Cheers Mamoon, I like both and need to drive both. But yes have heard that about the drive on the Pathfinder and the rich mum down the pre school moved from a Pathfinder to a Disco3 and says the same as you, miles apart and she much prefers the Disco3.
The thing with the Disco3 is that it seems to be one of very few cars that can take 6/7 adults in comfort where as most others are children only in seats 6/7. I want to stick the grandmother in law over there when she visits
Like both, prefer Disco3 for looks/space but worry about the reliabilty and the Pathfinder appeals on Japanese build and longevity and less money to buy.

Bravo,
I had the Pathfinder Aventura before my Disco and you can't compare the two. Yes it has all the toys but it drives like a transit van.... Fact! Don't forget its a pick up truck underneath. Hence the difference in price. Not even in the same league.
As you said, there may be horror stories but you get that on all cars. There wouldn't be so many RR Sports on the road if they were that bad would there?

i spoke to an AA man (of 20 years) the other day, he said he recovers, on average 3 Discos per shift, mostly electrical problems
(he said he has never completed a shift without recovering at least one)
there is one car however that he has never recovered.

I would drive both and see what you think, and then weigh up costs, what its going to be used for and what kit level you want.
The pathfinder can seat 7 adults, Pathfinder also has more space behind the 3rd row of seats than the D3.
If you do pick the D3 then buy the V8 it has far less problems than the TDV6, also its fun to drive. Also pick atleast the SE spec then you get the Harmon Kardon sound system and a few other choice accesories. Atleast when it brakes down the sound system is fantastic.
100k i would suggest is akin to 35k on a LR product and the toyota's awill do well over 250k with no serious work
and mine seats 7 in comfort (has 8 seat belts in total 7 shoulder), I have been to the Alps twice and Aix en Provance once in the last 12 months fully loaded -- 24mpg too
Forums are always full of issues on all cars no matter what make or model
ive got a rr sport and had a coolant sensor go down in ten months.......2.76 from dealer
look at the scooby forums here!!
full of boost / fuel issues etc etc but subarus are on the whole very reliable
not many people search a forum out on the net and post how amazingly brilliant the car is and how reliable it is
jon

good point, and if I had read these forums I would have thought twice about buying my scooby with all the boost, main bearing, MAF cooling problems etc etc
as it was i did 25k in a year and only had to replace the lower rad pipe, and the Air con rad (both easy jobs that i did myself)
and this was on a 10 year old car, that i bought with 96k on it
brilliant car otherwise

Blew the engine in the classic at scooby shootout, broke the centre diff in the sti. But they did cover the miles... My wifes forester had 146,000mls when I sold it. My classic had done 100K and the STi was at 84K when it went.
I agree forums paint a bleak picture, sometimes though they are correct.
The other problem is the sh!te that people fit to their Subarus!
Bravo, do you need to put adults in the back row? We just put the kids in the back and the grandparents in the middle row. Even in the big 4x4s, old people will have trouble climbing in and out of the back.
