Anyway, we've had a 20c day today here in Sydney. It feels like winter at the moment.
The sunspot cycle is taking so long to start again that we radio hams are wondering if it ever will. I remember only about 16 sunspots being reported for nearly a year now and none at all for a very long time now!

I presume you mean a solar flare which is a large disturbance on the sun which like sunspots send energy our way. The solar flare effect is measured by what is called the X-Ray flux and large flares can cause a breakdown in communications , or worse in extreme cases.

Sunspots are an intense area of magnetic activity on the Sun's surface which send also send a form of energy to us and help to activate the upper layers in the ionosphere which help radio communications. This morning we had 14 sunspots which is the most for a very long time, and radio communications were significantly improved. It is also said that sunspots have an effect on the climate.

But what choice does the Government have? The only way to make people change their behaviour is to affect them financially i'm afraid, since many people, yourself included, refuse to believe that the recent population explosion can have made any impact, unfathomable though that is to people like me. "Pleeeeeze turn your lights off, pleeeeeze buy a low emission car" would do sod all.

Why do we need to make 'people' change their behaviour?

I see our environmentally aware government is set to approve Heathrow's 3rd runway today.

But as long as we all buy energy saving light bulbs filled with mercury vapour, then we will indeed save the planet!

Yes it is Klaatu. Since the 20 sunspots we had eventually last week, they have all disappeared again and radio communications are pretty awful. Thats just a personal problem of course for radio hams, but the worry is that we might be at the start of another "Maunder Minimum" which coincided with a mini ice age in the 18th century and extended into the 19th century. That was when the rivers froze over and were fully load bearing.

I wonder what the authorities will say if that happens. They will still doubtless refer to climate change as they do now and try to fool us that it is all due to CO2 and therefore we must contnue to pay those green taxes, which of course is what they are really concerned about!

And it is still quiet. I saw the 20 or so spots, which quickly disappeared. I see reports of bitter cold in the NH, ice flowers, even the Hudson froze over with plane still in the water.

Doesn't appear to be a lot of warming going on, even downunder, yes we've had a few hot days here on the east coast, but temps are well down on what is usually expected at this time of year. As I said before, the start to December this year was cool, and the start to December in the UK, as we all now know, was the coldest in 30 years.

As Al Gore said, more CO2 = more warming. How would he know?

Look. Can someone please agree whether we are having global warming or cooling please.

The Romans used to grow grapes in our climate because it was so warm and then a couple of hundred years ago the Thames used to freeze over.

Does anyone actually read history these days or do we all prefer the 'News of the World' We are all going to die because we are hot/cold/addicted to heroin/bird flu/bad parents/cocaine/mad cow disease/TB/Measles etc etc etc?

The trouble is that the government and it's cronies and hangers on and pseudo-academics whose grants rely on MMGW hysteria continually push the lie of "global warming" spending taxpayers money on quangos like akt on see ooh two which never give a proper URL so that you are forced to search for it and thus boost the Goo-Gul hit rate and spread their lies even further.

Never forget, CO2 is PLANT FOOD!!!

History doesn't matter - power, control and money do

p.s. Twas a bit nippy today, but nowhere near as cold as when i was a nipper!

Climate is never in one state or another, it constantly changes. The point in contention is the IPCC claim that climate change is brought about by CO2 released in the last 150 years, in particular the last 30 years by human activity, is the driver in the warming observed recently. No other influences, known or otherwise, affect the planet. Anyone who has studied chemistry will know this is an imposibility. Anyone who understands the current concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere knows this cannot happen. For each molecule of CO2 in the atmosphere there are at least 14 others, that's a pretty big gap. CO2 doesn't magically collect and reflect IR over the globe. This is why all of the warming predicted by the IPCC isn't happening.

What I want to know is why the IPCC and Dr J. Hansen keep the raw unadulterated data and the programs that use the data completely secured away from public scrutiny. Why? It's not like the data is top secret like nuclear weapons. We already know The IPCC's "Hockey Stick" has been proved as fiction. What else?

Why does the IPCC use the global average temperature from 1960 - 1991 as "normal" temperature? Anything outside this normal is shown to be as a result of human induced climate change. It's rubbish!

The IPCC are now facing a contradiction in their predictions and current observations. CO2 is at 385ppm right now, albeit the rate is slowing and there is no evidence to support a rise in temperatures in line with CO2 increases. It just is not happening!

Unfortunately, Govn't rely on scare tactics, always have, always will. Do as we say and we'll save you. The IPCC is a political body of Govn't policy writers and analysts. For a "World govn't" to take power, you need to strike fear into the unwashed masses and provide them the solution (Saving polar bears and the children of the future).

Only Govn'ts and corporations will benefit from this lunacy.

Don't worry, there's a big chill on it's way similar to the 1941 - 1975 cooling period.

Is it warm, is it cold? Seems NH residents feel it's cold. And what is Putin up to with "gas cuts"? Tapping the shoulder of "Europe" and saying, "I got the power, gimme money!". Or, showing "Europe", where control really is and how "he" can gain from....you guessed it....carbon trading.

Will we ever learn?

Cool

That's quite a damning article for Hansen.

However, will it make any difference? I doubt it, but the impetus is growing now, the list grows longer. I don't know how much longer the IPCC can peddle this **** out and get away with it.

Earlier the BBC News was having one of its regular "oh no, the Antarctic ice is melting faster than it has ever melted before, we are all doomed, think of the polar bears (oops, i mean penguins)." mini-reports. Some dude was saying how the temperature was rising at an unprecedented rate and that this had been going on for quite some time - several thousands of years - in fact probably since the last ice age!!!!!

What are these morons on - surely you can't easily get class-As on the South pole???
