At 90,000 miles I wouldn't just change the crank seal - especially if it isn't leaking - BUT I would take the opportunity to fit a modified oil pump complete.
The rear cover retaining screws have a habit of coming loose and weakening the oil pressure They are rarley loose at first cam belt change but quite often are by the second cam belt change.
For the sake of the cost of an exchange pump from us - do it right first time.

i once bought a belt for my legacy as the old one had chewed itself to bits by rubbing on the small guide over the crank pulley.i paid £75 pound for the belt.
i also changed the belt on my bug not long after the leg' and paid nearly £100 for a better belt! as i loved the bug more.
thing is,upon opening the box i found i had exactly the same belt with goodyear written on it,just like the leg'.go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!lol.

Hi Sam,
The term "Usually Go" is a bit strong realy, there are a few documented cases where the screws at the back of the oil pump have started to come loose which would lead to a bleed of some of the oil pressure out the back of the pump and if this is going to happen (if at all) it is at least 2 belt changes into the engines life, i.e 90,000 miles onwards... My advice would be to check the pump at the second cam belt change and re-tighten the fixing screws if nessasary.. Replacing the oil seal at this point would also be a good idea as it only costs a few quid & they make quite a mess when they leak....It would also require another new cam belt as they don't take kindly to being soaked in oil, and yes you would have to remove the cam belt to gain access to the oil pump.

I personally would find a motor factors that sells Blue Print parts, as the parts they sell are the same as the parts you would get from a Subaru dealer (just in a different box) but without the horrendous mark up in price.... Be careful of buying cheap imitation parts.... The last thing you want is anything associated with the cam belt to fail!!

highflyer, just buy a belt from one of the specialists who post on here. That way you know you are getting the proper Gates/Subaru item.
Even if it costs over £100, it doesn't need to replaced until a further 45k miles, or 36mths, whichever is sooner.
So to put that into persective, you are paying around £3 a month, or 10p per day!, on the belt. A ludicrously paltry amount to front up, for total peace of mind - I'm sure you'll agree?
