That Ofsted is worrying but its heading in the right direction at least

You can take some comfort that the LA will be all over that School to get it out of "4"

Plenty of support for the teachers and that usually means weeding out the poor ones

the school is an utter turd,
you should see the kids giving the people aggro outside.
mini update i am told 24 people in total put that as first choice
and another one a bit further away 18.

I live in Liverpool and 2 schools in our area had an Ofsted report which was all 1's - completely ourstanding and our son has just been offered a place, which also guarantees our second son a place.

Good luck with the appeal

and out of the 24 that put it as first choice how many will be excluded, have asbos or both?

It's okay for people to say 'it should improve' but in the meantime it is your kid's education that's suffering. Not to mention the company they may be keeping.

I wouldn't want my daughter attending a school like that - I may be sounding snobby, but at the end of the day we all want what's best for our kids - and this doesn't come close.

Good to see you are still pursuing, and have at least got a compromise to be going on with - hopefully you are feeling a bit more posotive about it!

Good luck!

Are you on the waiting list? If so, and a long way down , don't get disheartened. A lot of parents don't bother to tell the school if they find a place elsewhere. The school only finds out on the first day of term!

The whole system is farcical,
the trouble with it is it only effects you once or twice in your life, then you dont care.

Rising up the waiting list pretty quickly by the looks of things - you'll be home and dry soon hopefully.

15 miles away is a bit much for a kid to go to school isn't it

Hi all,

Ive got all this to come as my son is 3 months old. Im already looking around at my local schools and just wondered when can you apply for places ?? I would like him to go to nursery @ 3 years old then a good primary school, but am not sure when I can start applying.

At the moment Ive accepted that I'll just have to pay for a good school, even if I have to sell my cars / toys etc as his schooling is more important. I plan to have a couple more children and am shocked at how much some school charge, i.e. £6K a term ! that £18K net, over £20K gross !

I tell ya, 5 mins of fun and dirty talk, results in a life of expense and problems :-)

upto 8th now,

the councils are frighteneing me though,
left hand right hand.

and as for my own council, jesus, the form they sent me said the school we want was 1.3 miles in a straight line, and 1.1 miles walking there, not really sure how that works, but the level of gormlessness is astounding

well,

good old xxx council rang at 5-50 on friday and wanted to alter the appointment, as they cannot get enough panel members.
played bloody hell with them, and they still altered it and brought it a day forward,

just rung now, and said they cant do it tomorrow, and it could be week commencing 18 th may 2009.
we cant leave it to late as we are away,

its a good job they are not doing anything important, like a childs future isnt it.

we were all psyched up over the weekend to do it and all the docs's were put in folders and then they change their minds and alter the date.

cant tell you how pissed off i am but i cant complain too much because sallys future is in their hands.

well,
sally is 6th on the list,

we had our appel today, they changed the times twice, but we still managed to get there.
as we waited we saw some friends of ours, it was a hard few minutes as neither of us wanted to give away too much information. what a ridiculous state of affairs.
as we chatted a woman came out absolutley in tears, we thought jesus, what do they do in there, we pysched ourselves up only to find 3 lovely old dears in there which caught us a little by surpriuse, the council said their bit we said ours so we will wait and see.
fingers crossed.

i dont think we came across to forceful but managed to get our point across.

we have just had all this crap aswell lol. my son has all grade 1s and is in the maths class for gifted kids so i thought we would get place easy. the schools we aplied for are out of our area because the one in our area is a total crap hole. we got turned down for the good schools and given the crap hole . so we went to the appeals and i thought they went really well but we got turned down because we out out of the area.
but by luck we got a letter offering a place for a very good school that we was on the waiting list for . but while all this was happening i was going to pay for him to go private because if he went to the crap hole and got in with the wrong crowd he would of ended up wasteing his life away.

We were fortunate in that the school we were initially offered had an OFSTED report of all 1's (Oustanding) except one category which I think was attendance, however, the school we wanted him to go to (which we live outside of the catchment area) had an OFSTED report of all Outstandings and they also said it was rated second in the country for maths and english at primary school level. As our son had been attending the nursery in this school for a year we didn't want to uproot him and move him to another school.

That obviously explains why 84 people applied for 35 places - needless to say we were around 12th on the waiting list.

We had our appeal last Wednesday and we were notified on Friday morning that our appeal was upheld successful and our son will be offered a place at our preferred school.

Hats off to my wife as she spent a hell of a lot of time researching and building a case which she thought would be hard for them to refuse - and she was right.

I understand what you mean, a good friend of my wife also appealed and they had their appeal 30 minutes before us, they didn't win their appeal and they have been funny with us ever since.

I was dissapointed by their reaction, had it all happened the other way around we would have congratulated them with sincerity and moved on.

well..............................
we went to the appeal and whilst on holiday, we got loads of text messages of various other parents sayinth they had won. we were bottling it for a few days then the in laws rang and said we had got a letter saying we had won.
our arguements outweighed the council arguements and we won.

its a shame we had to go theu all of it but at least we got the right result
