In my opinion, let him look at what ever he likes, if he wants to look at midgetgoldenshowers.com let him be, just set him targets he has to meet every day that warrants the wage he is on, if you make you staff feel locked down then they are less productive anyway, take a leaf out of Google's book for example, they have slides and fireman poles between floors and are some of the most motivated staff you could wish for.

i'm with dedrater on this one i work in a company of only 8 people and we are allowed to go online and do what we want during the day as long as our work is done by the end of it.
as a result all the employees are really happy and motivated and it shows as well as customers always comment on how cheerful everyone is, your company sounds like it's still in the dark ages where no one is allowed to talk to each other and you've always got someone watching you like your a naughty schoolboy!
cut the staff some slack and i bet productivity increases

I'd be with the others if this was the cause with all employees. IE: we trust you not to take the p!ss and do your job. However.....

Let me flip this on its head. Lets say our employee does like looking at midgetgoldenshowersdotcom and another employee sees this and gets deeply offended. Who they going to be upset at or worse? or who would the police be looking at if an offense had been committed? the other employee, no - more like the employer. Any images stored on the machine of an employer could possibly lead to the employer to be prosecuted!

You will also get employees who take the p!ss as they get obsessed by a website such as facebook and at the end of their shift they have not forfilled their workload and the next shift is then unable to do their jobs as the work the previous shift should have done, hasnt been done.

This is indeed a difficult one!

If we did that we would very quickly be out of business

The guy I am talking about at our place where I had to ban facebook, was on it all day long along with MSN, and he is supposed to be on the phone generating revenue for us

He used to make about 4 calls a day instead of 30 calls an hour

Your IT Policy (if signed can be used as evidence in a "court", better than county court)

Should include, moderate internet use. If you have to ban this off the network over one user, then you have a problem, with that user.

Sonic, install>

Download RealVNC 4.1.3 - FileHippo.com

..and make it known that, you can see what they see on there computer monitor,at any time of the day, you can even control there screen and say "DO WORK JOHN" etc

Still dont agree with it though

Dedrater we are using eblaster, and it is one user causing a problem and it is just his PC that has the stuff blocked that he used to spend all day on

He knows full well he isnt allowed certain apps, he knows they are blocked yet he still continues to try and circumvent them

I personally dont agree with it either, hence only being blocked for one person, the IT policies I wrote and issued arose through this one person, everyone signed it without question, apart this one guy who questioned some of the points, so I told him to run it past his own legal advisors and that he didnt have to sign it, but if he didnt his internet would be taken off him 100%

I've used this in the past, surprising what it shows up, you can run it on your pc and browse the history on another pc without them knowing.

IE HistoryView: Freeware Internet Explorer History Viewer

Not tried their other utils out.

Why not use a ISA Server or simply remove his access or restrict it to intranet only. Is it compulsory for him to access the web? If it is, restrict the sites that can be accessed.
If you are using Citrix then by default you can shadow users from Citrix Management console.

In terms of irony i really cant see the point. I own the company and work from 7.20am to 10pm everyday. He is a new employee and all aspects of his peformance will be monitored. It is also my computer, not his.

I have had a real good look at the computer this morning and cant find anything untoward so far, but i will do a search for hidden docs etc tomorrow.
I had this sort of boss until last week, expecting everyone to care about the business as if it was their own

that just doesnt happen!

Do you think he cares you work from dawn till dusk, anyway, you probably get the money for it anyway, where as im guessing he is on less than 20k!

And snooping around on employees computers after thay have gone home creates mistrust, as any it savvy person will know you have been looking round, and wonder why!

The company i used to work for is going under cos no one wants to work there.

The bosses expect robots for 8 hours a day, and give **** all in return ( in my case not even a xmas do), then wonder why people dont like them!

Mush as I love ISA server and do a lot of work with it, ISA and Citrix are far too expensive for a small business to buy, and even if they can afford it, administering it because too expensive!

Personally I'd recommend something like this: e92plus - Vendors - Cyberoam - CR25i

Retail on this for small office can be less than £500 for a fully bundled box!!

It will cover off the firewall, the gateway AV, the spam and of course the web access!

Not getting that just means the MD's think they are above everyone, and that they shouldnt socialize with "the workers".

Like i said, if im paid enought to care, i will, until then it aint my business so who gives a ****?

Its all about give and take, if the employees are treated like school kids, they will behave like them.

My old MD made us all go back on the 2nd of jan (fri), no one wanted to, we all wanted to go back on the 5th (mon), as most normal places of work did, but because HE had work to do meant wee all had to come in

I for one pulled a sickie, and when i got in on monday, i found out almost everyone else had too, thats what happens when you expect people to care about your baby like its there own, it doesnt happen.

I will never wiork for a small company again, its not worth it, too much hassle and commitment, for not enough reward
