thinks for all the info people, looks like the iphone should be right for me, the other question is, is to get it now, or give it a few months to see is a new iphone comes out?
I work for Apple's largest reseller. Whilst there is definitely a new OS for the phone I'd be surprised if there is a new phone too as they tend to develop all the products in cycles, next big launch should be the new Mac OS.

contrary to all the inside intel coming out mate. if you read into some of the speculation, orange are vying to become the second partner in the uk .
Here is an interesting link for all those people thinking of buying an iphone and are wondering whether to wait or not

The iPhone 3.0 OS has been looked at and there are product codes in there for devices that don't yet exist, and this is part of what is fueling the "new iphone" debate. Granted it could just be future proofing for updated versions of the OS, however, to me it would make sense to introduce a new device when you release a major update to the OS. There are also shots of a new video mode in the OS, which many speculate means new hardware (not too convinced on that one, I'm sure the current iPhone's camera can handle a video mode, there was a demo floating about of an app that did video, and this was a long time ago, there is probably some app to do this when you're jailbroken)
Bottom line, if you can wait until mid June, then I'd suggest you do, all you will waste is time if nothing does appear, and who knows, they might release a roadmap to when a new phone will appear, so if they say June next year, at least we'll know.

At present it's UK centric, it'd be interesting to see if the content changes when it's access from a country where Vodaphone does sell the iPhone (Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey), as it could simply be that it shows UK content because you're in the UK, rather than your home country which would show localized content.
More networks selling the iPhone is a very good thing for consumers. 3G is meant to be coming to more networks over here, which, one hopes, will cause Bell to be interested in having the iPhone as well, which would make for a nice price war
If it goes exclusive to vodafone I'll be peed off. Doesn't apple realize there damaging sales doing this.
I'll be wanting to upgrade to the new model when it's out halfway through my contract.
I'd prefer to use cup and string instead of vodafone

It would be madness if they went to vodaphoney exclusive, as 02 have such a large user base that all those current users who wanted the new model would be stuck in the 18month contract and would want to jump ship. Apple would only gain sales for new users at vodafone and lose 02 users. But if they went with two network operators , then they would effectively double their sales in one fell swoop.
