I got a plate made up today.

The car does run sooooo much smoother now! I've never ran a recirc as the car came with a BOV. The little squirrel isn't too loud to be honest. Thats with a K&N Typhoon, standard turbo intake, and a VF35.

Don't be so sure. My mate has one and standard it walked all up and down a 390bhp STi. In the twisties AWD and a full AST set-up saw the Scoob regain the advantage though. The same 335D has recently been map'd to iro 335/500 (from 280/430) so the in gear performance should be even better. Standard they are quicker 30-70 than the 5.0 litre V10 M5 (3.3s vs 3.7s), Prodrive quote 4.7s for the 06/07 STi PPP.

No, effectively everything is still connected as it was (with boost gauge tee'd off as per usual), I've just slipped a tin plate between the DV and IC.

The ecu's not cutting boost, so I think it's a bit unlikely it's actually making 1.7bar.. Only did a short evaluation drive today, I'll give it a better test tomorrow. Will let you know if the engine grenades itself..

Can I ask....

What does a recirc valve sound like?

The BOV gives a Woooooosh, the blanked gives a Squirrel noise, what does the recirc give?

Very similar, just much quieter. Removing the intake silencer (snorkel) and using a free flowing panel filter makes them audible like VTA's, but at about a quarter of the volume.

Cool, thanks

Can't fit the recirc yet, as the previous owner cut down the pipe going to the turbo intake, so it doesnt reach...... So just waiting until I get the new turbo, fmic etc on.

Oh, also......another dumb question.

When I fitted the blanking plate, the pops and bangs stopped...which is probably obvious.

But, when I was stationary and revving the **** off it to see what it was like, there was a few huge bangs (only when stationary), it sounded like anti lag. It only did it when stationary though, and hasn't popped once while driving. Any reason for this?

No. The Mitsi TD's are the best turbos to go DVless on. Tougher than the IHI VF's...

I don't think I would be too bothered about your mates car, twisties or not

Obviously your car is well up on power, but the vast majority of Scoobs running less than 400 lb/ft might be humbled by such a machine. Over distance it would definitely beat you though, as you'd need 3 fuel stops to his one

I presumed as much

I recall someone on here saying that on their way to The 'Ring they kept overtaking the same diesel Land Rover all the way, even though they were averaging 100+, as every time they pulled in for fuel he just trundled past them

That's what I thought too...

Not wise to go DVless on early VF's; okay for the later ones; totally fine to do it on the TD's. This is what I understand the general consensus to be.

My "blanking off" plate is a small length of "emergency hose" from Halfords and sink/washing machine waste pipe blank on the intake and a length of Samco and another on the i/cooler pipe

I did think of brass blanks but thought "weight saving"
