This thread seems to boil down to some simple choices:
GT-R with guaranteed depreciation, and potentially major problems,
or
997 Turbo with maybe zero depreciation, and solid reliability.
That one shouldn't take long to decide. And when the true GT-R picture emerges, you can move across any time.
Being sensible never felt so good. And everyone needs a Porsche in their lives at some time
Richard.

I am not bothered about the badge, but image wise I wouldn't say the GTR is less in your face, people aren't daft and know that these things aren't cheap, I suspect the Porsche actually is less in your face as it is a fairly common sight. I love the look of the GTR but I am afraid it shouts **** much louder than any Porsche, not what I think but my wife said "w*nkers car" when I showed her a picture, she does say that about anything over ten grand that isnt utilitarian though.

Hmmmm...I was down there too recently filming the GT4 (350Z race car) with a certain chap called The S... in attendance. The Nissan guys were messing with a GTR in between the testing and I must say I did quite fall for it. Far nicer than any jumped up beetle . I only have 370Z money though but from what I was picking up on its a right cracker (and I dont mean just the bits in the gearbox!).

It was funny - Nissan saw the film today and queried if we had a few bits of GTR sound over the GT4?! We didn't even film the GTR as that was not the brief (and solid state memory cards running full broadcast HD dont last long!)!!!
GT4 sounded like the usual fast bag of spanners in a pit lane - nothing LIKE a GTR.

Nissan dealer haven't phoned back yet. I'm expecting they won't, but if they do I'll still do the deal, but I'm not increasing my bid.
The Evo discs are getting a bit lipped and ordered some new ones (pattern parts but forum members have used them repeatedly on track with no fade, cracking, warping). Discs all round and rear pads £195 delivered makes you realise how economical a Scooby or Evo can be to run. I like my smiles, but I prefer smiles/£.

Camskill.
To be clear, I'm happy with the stock discs, if you are I think these should be good. If you have problems with stock discs, get something better.
For pads, I probably wouldn't use the cheapo ones in the front, but probably OK on the rear. I use Carbotech XP8 for the front (buy from "the tyrant" on MLR who is a dealer, about £150). Bit dusty, but work better than stock, and good from cold, not too much squeak/squeal.

These J - CAMSKILL PRODUCTS EVO 7 8 9 Front Brake Disc and Pad Set Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7 8 9 CT9A :: £99.99 :: Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 1(I) 2(II) 3(III) 4(IV) 5(V) 6(VI) 7(VII) 8(VIII) Parts, Tuning, Spares & Accessories :: EVO 7 8 9 CT9A - Braking - Bra
Cant afford £150 for pads really. You WOULD or WOULNT put these pads (and they are very vague about manufacturer/spec)?
£150 is very steep for me for alternative pads mind!

Sorry, typo, I WOULDN'T put the cheap front pads in a performance car as even on a 406 I made a pad come off its backing with some enthusiastic driving, and I wouldn't use cheap drilled discs. The discs arrived today and look well made, I went for them because others have tried and abused them with success. The rear pads I will keep an eye on, as it is with another set of cheap rear pads the braking doesn't feel front heavy with performance front pads.

Jesus - have all manufacturers forgotten how to make **** since the 00's started? Seems to me that all the truly bombproof motors were made/designed in a year starting 199x, and since the millenium it's been acceptable to fit sponge where previously steel was preferred.

Tony, it was AF Noble, nr Edinburgh, but they made a central query.
I have just got my project completed to run my Evo 9 ECU without a MAF sensor (without any electronics - just from rewriting the ECU code), plus it is also able to be mapped with the engine running based on my earlier work. I'm hugely chuffed at this, it would feel odd to move to another car where the ECU is so less well understood and the unencrypted ROM images are not floating in the wild ready to be rewritten

Haha! Yes, sounds like it! RS4 is no GTR that's for sure. I guess he's had his fun and is playing safe by off loading while the going is good.
Reading that link from SM (good find BTW) this does seem like a classic GTR (Great InTernet Rumour ) that doesn't quite measure up to the facts. And I just cannot imagine that Nissan would let an issue like this pass without doing absolutely everything possible to rectify any issues, quietly an efficiently.
But Nissan is certainly being naive in delivering a car with the GTR's feature set into a market where the world revolves around drag times.
It could mean that prices for a 'one careful lady owner' GTR will get mighty tempting any time soon

Cheers John, i'll let Steve know. I know he speaks to Middlehurst quite often for updates (he wasn't impressed when the black edition was changed to even darker alloys), maybe he will see his before the years out then?? I'm sure he's not aware of the transmission issue tho..... he doesn't do internet forums
Tony.
PS been keeping up with your EVO ecu exploits, very impressive. Having had the M3 for a year now maybe an EVO is next?

Hoppy,
I think the link has some credibility as I think Inside Line have their own car and were the first to prove the 3.3s 0-60 time on US soil. It makes interesting reading.
Also at least one owner has clearly trashed his car many times and is now arguing with Nissan as he munched the box.
The other car has 600bhp and did over 100 launches. Not many trannies can take that kind of punishment irrespective of design!
