Whats the difference between the gt2 kit and the original kit.

The GT2 kit as with the GT Kit is for Classics only and we have only fitted one kit as a guinea pig and these kits are only officially released now.
Hybrid claim better air flow through the new core but the original tube and fin GT core was already very good in terms of both small pressure drop across the core and maintaining low air charge temperatures. I have asked for flow bench results but not received any so far but when I next have access to the flow bench I may be able to test both cores back to back.
From fitting the first kit there are slight changes to the pipework which may make it a slightly snugger fit and the end tanks have been redesigned which could lead to better air distribution/flow. I can also see a different welding technique has been used but other than that I can see very little change.
We have a second fitting a week tomorrow so there may be further observations then.
On the P1 Owners Forum there are quite a lot of photos and comments from the first of these kits that we fitted.

 

Any chance of any library images of the GT2 kit (or your own photos, of course)?

The GT FMIC kit already performs well and by comparison I know it out performs the APS kit as fitted to my STi 6 Wagon. Amongst others, Bob Rawle commented on this some time ago during a mapping session.
Last week we removed another APS FMIC kit from an STi 5 and fitted the GT2 FMIC kit.
That car was mapped last weekend and the mapper had to add more fuel so clearly there is more power from the GT2 over what was produced previously with the APS.

There are very slight differences in the pipework so the GT2 kit seems to fit better but there is nothing so different that it is obvious. The core is different in that the inlet and outliet pipes have been re-engineered and the end tanks have a different shape. Hybrid claim this allows for better air distribution across the core and they also claim a reduced pressure drop. How much of that is advertising hype I do not know because the GT kit already performed well with a small pressure drop and although I have asked on several occasions for details on pressure drop, air flow or thermal test data for the GT2, nothing has been forthcoming. The cost difference between the GT and the GT2 is only £25.

 

Cool (pardon the pun). So it's looking good - as Hybrid aren't likely to develop a new kit that performs worse!

So because the original GT1 works fab, then (hopefully) this will be, at worst, just as good a performer (if not better!)... and with better fitting pipework to boot.

Win/win I'd say.

 

The production facility has been moved and increased so I think that has a part to play in the new design. As the original GT kits already worked well compared to other kits on the market, I think any improvements will be fine tuning, as with the slight changes to the pipework.
When/if I get test data I will put it up but just the redesigned inlet and outlet from the core on its own is a step forward.

Yes, however the kit includes a cold air system so you could use the APS and sell the Hybrid CAK or fit the Hybrid CAK and sell your APS.

 

harvey, those relatively small green cylindrical air filters (foam type?) that come with the Hybrid ICs... what's their CFM and what sort of bhp can they make?

 

To clarify, the Hybrid for the Classic is either the GT or the just released GT2.
The Hybrid for the New Age comes with a cold air kit with a carrier for the MAF sensor and the filter locates in the inner wing but the kit is not supplied with an air filter.
Sorry, no green filters with any kits I supply.
Even with the largest K+N that can be fitted in the inner wing, I think the filter starts to be restrictive around 400 bhp. I would not run an inner wing CAK on any application beyond the 400 bhp bracket simply because space constraints limit the size of filter that can be used. I have numerous examples where going to an engine bay mounted large cone WITH a remap has resulted in a noticable power gain.

 

My bad, harvey... I was thinking of the Hyperflow kits, and got muddled up in my thinking.
