Typical, like I say loads of classic ones for £30, but I have a bug and no newages ones out there at that price at the mo. Keep on looking I suppose

Tuffnell (iirc) spacers that fit between the heads and the inlet, about 12mm thick, they help to keep charge/inlet temps down.

The insulators were a worth while mod, the temp of the manifold has dropped a lot! When the engine was hot, i couldn't lean on the inlet, now i can no problems, much cooler! Also, i made them myself, cost £15 for the tufnol, so a bargain mod! Made the header tank spacers, and did the throttle coolant bypass mod too.
So in total, i did the papallel rail mod, paint, inlet/header tank insulators, coolant bypass and ditched the plastic breathers, a productive day!
Be warned, the vht paint is sticky stuff, and gets everywhere! Make sure your in a well ventilated area. It also takes 48hours to cure and wrinkle, as on first application, its smooth. The more coats, the more wrinkles!

Also, you'll need longer manifold bolts if fitting insulators

ahhh i see. cool mod. im gonna try and keep this car standerd (lmfao) as i went mad on my last car and yeah it was quick, but i was constantly getting the map tweeked, and fixing silly things. the insulators seem a sensable mod tho.

If you have not already workked out i know naff all about scooby lumps, but ive been told any mod you do to the engine it needs to be mapped or the engines dont like it. is this true?

im happy with my bhp (atm) i just need a reliable car that fits wife n 2 kids! lol

You are correct, you have to be carefull with all engines when it comes to modding, running lean/det/knock is always a risk with these flat fours, as it seems the bottom end is always looking for a reason to let go, as for the insulator mod, it is best to do that alongside a few other mods, like parallel fuel rails, catch can/breathers, FPR, fmic, inlet refurb, and rermap etc, to get the best out of it, and the other mentioned mods are just easier while the inlet is off, i am not sure that just the insulator mod is worthwhile on its own on a pretty unmodded car?.

My opinion was to do all the 'safety' mods first, before i started increasing the power.
This includes better brakes, suspension, uprated fuel pump, modded Api oil pump, fuel reg, inlet/header insulators, decent tyres( first set were awfull!), parallel fuel rail mod, boost/oil pressure guages etc etc!!!
Too many people are hell bent on power, without doing the ground work first.
This gave me a good basis to work on, it's a bit of an addiction with me, i always want more!!

Thanks! To be honest, i don't know! I'd like to think around the 320-330bhp mark. Trouble is the clutch's slipping badly, so in with api for clutch and flywheel soon! Im fitting 550's when they trun up, and getting it mapped for e85, so hoping for 360 ish then. Then it'll be gearbox time! I think i'll stop there, love to have your kind of spec, but also want a house this year! :-)

The trick with the crinkle paint is to cook it in the oven after painting this will help it to crinkle as well as speed the drying process.

That'd be more like it. At £25.00 exchange for a freshly painted one, will not earn any money for Carl and he's not a charity.

Carl Davey quotes £100 quid delivered to supply you with a refurbed inlet.
He also quotes, as an option..
"Due to the similarity of all Impreza manifolds I am happy to offer a refurbishment service on an exchange basis. £25 is refundable upon receipt of an inlet manifold of which you pay the postage for."
