It has improved no end, it's quite clear what a bad taste the Infraction system left. May we never see the likes of that again.

The mods have dealt with issues well, as far as I can see. Everyone have generally been given an equal chance and a fair hearing. My absolute congratulations to them, it's a no-win job to do and they deserve our full support (sometimes they get it wrong, but are quick to apologise and put it right)

Traders being able to post in one area about what they do, maybe discounts for SN Members even? Good idea.

Search open to all - sounds good, but it seems to work for me anyway?

It's a far, far better place than it was - you can see old names posting again, which in most cases is good to see.

IB dont have any server problems at all. To give you an idea of their size they serve approximately 630 million pages per month from their combined sites. To my knowledge only my two sites are hosted external to their machines as we are in the UK.

Search open to all - would be very good to see this back as it was ......... not a good move IMO to get rid in the 1st place

SN is looking better every day, well done Stu & the team

The database search is the most processor intensive and crippling thing the forum does and when you have 1000 members using it at once it can take you offline. Simon and Co had no choice but to do it the way they did and I once had to run PF this way too. Thankfully, IB put an end to that for us.

I think your doing a pretty good job Stu it was a bit of a shock when scoobynet was sold off, and alot of people had their doubts (like anyone would at a change of management), though it seems to be working
Good luck and keep up the good work

Tony

Markus, appreciate the honesty. If im sounding like a broken record then it's because it seems as if the issue is being swept under the carpet, for who knows what reason. Let's have a list of the life-banned members and see if it would really kill anyone to have them back. I'm guessing it wouldn't. If we're going to have a fesh start, lets' do it properly rather than having some murky "no-one dares mention it" issue in the closet. That's how i see it anyway.

Feed back for buying and selling will definately help ,at the mo you have to use the search facility to do a bit of detective work which takes time ,its funny what you can sometimes un-earth !

Good luck for 2009

Cool, thanks for the answer.

I agree that we need a way to rate buyers and sellers, but I feel that we need a similar system for traders too. Users on here spend a lot of money on their cars and it would be really good to know that you are not going to get ripped off or have poor quality work done (as is certainly the case with some traders in the uk scooby scene if you do a bit of digging).

Point 7 relates to all SN members regardless of status and it is going to happen very soon. We have already chosen the system to put in place and will do it after the software and server upgrade.

Well done on "bringing back the search to all" idea. All the best to you and the mods with new plans, and hope all pending issues get looked at too.
Good luck with all in 2009, Stu.

Agree 100% with dealing with deliberate troublemakers swiftly as long as it is NOT at the cost of stifling a "Heated Debate". Any forum that only allows members who subscribe to one persons interpretation of what is acceptable sounds abhorrant to me and would be one I would not particularly care to be involved with. I truly hope that isn't the way it is going, Stu. Maybe I am misreading some of the "Mission" / "Agenda" but a couple of statements gave me pause for thought.

Other than that - Seems to be going alright so far.

Search being open is a good idea, but that is the only reason I took the Orange membership, so I will feel a little cheated in a way !

Also, I think the search should be 'open' to registered members only, and as you will know from first hand experience, a lot of other forums will not allow searches made by unregistered users.

Making newbies feel more welcome is also a must, I have seen very new members join and ask a (what to the hardcore SN massive is a silly) question and got shot down in flames and don't really get their answer. So good move

A heated debate in real life means your shouting at each other. So as long as all you do is shout and don't start getting too personal I am not sure how anyone at the other end of a keyboard would ever know?

Me neither so I'll see you back here tomorrow.

Maybe I am misreading some of the "Mission" / "Agenda" but a couple of statements gave me pause for thought.
All written words are pretty much open to individual interpretation so I'm sure your not alone ion your fears so please don't suffer in silence, this topic is unlocked to ensure that doesn't happen, lets hear your fears.
Other than that - Seems to be going alright so far.

I understand this and I considered it for some time before I came to my decision but I'm sure you will agree its for the good of the site. A reference site is pretty useless without a search facility.

Also, I think the search should be 'open' to registered members only
Couldn't agree more.

Will the site be offline while these new features/server moves happen?
If so do we get a date so we can all plan to go out to the pub or register on PF and not have to sit watching telly with the wife because SN is down

What sort of traffic does SN generate daily and will unused usernames get deleted as im sure we dont have 95,358 active members

Well done for your efforts so far, very impressed

It may be a last minute thing but i will endeavour to let you know as soon as i do. I have no intention of deleting unused usernames, they are doing no harm.

Fantastic news Stu, cant really pick holes in anything up there, apart from you forgot to point number 11)

11) Ken Block Videos Anyone found to be posting Ken Block videos without first making a search will be stripped naked, hung drawn and quartered, followed closely by being beaten with their own limbs

Apart from that, i love this place, again!

Point 11 was actually this, but I decided to just quickly finish the job off and have done with it.

Yours has made a great substitute.
