It might be one of these for me, I fancy some thing a bit different. Test drove one a few weeks back and it was like a race car at 8500 revs.
Not as fast a the Scooby but more fun, better looking and not as common.

Top speed 150.

I think the Saab dealers are very conscious of the import issue.

I hate to say this but I need 7 seats, so it's either a new Espace when it comes out in September or I need to come up with some design to attach 2 seats to the roof of my 5 door Scoob!!

(Could be a challenge for you Photoshop guys)

 

I'm surprised at the support people are giving Saabs - 200bhp+ going through the front wheels sounds like a recipe for mad wheelspin to me, which I think will come as a shock after 4wd. Also the interiors are grey and plasticky (at least, the one I sat in at the motor show a year or so ago was), and they're far from pretty.

I fancied an R33 Skyline for ages but could never really afford one until recently, and they're all getting a bit old now. Do they age well, or do they start to squeak and rattle and get expensive to maintain? How much power do they need to come alive without becoming like manic race cars with no torque? I was thinking about 350bhp?

Right now my MY00 Turbo with PPP is looking pretty safe for the next year, by which time I hope there will be an upgrade for the UK STI to give it back the power it needs and deserves.

I think it's gotta be a Skyline for me, an R34 would be ideal but are serious cash... R33's are beasts and from all accounts age really well. I spoke to a couple of Skyline guys and they said if you drive one you'll want one, they just feel 'right' (one guy had/has an STi5).

MY00 for 18mths now. Keep thinking of a change but every time I drive it ......hmmmm. SAAB is truly a bargian and if you do not want to drive like a loony the torque steer isn't a big problem. I personally always choose a car based on the reputation and then a drive. I have to say that although drivers of them have a bad rep. for all their image issues a BMW 330ci will do for me next. I really couldn't justify an M3 as I do such little mileage and the extra £10k+ could be better spent elsewhere. I may look at LHD though as a German BMW main dealer M3 can be had for as little as £29k even now! I don't know, cars, I love most of 'em!

 

Hmmmm. I think Skyline R34

Was gonna be the new STi but having driven it and got back into my car it was just too samey, only way I see "up" from a scoob while staying in a similar league (jap 4x4 ) would be the Skyline. Just a different beast altogether from the scoobs and evos....

When I bought the scoob I had a choice between S2000, S3 and Scoob - got the scoob coz it put the biggest smile on my face when driving it

 

In terms of running costs, how does running a Skyline compare to running a Scoob?

When you consider cost vs practicality vs fun there is no argument it has to be a Scooby.

However, given an unlimited budget and a bullet proof garage it would surely have to be a R34 Skyline with as many Nismo bits as you could find.

 

Got it...sold the scooby and got a 328i Sport....love it...may not be as quick but looks the t#ts

 

The only replacement I can think of is a Skyline GT-S.
RWD 250bhp and an LSD.
Nice replacement for a cossie methinks. And plenty of donuttage to be had. Cheaper than a GT-R too.

It'll probably have either a Subaru badge on it (and hopefully sti, too) or be the latest state of the art oil burner. Who knows what diesels will be like in a couple of years time, but if they carry on the way they're going, hmmm...

...and buy an old caterham with the money I save on fuel

I had a Saab before. Couldn't speak more highly of them.
Cheap servicing, never went wrong etc. Put 130k mls on it too!

Would be interested to test drive a viggen, but can't see it touching the scoob for enjoyment.
Good for other stuff though - comfort, quietness, smoothness, build quality, stereo etc.

Maybe when I get a few more points.

 

it'd be interesting to see just how many members of scoobynet are gonna go over to skylines....more than a few i bet
running costs arent that dissimilar, even mines reasonable on fuel on the motorway.£30 quid to fill her up, does about the same amount of mpg as the sti5 we have. servicing is every 6000 miles, and doesnt cost much. engines are bombproof, and i can assure you an r33 squeeks and rattles a LOT less than the new my00 i had. paintwork and body is pretty tough too, not easy to chip or dent like a scooby.
only problem i have is that i only do 1000 miles a year commuting
i commute in my ibiza, a tank of fuel lasts me 5 weeks , but unfortunately i dont get chance to drive my gtr much coz of work commitments. ah well, at least she looks pretty on my drive when i leave in the morning
