Seconded...

Answered a "free carpet cleaning" Ad in my local newsletter... turned out (when he arived) that he was selling Kirby's and was not going ot clean my whole carpet... but a 1m square

I told him he had 60 minutes to convince me.....

at 59 minutes I said no ta (for the millionth time) and that he had 60 seconds to leave or his "vaccuum" would be leaving via the window followed shortly by himself..

He left in 45

Buy a Sebo. Much, much better made than Dyson and cheaper.

Completele exageration: 3 to 6 months is more reasonable.

And in that time how many bags and filters would a normal cleaner go through? For the cost of set of geniuine bags on some cleaners (Meile especially) one could just buy a second set of filters instead! (of course you could buy non-genuine reproduction, which either don't filter properly or burst).

Parts and filter aren't exactly hard to find: Dyson DC04 Silver/Lime Vacuum Spares
4ourhouse - Dyson Spares, Spare Parts and Accessories

The exception is plaster dust, or if the inner cylone bit (labelled "do not remove" ) has been taken out and not refitted properly (depends on the model). Not the end of the world - not as bad as when a paper bag bursts in a bagged cleaner.

As for price, I've seen new DC07s for £105 (can't find where, lost the link - sorry)

No experience with 'loads', but we bought our Dyson DC05 Motorhead to cope with our two long-haired cats, one of whom malted constantly and could fill the vac twice a week We needed to not only do floors, but sofa's, curtains and anywhere else the hair went (every-bloody-where). We also needed a cylinder as our house back then was small and storage was a problem. Apart from the occasional blockage in the tube, the bristle-heads wearing (3 replacements in 10 years) and a dodgy switch it has done what we needed perfectly. The 5yr warranty sorted most of the problems out with no hassle or expense, and we have since paid for just one Dyson Engineer visit for a full service and refurb for £70.

This is brilliant:

SEBO Automatic X4 Extra

We have the non pet version and even that sucks up all our black labs fur on our cream coloured (DOH!) carpets.

Plaster dust is a killer - it can clog a Dyson in 10 mins.... But we had to call off the 'spring clean' last Saturday as the vacuum with 'no loss of suction' wouldn't suck! Maybe I do have a point somewhere? That statement is SO inaccurate and misleading. It loses suction OFTEN and forget using it after a bit of DIY...

I did two rooms before it clogged from the (fresh) plaster dust. Bit longer than 10mins

Nothing a washing of the sponge filter in the sink, wring it out and put it straight back in, and its good to go.

Non of this drying on radiators rubbish: The flow of air soon dries it back out
